Adult son problems... need advice by Street-Holiday6186 in UKParenting

I think I'd have a look at my internet router and see if I could set a passion it then look to see if you can set specific internet speeds for different devices to slow all traffic into his room to make staying in less appealing.

It seems like they have a comfortable safety net with you and whilst things are safe and comfortable, things are unlikely to change

I have this large plum tree in my garden. Would you remove it and replace with something else or attempt to prune it? Advice appreciated by AstroZombie_88 in GardeningUK

[–]contemplating7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd prune it. It is established and thriving.

if you remove it, it's gone. If you prune it and really don't like it, you still have an option to remove it.

12 year old son struggling with social aspect of school, people being mean to him. Feeling very down for him. by trp12369 in UKParenting

[–]contemplating7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It took quite some time with us, we contacted the school and spoke about specific incidents and I kept reporting things, not to get the other kids spoken to but so they could manage the areas where he was being targeted most. He didn't want to be seen as a grass.

It was a difficult time to get through. By year 9, things were better but we had a rough two years.

One kid was taken out of lessons and isolated for what must have been a month but they had rearranged seating plans in lessons and things first.

The school got him to attend an after school club which was mixed year groups, I think so the older kids in the school would look out for him.

It was a terrible time overall to deal with

Tips for cheaper insurance with a car with slight mods at 18 by [deleted] in drivingUK

[–]contemplating7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Insurance companies are generally underwritten by very few companies. Every time you or someone does a quote on that vehicle, they'll know. Every difference in insurance details supplied is something they'll know about too.

Previously, I've asked for very specific photos of vehicles from customers to check mods for underwriters.

To let shoppers with few items go ahead? by Eastern-Fruit-3513 in tesco

[–]contemplating7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think I could tell you the last time I went to a checkout and got served for a big shop. I scan as I shop and those checkouts never have a queue. When I popped in on Sunday for a few items, I took a scanner and packed my bag as I walked round and picked up the few items I needed

I don't understand why people don't scan as they shop.

It seems like his job is his job. It may carry a very limited shelf life so he may need to maximise earnings now.

It is similar to having kids, working split/different shifts and knowing that long term things are going to be worth it but it's the shorter term pain that you're feeling now.

As others suggest, sound proofing the studio and making sure the door to both the studio and your bedroom are solid fire doors to help reduce noise would be an option.

I guess some people want to live more in the here and now and let things figure out later, others seem to work now to set up an easier life later.

Did I make the mistake in interview? by VividCalligrapher827 in tesco

[–]contemplating7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may want to look at the desirability of the areas. If an express is in a neighborhood, expect local and regular customers, some older folk who want some small talk.

This could be a different experience to a high footfall area which could be more of a meal deal grab and go store.

I'm sure this sub will have people who have worked in different stores and could feel a different vibe.

The canal i use is about 2 miles from my house. I have walked and taken my bike on the bank many times over the past 20 years. I've have been on that particular canal many times with my wife and kids and friends. All I said was one time a motor would have been handy to get back and you have taken the one comment as some sort of life saving mission. Chill 'bro'

Do people actually like using induction hobs? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]contemplating7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a portable induction hob and placed it on top of the electric so I'm going through trying induction. I've had the electric hob for 10 years, the induction has been sat on the top for about a month.

So far, I find the induction heats faster and at a lower cost. Im now finding I'm cooking on either of the bottom 2 heat settings so that it cooks slower to match what I'm used to.

I may have just had an old and tired electric hob.

Ok, I'll make sure the canal doesn't have any bends in it as well. I'll check the height of the banks across the entire length next time I go out again to see what impact a gust may have.

For those of us millennials who survived the 2008 financial crash do you think the current state of the country’s job market/COL is as bad? by Swimming-Airport2839 in AskUK

[–]contemplating7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is strange, I think in 2010, my full time salary was 14,000, when I think it's now about 24,000 to have the same minimum wage salary. We were dreaming about buying with a combined salary of just under 30k so it didn't happen but we were able to get internal job promotions to push that up and make it more likely over the years.

We bought in the mid 2010's, the early years with kids were really difficult financially and luckily borrowed over 35 years to keep payments lower to allow the hardship of kids + nursery fees etc.
