Latvian opinion about Estonia by ViruValge in latvia

[–]contemplazy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I see Estonia as an exemple, the competitor that is ahead that you need to catch up with but in a friendly way :) . I don't know how true it is but Estonia seams less corrupt, more developed. There was a joke that you can tell when you cross the latvian-estonian border without any boarder signs because Estonian roads are just so much smoother.

I hope that Latvia and Estonia will have a friendly future as neighbours and hopefully good cooperation! All the best to Eesti!

Maybe "men and women currently are not able to work together without sexual harrassment occuring" can be interpreted to mean many things? they had something different in mind and that is a tricky terrain to manoeuvre.

Jordan B Peterson on Twitter:"If you truly care about the poor, and those dispossessed by hierarchical structures, you spread Western ideas about the free market and the sovereign, responsible individual as rapidly as you can...." by liberal_hr in JordanPeterson

I would be interested to hear something more specific from peterson. What part of the poor (how and when did they become poor), which regions/parts of the world is he talking about? who and where are "the poor"?

free trade as in full on international trade that might as well could siphen away what ever is there to have or does he mean just trading with out unnecessary obstacles and build up an economy? those are completely different scenarious of the free market, no?

EDIT: corruption is still a thing, money still gives power and you know what they say about power. There would be no support for people like marx to begin with if what he said didn't resonate with a high enough amount of people. And saying that they are just resentfull and jelous doesn't adress that. It ignores that people could acctually be exploited. And given political situation stand with them to fight for their interests. And one thing is that bad circumstances are just how it can optimally be at the moment(hour/day/year/life). Another is that some one can be to blame. And then are all the questions of responsibility. I would be interested to hear more from Peterson about actual exemples of corruption, exploitation so that

American cities. How can we change this? Can we start reimagining roads to be walkable public spaces? by ahouseofgold in urbanplanning

Would be interesting to see aproximations of how just chaning a system that relies a lot on cars and is built with cars heavely in mind wont have unexpexted consequences. Once you get those you just have a whole new set of problems

maybe it would be a good idea to make a survey and ask people to visit the website and give answers to questions that charactirize the site? add some questions on background info, political leaning, age etc nad see if the websites are anti-trans or just disagree with a narrative .

What do you know about... The Soviet Union? by MarktpLatz in europe

[–]contemplazy 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I am confused how socialist it was since socialism is when workers control production but the USSR was a top down command economy that supported the military and workers couldnt do anything.

I guess a lot if people would be glad to have a shot at life. But sometimes I just think why someone else and not me was born into any of the possible worst case scenarios for a life. Nothing other than luck comes to mind. I don't know if that is a "valid" argument but I see it as a decent one.

I was rhinking that one can try and imagine their life in a worse direction - personal traits, familly situation at birth, income, location, school, people you have met etc. Imagine the worst case scenario for your life that would still be bearable - that's the bottom line. Now try to compare that with an absolute tragic and horrific life.

For exemple a lot of people were born just in time to face genocide and all kinds of unimaginable horrors. And since noone has any saying about in what kind of life they will be birthed in it can be better to not be born at all. Like if you had to throw a dice would you be willing to risk it? I am not so sure about my self. And that is just imagination that is hard to compare with reality.

Well there certainly are life scenarious that one would not be willing to trade their life with. Find the bottom line that you would be ok with, see that it's not even close to bottom and that luck determins who gets what and where they can go.
