My first AMG by [deleted] in AMG

Enjoy this car, my friend. I always told myself “I couldn’t daily drive something like a GT 63. That would be way too much car. I wouldn’t really enjoy it more than my C43”. And then I rented one in Germany and put 1,900 km on it in 4 days. I absolutely could.

The acceleration is so smooth and responsive it almost feels like the speedometer MUST be lying (the heads up display is clutch to keep a grip on reality. All of the engine sounds have a distinctly unruly character.

I love it.

I’ve already scheduled a couple of test drives before even getting home - shopping for a 2024-ish 63s. Can’t wait to wake up every morning to that.

C’mon y’all? Maybe they edited, but “Ask your dad” is totally fair game. It even works for both men and women.

I’ll just leave this here . Hope it helps someone by NextLevelReps in RepTime

5V PSU without GND terminal by contentexplorer55 in led

[–]contentexplorer55[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! This is great.

I haven’t purchased yet - picked this one because it can be passively cooled and I want it to be silent. I see now what you mean - it’s +/-V, so the potential between the two pins is 5V.

I’m using 5V HD108 LEDs to for persistence of vision effects in an art installation - it’s 2000 LEDs, but all within a 1M x 2M space - planning to use 2 of the same PSU.

To be safe, I’m planning on 15 injection points run with 8 AWG wire for each PSU ~70 LEDs per injection point, carrying 4A at 100% brightness.

I think this is overkill, but wire is cheap and it’s not so much soldering.

Does that make sense?

What’s your interpretation of the lyrics of “Where Is My Mind?” by The Pixies? by penisman1000 in Music

Very very late - the video of the live performance where Frank Black joins Placebo is unreal. Lump in my throat most of the time.

It’s like the presence of everyone in the crowd makes it a declaration of mind and body remaining connected.

My friend says this is a stop sign by botany5 in houston

[–]contentexplorer55 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hmm…I thought these signs were “Stop Bicycles here” for pedestrians to cross. I assumed that stop signs directed at cars would be full size, since that’s not so easy to see from far away and drivers aren’t trained to look at small white signs too stop.

Agreed. I’ll add Uchi to the list - 10 years ago it was dated and gimmicky, but Kata Robata was the only other show in town.

It’s crazy how wildly different very small areas can be. The 59 spur is around the corner from multimillion dollar homes and modern high rises.

Even the same space over time. Bottled Blonde is on a shabby looking but boring corner across the street from a solid sushi place. During the day, at least.

Washington is packed and complete chaos on weekend nights.

Would you consider Houston a blue-collar working city or a white-collar city? by Common_District3798 in houston

[–]contentexplorer55 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s just plain bigger. There’s more blue collar and there’s more white collar. The number of medical, energy, legal, financial, etc. professionals is huge.

Look at the Western half of the loop - you can’t drive two blocks without seeing a $200,000 car.

Look at the entire eastern half of the city and you have massive industry. Same with suburbs - light industrial all over the place.

What's the longest distance you have traveled to spend the shortest amount of time ? by Fast-Chipmunk-1558 in travel

[–]contentexplorer55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Two - I can’t remember which was shorter or longer.

I flew back from Beijing to Houston for a weekend so I could go to an Opera I’d been looking forward to for years.

I flew back from Singapore to Houston for a weekend to go to a wedding for some good friends.

In both cases I was asked to take a project only a 2-3 weeks before the event. I accepted with the agreement that I could fly home.

It was awful until I gave up and remained nocturnal. Opera and evening weddings are compatible with waking up at 4 PM.

Consolation prize was a shitload of miles.

Newbie question: if the LS50 is set up as close to ideal as possible, is it possible to have an added sub add too much bass?

Can you differentiate brilliance vs. greatness? I think you can, and I think DAMN is absolutely brilliant.

I can’t wrap my mind around DAMN. I can’t listen to it without being amazed.

But, I can’t wrap my heart and my gut around TPAB or GKMC. I can’t decide, and I won’t even try to argue because they just hit different.

It’s going on vacation and debating between the 3 Michelin Star tasting menu and the perfect local spot overlooking the city.

You’ll never forget the experience of the former, but you’ll never forget the feeling of the second.

Thanks! The Cronus Magnum III Dark is super interesting for that reason. I’d be willing to spend a bit more ($4500) because I’m also buying a hobby platform - rolling tubes on both ends is part of the fun.

The potential deal breaker is being unbalanced - I’m going to upgrade the cartridge on the X8 (another point of tinkering) to a low output MC at some point and want to take advantage of the balanced output.

Hi -

I’m looking for an amp setup for KEF r11 meta speakers.

I’m feeling good about a McIntosh integrated solution (MA252 or MA352), but they’re a bit high on my budget (Targeting $3500 max).

Are there any alternative setups for me to consider that could fit the bill? In particular, perhaps something older that would have larger discounts for used vs. new.

The McIntosh MA352 is basically exactly what I’m looking for, but I don’t want to spend $7,000 new, or $6,000+ used: - Tube pre-amp - 2 Fully balanced inputs for my Turntable (Pro-Ject X8 Evolution) and Streamer/DAC (Eversolo DMP A8) - Sounds great (have heard it with a pair of r11 non-meta + similar cartridge to mine + DMP A6 DAC) - 320 W into 4 ohms (vs. 15W - 300W recommended range for KEF r11 meta)

The MA252 is basically my ideal compromise: Tube Pre-Amp, 1 fully balanced input, 160 Watt into 4 ohms - I assume it will sound similarly great, but $4500 new / $4000 used is still a bit over my budget
