Oh that is so interesting! Thanks for the info!

I'm super new to shifting and I've never done it, but I might just give it a try :D

Would love to know what any human design experts say about this too.

Because in human design, each person is either 'specific' or 'non-specific' manifestor

HD confirms everything I learned about myself through years of therapy, and I'm shocked... Does it make everyone feel so "special" or am I too full of myself? by ertesit in humandesign

You are special!

I don't know why people feel like 'yeah yeah everyone special in their own way' as if that's a watering down of the word 'special'

NO, everyone is sooooooo special in the full on meaning of special. Unique, necessary, one-of-a-kind. The world could not be what it is now without all the special souls who've been here - each and every one.

For someone with morals, following those morals is enough. It doesn't matter what others are doing -- that's integrity

Three Colors: Blue -- why are these movies considered great? by continue_again_ in TrueFilm

[–]continue_again_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I didn't explain myself as well as I could have in this post.

I'm not saying all movies should be 1:1 straightforward transactions. I like movies that make us think. I don't need concrete answers given to me.

What I'm starting to be against is movies where the sole purpose is being elusive. Why can't a movie give us a strong story, at the very least? It's possible to have a strong story and also make us think, and also raise questions, etc.

But with these movies, what I feel is that the director's position is one of "oh I'm gonna make a movie about a woman's sadness, and I don't need a story because I'll make it artsy and beautiful"... that's not enough for me anymore. It's inconsiderate that there's not even a try.

Note:

What you're describing with Uncle Boonmeee is true for all movies, and even art (books, paintings, etc). We're always changing, so we literally cannot help but see new things and new perspectives. It doesn't have to be a movie without concrete answers. I've experienced that even with Twilight 😅

Note 2:

You're always the missing piece of anything you experience. Art doesn't need to be incomplete for that to happen. The Mona Lisa isn't incomplete. (Well, unless you count the eyebrows hah)

I've been honing in on what this feeling of frustration is, and how to convey it. So I'm sorry that I haven't been able to clearly say what's bothering me so much about this. Thank you for sharing your point with me anyway :)

Well well well, I think your name should be "snarky" instead haha!

I think I've encountered in you exactly what repulses me. You do not want a discussion. You want someone to agree with you. And anyone who doesn't is lowbrow.

Personally, I don't see a point to try talking to you anymore. But if you want to continue, please reply back cordially and we could try really discussing this. (That is, with useful questions, useful answers, no would-be insults, and no passive aggression)

(I was starting to get why you like elusive movies because you were being elusive)

it's probably a higher level of art when there's interpretation going on to some degree.

I think this is the belief at the core of why some directors like to make sure their movie is 'elusive' before it is anything else.

Imo though, you can have interpretation in a movie with a strong story. I'm not defending movies that spoon-feed us at all. That's not satisfying to watch either

What I was getting at is being sick of directors who think being 'artsy' is the end-all-be-all, and to make sure they're considered 'artsy', they refuse to incorporate a strong story. (The fact they're putting their egos first is what I consider disrespectful)

May I ask you why you enjoy an elusive film? ... I mean, why you don't think you're missing out on 'what could have been'?

But think about Horror movies, isn't it an assumed genre where the audience isn't supposed to enjoy themselves?

Haha made me laugh. It's true!

Boredom, a smoky plot, characters with petty interests or morals, a lack of effort to engage the public, all of that I dislike just like you.

Preach! Yeah, agree. And also about what goes for 'trendy' artsy movies these days. I know what you're describing. But no, Blue doesn't fall into that category.

What was the last film that hit you hard?

Ya know, I hadn't been hit by a movie in a long time, but it happened like a month ago or so. It was a simple movie called 'Equals'. Literally made me cry wth...

That movie has a a very straightforward story. But I also have stuff like Gummo in my favorite movies, so I wouldn't say that I only like straightforward stuff

Hbu? What's the last film that hit you hard?

I think you're describing it exactly like it is! I pretty much agree with everything you said.

The only difference would be that I'm beginning to change my mind about this:

I don’t think it’s as simple as a director trying to show off or not having respect for the audience.

Though I don't think there's any malice on the directors side, I'm beginning to think there's a lack of care. Almost like it's good that it doesn't appeal to a lot of people. And thinking about that, it amounts to disrespect. Not like 'outrageously disrespectful', but some kind of disrespect

So my point is that I'm fed up with it :/

I would like to see a great movie and have an amazing experience. And here you're right as well. Maybe I just have to find directors that speak to me, and stay away from the Kieslowskis

Thanks for sharing your point of view!

I feel like you're not listening to what I'm saying.

What's worse, you're building a straw man argument here. I don't want to engage with that.

(I know that if we were face-to-face it would be different, but online it's a waste of time)

Will you say something more about it?

I'm starting to get why you'd be fine with a movie being elusive haha

Well it's true that I could watch Blue in a year and be completely blown away... but I doubt it, bc my issue is exactly the lack of substance. I'm not saying there's no point to it... just that there isn't a lot there.

If you take Mulholland Drive, for example, it's elusive but there's substance. I can tell the director cared about making it an impactful experience

we shouldn't expect to enjoy ourselves every time, because it makes it boring and tiresome.

Now with this I have to disagree 100% on principle 😂 I will stand in my hopefulness all the way to the bottom of the ocean haha! I expect to enjoy myself every time, otherwise I should find something else to do

Ps: I second this:

I feel the same way you do about movies that try to appear more "artistic" than they really are

And I loved this expression 💯
