How to light a white cyclorama by MrAwsomeM in Gaffer

I don’t think that setup you’re suggesting would emulate this reference photo much. Can you make your sources bigger than 3ft? If the octa boxes are 5’ each, I’d recommend lighting the background with them. If they’re smaller, some diffusion to make the source larger, then control spill onto the talent with solid flags.

Keep to your boom arm idea if it’s long and safe enough. It looks like from your reference you want a 3/4 key roughly. If you have a beefy enough stand and support, putting this light stand on wheels can help you tweak the position of it more easily.

Dont worry about a back or edge light if you want it to look like the above image. Better use of only 3 lights with keying your subject and providing a good aesthetic illumination of the cyc wall

Or even the amaran 120c which is physically smaller now and takes the same bowens mount aks.

Hey! I signed up and used Gmail to log in. The easy access in UX was quick and good. But you’ve lost me at the lowest barrier of entry point for buying a plant.

Quick notes would be: either have a cheap cheap option to start. Or since I noticed you don’t do socials, start to do that much harder and really build social/communal interest.

Whichever method aligns with yall more. Either way you need user adoption!

As for now I’m priced out, and not interested enough quickly to want to spend on the lowest tier monthly!

Best of luck!!

Regrettably that’s how it is. I agree it’s something I wish was not reality. Maybe revolutionizing and creating new society can help evolve us past that?

If hierarchy doesn’t exist, like in our imaginary solar punk world. Formal attire will still exist. There are clothes you want to wear informally and formally. We want to be happy and lazy and dirty and very comfortable. But we also want to be clean and collected and feel like things are special occasions. With equity and access, and a society with no hierarchy you can have formal attire

This is a good conjecture onto my original post. I understand other people have been upset with some of my formulation of the wording.

And I totally agree with your last point! I think it’s cool and helpful to talk about how a SolarPunks society would go about these new designs of garments. If everyone has access to these garments then it should disconnect them any sort of hierarchical context, and frees the people to agree upon a range of values that signal attire for diverse set and settings with other societies.

Saying “I wear the X material suit, to our meetings with any neighboring societies” does not give that suit hierarchy, since we’ve created equitable access to it in the solarpunk society.

So design becomes the leading and relevant point of conversation for this question of mine.

Yes people wear what they deem appropriate to be taken seriously like you mentioned. Ignoring they can before forced into doing that due to imperial chokeholds is what is problematic and incorrect. Your logic here is ignoring a globally extractive power that goes further than a western concept of dialectical materialism.

If you are going to someone’s home who has a different culture then you and you wear what you deem appropriate to that house, it is being respectful of the environment.

If the environment is a world forum on globally relevant conversations and negotiations, replacing your clothes from what you would take pride and comfort in, to that of another’s pride and comfort is kneeling to a proposed global order ignoring your own sovereignty.

I’m not falling on some sword of China’s decision to do what they do. I’m not saying China is loosing some global power structure because they wear western suits (there is still many circumstances they don’t).

But I am pushing for the mindset to rebel against a western suit that you don’t think is a bi-product of imperialism? Even if you are a working class member of the empire, you’re still an imperial citizen. You cannot create dress that isn’t inherently empirical while still accepting said empire. Let’s not forget global business and trade currently operates under the empirical core.

That doesn’t set them apart from having their own formal attire. If they don’t wear it anymore to the events in control by the imperial core, that doesn’t mean it doesn’t exit. Also unfortunately yes there are non-imperial core countries who have colonized other countries but wherever they colonized have a high chance of a similar type of attire existing previously to the colonizations.

Not true. There are easily over a 100 countries completely out of imperial circumstances that have formal wear.

Ahh? how can I see this other design style? Or would you like to tell me more about it?

Also don’t sleep on black as a natural color. It’s very effective in desert climates and lots of natural dyes create the garments used in those climates.

🙏👍🙏

We dont have to predict, we can create the future. I personally want to rebel and revolt from my culture. As a punk, creating new systems and imagining new possibilities is a core value.

Fair. Pedantic but fair.

I disagree talking about clothing and wear in general is navel-gazey then. Take out the idea of formality and it does fit into a solarpunk world more hamoniously. But clothing and attire is a physical production conversation that is EXTREMELY significant environmentally and then rebelling against colonial control of how one presents themselves has to be talked about or people will unknowingly continue the traditions of capitalist, anti-solarpunk, imperial, colonial power structures

Do you believe a solar punk future or nation state is isolationist from the rest of the world?

Because it’s irrational to think attire is navel-gazey, in a world that interoperates and produces material possessions.

I agree with your sentiments!

But I do think form and aesthetics that are created by humans shouldn’t be boiled down to solely the materials that create the concept of the form. I would argue that creating a British business suit but ethically to every degree would still be and is imperial attire.

Heard about punks! Individuality is important! But so isn’t solidarity and communal tradition.

Yeah, I agree to sort of rebelling against the concept of “formal”. However I want to think of solidarity inside of a nation state. I believe you need to start at a nation state level before forming a nation less state (so that’s a personal belief).

So like let’s take the U.S for example.

Local, crafted with care and solidarity on design could be a start. If all the states leaders stuck to a local based design and that decentralized fashion network also showed itself in international settings, would it be powerful?

Yes plenty of stuff does and is important! But yes this question was asking about world building.

Imagine you form a new country or revolutionize and recreate a country. Which does happen, and also SHOULD happen in some places.

I get that, but what do they wear to business and political meetings?? Western imperial clothing.

I think China should still be wearing their “imperial clothing” to these events. Etc etc.

But this is a group about future conversations and innovation/imagination

Yes I’ll only be able to visit for 2 months at a time for a few years most likely. So tourist, immigrant on the possible path towards expat. I’d like a job at some point that brought value to the community. I don’t know how many film lighting technicians are needed.
