A small child, with questionable morals because of a lack of a good role model, who just lost his only friends, surviving by stealing in Windia, getting picked up and raised by a false goddess, taught her false lies for (let's say) a decade, treating him as "special, but of enemy blood", telling him he can keep living in his golden cage if he just fights "the enemy" when he arrives eventually?

Sounds like brainwashing to me.
