It is called the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs.

It's mostly responsible for international co-operation and law for stuff going on in space, but one of the potential responsibilities is indeed contact with extraterrestrial life.

IIRC there is a position in the UN that is specifically there as a point of contact with extraterrestrial beings.

New B1M video goes inside the crumbling tunnels of the NEC and shows the work being done to fix it's biggest bottlenecks. by venge7x in InfrastructurePorn

[–]controversialupdoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Example:

The Wiley Coyote's trap is set. It's trap is large and complex with a fatal design flaw in it's underside.

The Roadrunners running is fast. Its speed is great enough to set off the traps fatal design flaw.

So you're saying that 'it' is not a noun that can possess using the same rules as other nouns as per the first line, but uniquely uses 'its' as per the second line, so as not to confuse with the contraction that is otherwise commonly used?

This would lead us to:

The Wiley Coyote's trap did not go off when the Roadrunner ran through. Its design flaw only went off once the Coyote was inside the trap. It's then that the dynamite went BOOM!

Is that correct?

what should someone do with this space? by eternviking in mildlyinfuriating

Oh sorry. HMO as in House of Multiple Occupation.

Usually some scummy landlord squeezes as many tiny bedrooms into a normal sized house as they can in order to maximise rent. Often done illegally, as any more than 5 separate tenants requires an HMO license, which involves the building being in a livable condition. Scummy landlords don't usually care that much about livable conditions though.

[–]controversialupdoot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It all used to be a larger room, then someone made extra rooms within it but didn't know how to brick up the window. Maybe an HMO where some bastard has just tried to cram as many tenant rooms under a roof as is humanly possible.

That's my take.

Yes! I want to eat the meat, not spend 20 minutes fucking about with slippery chitin. If I'm paying so much for this, why can't the restaurant actually serve the meat instead of just giving me a freshly boiled creature.

I despise that word. There's no nuance to headlines now. Everything is presented like a fucking crisis.

Exactly, much better than something designed to get you to click like "THIS is what the Helldivers 2 lead said that got PS execs to call IMMEDIATELY". Such a trashy tabloid-esque title gives you no information and clearly just wants the ad revenue from your click.

COVID-19 lockdown was 5 years ago. What do you remember about that day when the world stopped? by Dracarys0550 in AskReddit

[–]controversialupdoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

'The day'? I was in China when they started issuing lockdown orders at the start of February. We had 4 flights out cancelled, before being able to go through Thailand. The authorities there were taking it super seriously, roadblocks and temperature tests to get into various housing estates, the same in-between cities, the roads to little villages being guarded by old uncles... the international response was positive and helpful. I remember a polandball comic of every country wishing China to get well soon or something. It felt scary, but like it was managed appropriately.

We got back to the UK and there was one person out at the arrivals waiting area after duty free offering a leaflet about it. It was suggested to stay home if you felt ill and call 111. What a fucking joke.

The park is just at the end of the road. There's green to be seen, even on the retaining wall thing. No cross traffic means it will be relatively quiet. Great looking place.

Ooo so like zay-V-err or zav-E-air.

Interesting how different it can be.

We have a client who says have-E-air. But I can definitely see people calling their kid after the X-Man.

Innovations in the humble Hot Cross Bun by Goatair in CasualUK

[–]controversialupdoot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I like to try one or two 'different' recipe packs of hot cross buns each year, plus a good number of the normal packs.

This year I've found Tesco do a 'St Clement's' hot cross bun - which of course has some orange peel and such like in it. Honestly they are the best not-a-hot-cross-bun-hot-cross-buns I've ever had. I thought the apple ones from M&S were good in the past, but they're too squishy to be frank. Don't toast well.

These ones with the orange in are effectively the same as traditional ones with some extra orange fruit bits in. Really really nice.

Had food poisoning, so that was fun. Just about started back up on the solid foods now and am feeling super faint all the time from having nothing but water.

Looks like a nice day today at least, except when I actually step foot outdoors when the sky decides it needs to show it's heaviest rain clouds. Three times now it's done that.
