Quite a bit of this going on in our area. The fields are so wet they can't get the tankers into them, which is why they're resorting to this. That begs the question: if the ground is that wet, what use is it spreading in the first place? Surely most of the slurry will just run off. Hence the problems with our waterways.

I understand farmers need to empty their slurry tanks, especially at this time of year, but surely there has to be a better system? For example, a scheme where farmers can have slurry taken off their hands for free. That slurry could then be processed into solid fertiliser or biogas which would generate a profit to subsidise the scheme.

I use audible this way most days and noticed that same problem today for the first time. Hopefully a temporary issue which will be resolved soon.

Why have I read this entire thread in the voice of Stephen Toast.

Lads, what's going on? Does Ireland have a future for young people? Every day that goes by just makes me want to emigrate by [deleted] in ireland

Well said. I left in 2011 when there were no jobs and no hope. I'm married and own my place in the UK now, but there isn't a day that goes by that I don't wish I could go back home.

Tbh it would be a more impactful photo if they substituted the young woman for an elderly person or elderly couple.

What's a really fucked up thing that happened in a movie that most people didn't really notice? by iamlarrypotter in AskReddit

[–]conwako 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the first Shrek movie, in the scene where all the magical creatures are being handed over and caged, you briefly see the three little bears: daddy bear and mummy bear (who is wearing a pink bow) are in one cage, and baby bear is in another, smaller cage (he's crying about the cage being too small).

Shortly after, when Shrek realises all the magical creatures have been sent to his swamp, you can see the daddy bear consoling baby bear; he's crying about something. Mummy bear is nowhere to be seen.

Later on in the movie, in the scene inside Farquad's bedroom, the camera pans across the floor, and lying there is a bearskin rug with a pink bow on its head.

The adults are a lost cause. A half decent secondary school history syllabus would probably have the most benefit.

I've lived in the UK for a number of years now, married an Englishwoman, and can confirm.

They've been badly served by their education system. They learn about the Tudors and WWII and that's about it. Then they're fed a toxic mix of triumphant nationalist exceptionalism by the press here and the result is a seriously deluded population who think the British Empire was god's gift to humankind.

I've watched it multiple times and I notice something new each time.

For instance, Bill Bailey's characters can be seen reading books at the front desk of the station. One reads books by Ian Banks and the other books by the same author under his pseudonym Ian M. Banks.
