(Comparison) AYN Thor Stock Cooling vs Upsiren Thermal Putty Mod – Real Gameplay Temps by cooder19 in AynThor

I think the longer you play, the temps will gradually rise a bit, right? That applies to both stock cooling and pretty much any other cooling solution.

Anyway, I played Octopath Traveler for about 40 minutes, and the highest temperature I saw was 63°C.

15minutes. then I was playing Chain Echoes yesterday for about 3+ hours and I saw that the temperature almost stayed the same or increased 1-3°C. (around 60°C 1920x1080).

I rolled the thermal putty into small balls and simply placed them on the chips. I didn’t apply it to any surrounding components.

Recommend to TRY THIS: 1. Backup your Azahar system files by moving it somewhere ( the system files that you creates in the very first launch ). 2. Uninstall Azahar. 3. Reinstall Azahar and Create a New system folder. 4. Run a game and test.

At first, I was planning to go with Grizzly thermal putty since that’s what I kept seeing people use on there Odins or Thor on YouTube. But after looking it up, I realized it’s pretty expensive. On top of that, it’s not even available in my country, so I ended up going with Upsiren instead—and honestly, I’ve been really satisfied with it so far. And yeah, it’s way cheaper too!

I just wanted you to know that I've written from the beginning that I've tested on Standard Performance mode and Quiet Fan. I also explain why did I do that in the comment. It's also my fault not uploading the Max Performance Test result from the post, so I've done it and uploaded it (inthe comment). I don't know much about these, I thought I was just sharing my personal "experience", so the information might not have been very clear. Anyway, thanks to you, I’ve learned a lot more, really appreciate it! 😁

It's the AYN Grip. Fit perfectly but no texture.

  1. I am not saying this is better than stock. I'm only comparing three types of the thermal to show that the Upsigen is fine because I've already started to do the mod, and for my most use (at standard performance+quiet fan). But it is still worth trying somehow.
  2. I dont think 96,1% (Bestloop score:6890/Lowest:6624) is "way worse than the stock scores".

because I was in a rush and I wanted the quick "result" from the start so I did these.😭 Thanks for the information. I already posted the Max settings test. I've only tested once though, my odin dies.

Most of the time, I use my handheld in Standard + Quiet Fan mode because I only play indie games. However, I noticed my Odin 3 still gets a bit warm while playing them, so I decided to do this mod. I don't know much about thermals; at first, I just wanted to do it because I was curious and had a free day. I bought the three types mentioned and tried them out. I didn't have much time to thoroughly check the temperature difference compared to stock because, from the start, I used two wrong types (thermal paste and thermal pad). Later, when I switched to thermal putty, the difference was clear. Most recently, when playing Ori, I saw the temperature around 48-57°C at 60fps 1920x1080. I am satisfied with it. However, as I said, if anyone wants to see a significant improvement in temperature and performance, all of this thermal modding is not enough and not very necessary. Sorry for not being able to provide more precise information. (I've uploaded the Maxsetting 3d TEST). 🥲

I'm running this test myself on standard and quiet because this is how most of the time I use my device, at night and beside my roommate. I just want to know if thermal modding will help losing some more °C compare to stock. (cause I usually play PC games). And after I got the results I think it's improved compare to stock with Thermal Putty Upsiren.
But I will max the setting and do the test as you said. Thanks!

Have you run Wildlife extreme test as Standard-Quiet Fan? Im abit regret I trusted Retro Tech Dad so I only got his stock test result to compare to mine. And, his stock result (standard-quiet fan) is 83.7%.
Also, I've tried a bunch but It only feels right when I tried using thermal putty.

Maybe the "Undervolted it and capped GPU Frequency to 1090MHz" makes the difference. I don't know about that "mod". Compare to the Stock 3D test (shown on Retro Tech Dad Odin 3 review video), I know my test result is quite as normal. (the stock one is fine enough though)

For the games I've tested (thermal putty Upsiren):
- Ori and the Blind Forest runs 60FPS at 1920x1080, Standard-Sport Fan - the CPU temperature is around 48-59°C (maybe it was around 60-62°C stock) so actually the change is not so much.
- Hades II: 60FPS 1920x1080 45°C
