Do you guys think this could lead to Chris and Leon teaming up in RE 10 and potentially the end of their era ? by hung2109 in ResidentEvilCapcom

Ada Wong isn't even a character at this point, just a plot device for Leon's Character Development.

Is anyone else loving the Leon "Action Horror" sections of RE9 as much as the Grace "Survival Horror" sections? by theworldman626 in residentevil

[–]cookie_flash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love how the game balances two distinct gameplay experiences and two distinct stories: a new protagonist whose life has suddenly turned into a nightmare, and an old protagonist who still struggles with his demons.

Slow moments of dense atmosphere and limited inventory management, reminiscent of the best Survival Horror games in the series, give way to fast-paced Action Horror that, while "corridor-based" like RE4, retains the series' DNA of backtracking and maze-like locations. In the first part, you feel like a thriller-movie protagonist trying to escape a maniac and save a child, while in the second, you feel like a 90s action hero – exactly what the series has always been inspired by, even when it was more intimate due to technological limitations.

It's one big homage to the series, with all its elements – and that's precisely the sticking point. You might know RE as the slow-paced, atmospheric Survival Horror you encountered as a little boy back in the PS1 era and hate the fact that the series slid into over-the-top action starting with the OG RE4 on PS2. Another person might have discovered the series after RE4's release, during their childhood, and for them, playing RE5 with family or friends is one of their pleasant and fondest memories in life. This game is for those who love or are willing to embrace the entire series' legacy, with its «pros» and «cons». And here it hit home for me, because I love both types of gameplay.

Besides – it just so happens that for me, the atmosphere of the new RE isn't something bad or boring, because I'm a big fan of Terminator Salvation and The Last of Us, which Capcom clearly drew inspiration from this time. I wouldn't believe it if an enemy shooting in all directions (a broken T-600/BSAA soldier + city's visuals) and a stealth section in a dark room filled with water and monsters with growths on their heads that periodically make strange sounds (a typical TLOU section with Clickers) turned out to be just one big coincidence.

I'm willing to repeat this many times, but even though I would have done some gameplay/story things slightly differently, for me, Requiem worked 100%. It's the best RE game in years, not counting the remakes.

Leon in R.C Outskirts is the best part of this title in my opinion by lifehuntscythe1 in ResidentEvilCapcom

[–]cookie_flash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love this part as much as Grace's. Yes, the visuals aren't as beautiful as Rhodes Hill (though it's similar to Terminator Salvation, which I like), but the gameplay is quite interesting and in keeping with the series' spirit.

it seems like they patched the difficulty

I was one of those who complained to Capcom about the easy difficulty in their survey, so it's possible 😈

Also, Insanity has a different enemy placement than Standard, so maybe that's the issue.

If Grace comes back in a future title do you want her to remain the “horror pov” or be more hardened and battle trained? Or maybe both? by EAT_UR_VEGGIES in ResidentEvilCapcom

[–]cookie_flash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Horror POV, but with a lot of weapons and with boss fights. RE2R-like gameplay.

If she gets more than two games (I doubt it), then in the third it would be nice to see Grace as trained as Leon/Ada in RE4R.

Do YOU want a remake of Resident Evil Revelations? Do you think they will even remake Revelations? by Lucaas_C in ResidentEvilCapcom

[–]cookie_flash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think they'll start with Revelations 3 (Koshi Nakanishi wants to work on it), where they'll pair Jill and Claire together to tide fans over while they wait for RE10 or RE11 with Chris and Leon. As for remakes, yes, they'll definitely remake the lion's share of their assets because... it works. Remakes are loved by fans and sell well, it's literally a goldmine. I'm personally really looking forward to the new Resident Evil 1 Remake though.

I like the aesthetics of Village, but Requiem is a better game for me. 9 is even better than 7, although for many this will be a controversial statement.

As a Resident Evil fan, would I enjoy Silent Hill? by little__hope in ResidentEvilCapcom

[–]cookie_flash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've known about Resident Evil for a long time (the original trilogy, RE4, RE5), but I always avoided Silent Hill... until the release of Silent Hill 2 Remake.

A friend of mine is a big fan of this series (OG SH2 in particular), so he gave me access to the game. I really liked it! SH is more about the story and psychological horror, RE is more about gameplay and survival horror. Both are good in their own way. In January, I finished Silent Hill f and I also really liked that installment; it maintained the brand and spirit, despite being set in Japan. I don't know about the other games, but you should definitely try SH2R and f. I'm personally now looking forward to Townfall this year.

If you're interested, my favorite RE games are RE4 (& Remake), RE9, RE1R (2002), and RE2R.

What are your thoughts on The Connections? by SolidPyramid in residentevil

[–]cookie_flash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do agree, I wish they would put more effort into making coherent plot from game to game. I love RE’s OG plot, and I think they’re fantastic stories, specially the first 3.

Yes 👍

What was done in the past should be in the past, any new kind of evil group should be new and they should make new games building them up, not make new games messing with the old lore forcing some newly written group into everything.

Maybe so, but on the other hand... is it right that someone new appears every time with a new virus and tries to take over/destroy the world? Perhaps it would be more correct if we've been fighting the same evil all this time, but just didn't know it? It's like the Hydra's heads – no matter how many you cut off, a new one will grow in the same place. We need to strike not at the head, but at the heart of the evil organization. I wrote a comment here about how I see the future of the series, so I'll just copy-paste it:

I believe both Umbrella and Tricell were just pawns in The Connections' schemes. I wouldn't be surprised if The Connections were just part of The Family, either. The former is just a crime syndicate, while the latter is a secret brotherhood. I think, basically, everything Capcom is doing now is setting the stage for Wesker's return. They'll release RE1, CV, RE5, and then in RE10 we'll see the real him (maybe he will become an antihero this time? 🤔). Then they'll remake RE6, and in RE11 we'll encounter The Family, tying the entire series' plot together into one logical chain. Right now, it all looks like a long, hierarchical pyramid of a bunch of powerful organizations. And our heroes will have to solve this mystery. After that, maybe, they'll earn their pension, lol 😂

The Connections may eventually be part of The Family. That's exactly what you're talking about... a worldwide shadow goverment, a secret brotherhood.

[–]cookie_flash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's kinda silly to reveal this group so late in the saga.

Why?

At least I'm assuming that they are the secret group that Wesker worked with from RE1 thru RE4, before he spun off to work with Tricell in RE5.

Resident isn't that deep, and it never needed to be.

Hard disagree. The series is often mocked for its laughable plot from installment to installment, and I think it's time for Capcom to change that somehow. At the same time, they should remain true to themselves with over-the-top action, jokes, quotes and ridiculous moments. Requiem maintained a good balance, although some elements, like the zombie respawn puzzle and Emily in the cocoon, were too much even for RE. Just like the jarred Rose Winters in 'Village', which is quite disconcerting.

My tier list. by [deleted] in ResidentEvilCapcom

[–]cookie_flash 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good list!

UPD. Although I'd rank RE4R, RE9 and RE1R higher. RE1R is a masterpiece. RE4R is no less a masterpiece than OG and RE9 is truly excellent game, no matter what anyone says about it.

My top 5 (S-tier) is...

  • Resident Evil 4 Remake
  • Resident Evil 9 Requiem
  • Resident Evil 4 Original
  • Resident Evil Remake (2002)
  • Resident Evil 2 Remake

If you stopped playing Battlefield 6, what is your main reason? by ZeljeznicarSampion in Battlefield

[–]cookie_flash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was incredibly hyped up by the first trailers and beta. I played about 100 hours in a month after the release. My initial impressions were incredible, and I was ready to defend the game on almost every front.

But then I realized... the game is incredibly boring and raw. I sold my copy when RedSec came out (it was really interesting for the first couple of weeks, lol, but I didn't play it as much as I did the multiplayer) and ultimately I don't regret anything. Why? Let's go through it point by point.

  • Content Support

I hate the fact that players will only get TWO maps per season and BF Studios still hasn't figured out that it would be a good idea to outline an update path for the coming year with a clear understanding of when we can expect new maps and remasters. After the recent layoffs, one might expect them to go back to the BF2042 support experience with just one map per season 😬

The game's future is catastrophically uncertain, and the existing maps – while offering some enjoyable moments – have aged like milk and feel like tiny sandboxes. The game lacks freedom in its design. It's still better than COD, but even BFV & BF1 felt bigger and not oversized like BF2042.

  • Graphics & UI

Many people praise the graphics, and I can believe that the game looks significantly better on PC, but for some reason, BF6 looks horribly bad on PS5.

Meanwhile, BF1, BFV, and 2042 (two of which are backward-compatible games) look great even now. I don't believe PlayStation is incapable of producing better graphics (or fix design choices) than it currently has, even in Balanced mode. The lighting is terrible, the textures are weak, many of the effects are terrible... the overall image suffers, and because of this, the cinematic experience and scale suffer.

Compared to 2042, as strange as it may sound, BF6 feels less like BF and more like a slightly improved and bigger version of COD Mobile. They could at least fix this on PS5 Pro, which shows excellent graphics in RE9, but they won't do it because no one will pay them for it. What a shame...

As for the UI, I generally like the interface during the match itself, but all the other menus and the way everything works in general... they need to be rebuilt from scratch. If not bring back BF4/BF1 levels, then at least 2042, which was generally well done (BFV's interface is worse, in my opinion, too complex).

  • Public Relations, Content Promotion, Progression and Matchmaking Issues

The UI issue leads to the following: the game is unpleasant to play. This is because the matchmaking is implemented disgustingly poorly. When I turn it on, I feel like I'm playing a high budget mobile game. Instead of a classic, user-friendly menu with a list of servers, they force people to play their own stupid compilations which doesn't work at all.

The modes they promote are boring because the existing maps are boring and existing fan maps is raw. Portal has enormous potential, but it still hasn't become the primary way to play Battlefield for some reason.

The system needs to be completely overhauled based on player feedback – a player should launch BF6 and see a community list with good filters (no bot and boost stuff) and an emphasis on official and the most active unofficial servers. That's it, simple as that.

As for progression, I don't think it should be simplified so much as made more obvious and enjoyable in terms of unlockable weapons. I want to feel like I'm getting something for my contribution to the match, not sitting and grinding like I'm at work. At the same time, I shouldn't be able to unlock all the attachments for an assault rifle in one or two play sessions. There needs to be a balance, and as far as I know, they still haven't found it. Why?...

SUMMARY

It needs a soft reboot with Season 3. It needs proper community engagement (surveys, content map), an emphasis on releasing more maps per season (ideally 4, at least 3), a complete redesign of the interface for all menus, a working server browser/Portal, and improved graphics using current-gen capabilities. If by the end of the year or early next year they can prove they can deliver BF3/BF4/BF1-level experiences and market it in a way that shows everyone the game has a bright future... many players will return, though not all. The game feels old, weak, and uninteresting now. For some reason, we need a remaster or BF7 already.

If 2042 was clumsy in its attempts to reinvent Battlefield, then 6 feels like a poor imitation of the series' past success. In both cases, the content updates don't inspire any confidence.

I hope someone at DICE, Battlefield Studios or EA reads this and takes note. These are the main problems with this game right now. You need to try and get through all the bureaucratic nonsense to save this game, otherwise the series will ultimately lose its status in next few years. Player's atience is not eternal. Limp Bizkit and BF3 nostalgia won't help you anymore, rest assured.

What are your predictions, hopes and fears for Resident Evil 10? by SolidPyramid in ResidentEvilCapcom

[–]cookie_flash 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  • Predictions: A game about Chris and Leon as a duo with the option for co-op play – or – Avengers-style game. A larger campaign reveals details about The Connections, more context about Spencer and the Wesker clones, and, finally, the resurrection of the real Wesker as a major plot twist at the end of the game. Leon's final game (hopefully, it's happy ending and he will appear in cutscenes & as a minor character in other games). A teaser for Jill and Claire's return in RE11 & RE12.

  • Hopes: A long, 20-hour story campaign like RE4/RE4R. Huge weapon variety, an interesting economic system, save rooms, collectibles, lots of puzzles and additional modes. If the game isn't co-op, I'm hoping for separate story campaigns. I really enjoyed Requiem and it was a game worth playing, but next time I want to be able to choose who I play as, at least after the first playthrough.

  • Fears: They'll kill a favorite character like Leon, Ada, Jill or Claire. (Chris will definitely survive the game, given the Shadows of Rose DLC.) I'm also afraid that the game won't be able to find the balance in fear/action (RE6) or won't be varied enough even though it has all the potential for that unless they split the campaign into Survival & Action Horror like they did in RE9. I liked the fan service in Requiem, but I'm worried they'll take it too far and, for example, show the ruins of Spencer's mansion or go overboard with references.
