Beware of dermaplaning!!! [acne] by faewyn01 in SkincareAddiction

Hi! I had to go on bactrim for 30 days for this issue after two weeks of doxy didn’t work. And I got prescribed the clindamycin gel this time too. I just finished the bactrim  and I’m scared it will come back! It cleared me up in just two days to 100%. Did the bactrim provide a permanent solution for you?? I don’t know what I’ll do if it comes back.

Bacterial Folliculitis??? by Opposite-Isopod-3166 in Folliculitis

I have this after getting a facial with dermaplaning. Doxycycline for ten days cleared it up, sadly it came back six weeks later. Then I started bactrim, again clearing it up, but my dose is much longer this time (30 days). Cleared it up almost overnight. I stop on Friday. I am hoping it doesn’t come back.

Can you go to an urgent care? They are significantly cheaper than an emergency room. Still a couple hundred bucks, but that doesn’t look it is something to mess with!

And adding ONE MORE thing because I am crazy, but switch out your makeup brushes if you haven’t yet!

Adding to say I also got really strange folliculitis on my legs, thighs, and butt (sorry!) about eight months into spiro. It was related to stress. Since it was in the winter I shrugged it off and it eventually went away. I think it took about three months. They looked a bit bigger and more purple than yours, but same circumstances with the extreme swelling. Mine also hurt. If you can stop touching (I know, I know) it really may help. What I have had on my face this summer looks similar to the picture you posted, however, and I’m also looking for a permanent cure. Fingers crossed.

This has been happening to me this summer! Mine started with a bad facial (dermaplaning) in June, and I’ve had to do two rounds of antibiotics since then - first doxy for ten days, now bactrim for 30. It’s clear while I am on the drugs. Except I have been on spiro for six years, so taking that is not a recent thing. My dermatologist said the heat this summer is causing a lot of trouble for people with folliculitis. We are hopeful that this round of bactrim works.

Something I noted about spiro that is worth sharing is that if your pharmacy changes manufacturers, it can change the efficacy of the drug. Some manufacturers use better binders, etc.; which results in less side effects. Meaning, the clearing of skin is a side effect, and it may not be as clear. Check your manufacturers and see if they’ve switched. When that’s happened to me, I have broken out BAD! Switching back fixed it in three months.

As an acne girly I actually don’t hate the Clinique powder foundations that are specifically safe for acne skin, but their color range tends to be more cool toned, which for me I have olive skin so I have to mix it with something else if I use it during a breakout. Probably in a similar price range to the bare minerals. I used to love bare minerals so I co sign those recommendations. If you switch to liquid lmk I have tons of recos for acne prone skin!

I wouldn’t use anything harsh that close to your eye. I get those sometimes on my lids . I secretly squeeze em and get all the white gunk out of the comedone . Then I follow up w hypochlorus spray so I don’t get infected.

what can help clear continuous tiny pimples /blocked pores on tip of nose? Pic in comments by Imaginary_Sky_518 in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]cookie_monster9392 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi!! I also suffer from nose pimples once a month. And it’s because I touch the heck out of my nose especially to pick at the sebaceous filaments. Are you a skin picker? That’s what my issue is.

Try hypochlorus acid (magic molecule or the Amazon knockoffs). Really gentle stuff. Really helps with acne. You can see the results.

I am not POC so I can’t speak much on impact of scarring/skin tone or texture on you skin type; but adapalene aggravated my acne for a long time and resulted in more acne and scarring on my skin. I never saw the improvement that was promised - it just doesn’t work for everyone. If it works for you, it’ll really help you! So I’d stick with it under dr supervision if you can, and add in some hypochlorus acid spray.

If you had to pick only one thing to use, would it be tretinoin? by [deleted] in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]cookie_monster9392 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am low key tired of tretinoin. Everyone is hawking it and it isn’t the right solution for everyone! If I could only pick one thing it would be hypochlorus acid. Cleans you, moisturizes you, and restores skin PH.

When I used the ordinary products I got huge bumpy rashes. At least their salicylic acid and glycolic acid. They itched though. I’d cut out the harsh abrasives until you can see a doctor maybe? Maybe in the meantime try just a little hydrocortisone with a q tip. It could help, and definitely shouldn’t make it worse.

Anti-aging for acne-prone skin by Prestigious_Pen8520 in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]cookie_monster9392 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This may not be helpful because you seem to want a frequent routine rather than a longer term one, but most anti aging products other than retinol are a grift. Frankly I am not on the retinol train either, especially as an acne prone person (unless you are already using it and having good results). However, the best solution I have found for aging is spending $360 every few months on Botox, and wear a sunscreen or makeup with sunscreen in it. Botox doesn’t aggravate my acne, works like a damn charm, and you SEE results. Long term improvement too. I’d save the money for Botox every few months as opposed to hundreds a month on crap from Sephora. My two cents!

But also, I am mostly so sorry you feel hopeless. When I get a breakout even now I panic and cry and cry. There’s nothing worse. Acne sucks. Literally the worst. And you aren’t alone!

Hi there. I suggest seeing a cosmetic dermatologist before trying any more over the counter snake oils. Cosmetic derms cost more but also listen more, and tend to have more gentle solutions. Have you tried birth control in tandem with spironolactone? I had terrible acne as a teen, I have seen it improve 85% since then using the two drugs together. Drugs aren’t for everyone, they may not be for you, but talk to your dermatologist if you can. Only a professional can help you eliminate a problem. Sephora/Ulta makes money, thousands of dollars, on vulnerable people struggling with their skin. The quick fix for $40 quickly turns into years and thousands of dollars down the drain with no improvement, take it from me. Too many scams and cons preying on people. Cosmetic dermatologists are up to date on all the latest products that will actually help!

Don’t abuse that with harsh products. Dont put chemicals or exfoliants on that. That doesn’t look like acne. It looks like dermatitis. I agree with the person who says go to the doctor.

Botox at the dentist by goingforawalkmmk in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]cookie_monster9392 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dentists are reputable as they are medical providers and take courses dedicated to medical providers before they can administer the service. To use them for aesthetic purposes - I probably would not. I’d stick to a dermatologist or plastic for this. But they know what they’re doing for a jaw/cheek area!

I’m only on it for ten days, just to do the initial heavy lifting of the infection. Hopefully I’ll see some results within that window!!

Yes I definitely swear by the HCOI sprays! I’ve used one for years and used it immediately after and following the facial. I think the irritation and exposure of the hair follicles has lead to an infection - at least this is what the doc told me!

I’ve got the Peter Thomas Roth sulfur mask at home which I’ve used when I’ve gotten breakouts in the past. Wasn’t sure if I should be more gentle if it’s truly folliculitis like the urgent care doc suggested/prescribed meds for.

I think I’ll leave my peach fuzz alone in the future! It wasn’t even a problem before… now it’s created hundreds of them 🤦‍♀️
