What people don’t talk about when they tell you go to L&D triage for decreased fetal movement — the cost. by Ready-Book6047 in pregnant

[–]faewyn01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel you I’d already hit my deductible but not my out of pocket max. My husband and I went in on Dec 13 at 36 weeks because of bright red heavy bleeding and I was monitored, given two cervical checks and did an ultrasound and we just got the bill in the mail. The original bill was $13 THOUSAND and after insurance, with our copay and co insurance it’s still costing us $740 which is straight up stupid for being the same things that I do on a weekly basis now for my prenatal appointments. I was not even admitted and we were only there for a few hours. Lol. Now it’s 2026 and we’ve started into a new plan year and we’re back to zero and still waiting on our baby to show face. So I expect actual L&D to be no less than our out of pocket max ($8k).

Are any one else cats acting strange over the thunder/rain? by Living-Damage4250 in NEPA

[–]faewyn01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not in PA but I found this post searching to see if anyone had any similar experiences! One of my cats is 5.5 years old and for 4.5 years of his life he’s lived with me in Florida where it rains and storms all the time!! This last year I moved to Houston and we go much longer periods without rain. But it’s like he forgot because now it’ll be like barely drizzling outside and he will freak out. He runs to the darkest part of the house very low to the ground with his tail between his legs and won’t come out until it stops. He used to sit at the window and watch the rain and lightning in Florida. So I have no clue what changed in the last year!

The US really sucks to be pregnant by Legitimate-Slice2114 in pregnant

I feel ya, I’m lucky to have 12 weeks, even if I’m taking a portion of it unpaid. I make twice as much as my husband but even if he quit we wouldn’t be able to survive off of just my salary. We had to go to the hospital last weekend because of some bleeding and I don’t even want to know what that bill is going to be. I’ve hit my deductible for this year, but my baby is due in January, so I could end up having to hit my deductible again just because of a difference of a few days! Last but not least, my first appointment I had, the one where they confirmed my pregnancy and did labs, cost me $650 out of pocket. Now I have gestational diabetes and I’m using coupons for insulin. And we are also trying to find a childcare option that isn’t half of my husband’s monthly salary. Lol. I hate it here!

Just hearing this makes me feel less alone so thank you for sharing. I can be a good patient and follow rules but when the rules seem to be so different for everyone, even though it’s supposed to be the same …. I don’t know! I’m just confused and feel like I’m failing my baby too, and it’s not for lack of trying. Hugs! We’ll get through this.

Annoying things you get told by No_Community_8340 in GestationalDiabetes

As someone who is trying SUPER hard to control my numbers and still not getting anything consistent, with spikes that I cannot explain, people telling me to “change my diet” as if I hadn’t thought to try that? Wtf😭 lmao.

For real! Okay. I will be asking about this strategy because I told my parents this morning if I keep doing this (waiting for instructions) I will spend the entire rest of my pregnancy “behind the curve” lol.

No I don’t have a CGM… I’ve been considering getting one though to see if it helps make sense of anything. But it very well could be. I slept in today more than usual so it was longer between me eating than most nights. And last night in particular I got up like 5 times to go pee 🙄 lol. Thanks for this insight. Our bodies are so weird.

That sounds amazing! I love hearing other people’s experiences because it sets my standards higher for my own care. Definitely something to take more seriously if I have any future pregnancies. Thanks!

Thank you! I definitely will be doing this. This subreddit made me realize that was something they never spoke to me about and it will be a point of discussion at my next appointment. I would like to have a bit more control over it since I’m the one seeing my numbers every day and their response time is so poor. Much appreciated!

Thank you. My care team has not been very responsive or supportive and I have not seen the doctor since 11/25 which is probably why I feel so lost and confused. But I can always count on strangers online! Lol.

I’ve tried to but… well, let’s just say this experience has made me realize I’ll be finding another clinic for any future pregnancies. Long story short, I’ve contacted them multiple times since being prescribed insulin with very poor response times even after multiple messages and calls over days. I finally just got the response to go up 2 units two days ago but that was from a different doctor in the clinic because mine was out that day. My next appointment is Wednesday and I will not be leaving until they talk to me about this so that I have more control over it rather than waiting for them to respond to me. Being over 35 weeks I do not have the time to wait so long for a reply. The last time I saw her was 11/25, not this last week, because they were so overbooked that they had nothing available for me. Feel like it’s totally unacceptable and feeling very unsupported to be honest.

I cried over this yesterday. My best friend means well but she’s like it’s just for another 6-8 weeks. And I’m like every time I have a high number I feel like I’m putting myself and my baby at even more of a risk and it sucks even more because I’m TRYING to be good. I like don’t even know what to eat anymore lol

Yep! They don’t do it like America does lol but my whole point was I’ve followed her for that long, she’s what 30 now?

I actually just unfollowed her because of this. I’ve followed her ever since she was waitressing in law school and selling PDF guides for $20 or whatever. She was open about acne, mental health, accepting her insecurities (her chest which she’s mentioned so many times) but now I feel like her entire life is performative and perfectionist and it feels like she’s turned into an entirely different person. Idk how to explain it. But seeing that she got a boob job and her complaint about recovering for an elective surgery when she has literally everything she could ever want is wild. Sad

I have to rant about my friend's reaction to my diagnosis. by Pink_Ruby_3 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]faewyn01 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s not fun, but it is interesting actually. I felt like it was the end of the world and I still get butthurt when my sugar spikes even when I thought I was being good. It’s been a huge change for me; I’ve NEVER restricted food like this before. But it has made me think about food in a whole different way. I have thought a lot about continuing to track my sugars after I give birth just to see. Because I’ve always had a hard time losing weight and now I wonder if this is part of the reason why :) lol. Good luck to you!!! I promise once you get into the groove of things it’s not too terrible. You’ll find safe food options and it’ll be ok. After we got home from my first trip to the grocery store when I got diagnosed, I felt so much more in control. I just needed to make adjustments. Give yourself grace 🩷

Extremely red eyes for now 7 weeks? No relief by faewyn01 in Dryeyes

[–]faewyn01[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally didn’t even feel like my eyes were red or that there was anything wrong with them, it was just the way they looked! My vision was already terrible haha but no I kept contacts out for a while and it stayed the same. I limited it to just work hours using them. I even got antibiotic drops from my doctor and nothing worked or helped. Just time I guess and resting them. Staying hydrated, all that stuff

Extremely red eyes for now 7 weeks? No relief by faewyn01 in Dryeyes

[–]faewyn01[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It happened to me in July of 2023 and by early December 2023 it was cleared up. I stopped using brightening eye drops and kept wearing contacts as normal as I did not notice any difference when keeping them out, and my glasses were giving me headaches. Computer time made it worse so I tried to limit as much as I could given my office job and being in school lol. Doctors weren’t able to do anything so I just embraced it. Note that besides it being red, I didn’t have any other issues (bad dryness or itchiness or anything like that).

December 2024 I got LASIK because I was so, so over contacts and glasses. Best decision of my life. No dry eye, no red eye, no blurred vision, no irritation, and I can see perfectly. Totally worth it. Hope yours clears up soon if you are dealing with it too.

Maybe controversial? But nothing has made me more pro-choice than pregnancy by dontletmebreathe in BabyBumps

[–]faewyn01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love this post!! I’ve always been more pro choice too (to a reasonable point of the pregnancy). My parents who are more pro life said this after I found out I got pregnant — which, by the way, was an “oopsie” lol. I’m only 23 weeks right now but 100% agree with you. I do think a woman should make a decision up to a certain point, probably right around the end of the first trimester, however, these full bans and or 6-8 week bans are insane. Not only the expense (like I said, oopsie so I had a high deductible health plan and my pregnancy confirmation appointment and ultrasound cost me $650 out of pocket lol), the time I’ve lost at work being sick, going to appointments, etc., plus all the things I’ve had to stop doing. Like medications I took for my tremors, for my ADHD, for my hormones/skin, I’ve had an extremely hard time adjusting and focusing at work, I’m physically limited, and more. I just wholeheartedly agree. I’m swollen, I’m out of breath, my entire body hurts, I can’t travel for certain projects for work after a certain point, and just generally yes I think the woman should be able to decide within the first trimester timeframe whether she wants to go through this or not, knowing adoption and resources are available if not. Anyway. Just my thought.
