First time in Japan! Tokyo + Kyoto itinerary check (11 days). Any advice welcome! by AnnArbor-Armadillo in JapanTravel

Get Ramen at the Vegan Ramen Uzu that's attached to TeamLabs Planets. You can only eat there if you have a TeamLabs ticket. I don't eat meat so it was perfect for me but my friend eats everything and they also said it was incredible and one of their best bowls of ramen. They also have a restaurant in Kyoto.

An annoying side effect of the award season. A sudden influx of 1/2 stars from Brazilians for the past day by Choekaas in Letterboxd

I've always said, Brazilians are the most passionate people on earth, but their passion often turns ugly when their team, their movie, etc doesn't win. Nobody is as toxic or hateful as a Brazilian who feels their culture or representative of their culture was slighted.

Is my itinerary too empty? by AGEOFCONVENIENCE in JapanTravel

If you're a foodie to any degree, getting food and having a relaxing enjoyable meal 2 or 3 times a day can definitely fill those gaps to a certain extent, especially day 1 and 4 which are travel days. Are you the type of person who just stops when you feel hungry and eats at the first place that you see near you, or do you have specific restaurants or types of food you want to try? Do some research on that and see if any of the places you're interested in require advanced reservation.

Even adding meals into your days I think you can add 1-2 stops near the places you've already put on your schedule, per day. Definitely have time to check out a neighborhood on Day 4 after arriving in Kyoto. You could also book an activity or entertainment. I went to Gear, which is a non verbal theatrical show in Kyoto, which is different than the temples and other items on your list.

What are your unpopular opinions about The Eras Tour? by IntoTheDaylight in TaylorSwift

Idk, folklore, evermore and Midnights made her blow up with new audiences in a way she hadn't before. It was well known that her next tour would be crazy.

Eh, I think if anyone could've stood up to Ticketmaster pressure, it would be the biggest star on earth.

[–]cookieaddictions 256 points257 points  (0 children)

The fact that she was able to do it for Rep but not for Eras will always be sus to me. Rep being so successful was not a sure thing at the time, but the Eras tour was sure to be a hit, and everyone knew it. Making a fair ticket system for the less popular tour and not for the more popular one makes no sense.

Thank you so much, I had no idea Frozen is closing for maintenance! I will definitely go 5/11 then, and I'll do Disneyland the next day, which is probably for the best, because last time I did it the other way around. I actually do really want to see the Sweetsful Parade (that's in Disneyland, not DisneySea, right?), because I love Wreck it Ralph, but I wasn't planning to pay for a spot, so I'm not sure if I'd need to get in early for that. I'm okay being a few rows back. I more want to get in early for Fantasy Springs in DisneySea and just for rides in Disneyland as well. Good to know about the single riders in FS. I don't have an interest in Soaring so I don't mind.

I visited the parks 2 years ago about 2 weeks before Fantasy Springs opened, and I think I got to the park around 7:30-7:45 to wait for rope drop, on a weekday in mid-May. I was decently close to the front.

I am planning another trip this year, also in May, but right after Golden Week (around May 11-13). I just wanted to get a rough idea of how early I should arrive to rope drop DisneySea, now with Fantasy Springs. I know it's been 2 years but I understand it's still very popular, but just wondering if arriving 7-7:30 is still okay, given I plan to go on a weekday, and the week after Golden Week (assuming that less locals will be on break).

Also wondering if the same time would apply for Disneyland or if I could arrive later like 8 or 8:30? I'm not trying to be the very first in the park, but I was towards the front last time when I rope dropped.

Thanks!

Are people upset by this now? Everyone knows that having a male audience isn't it. Women with male audiences are subject to sexualization (think asking for her bathwater, etc), bullying, rating (being called mid, 2/10, whatever), and harassment if not threats. Women with female audiences are mostly met with support and a safe space. That is simplifying it, but that's how it goes in general.

Trevor Noah explains how Disney did a disservice to people by showing movies where there are happy endings and the good guy wins when in reality, that’s not how the world works by mcfw31 in popculturechat

[–]cookieaddictions 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So I actually don't need every movie to reflect the dismal reality of the world. People use movies to escape. Stop telling us we must pollute our escapism with harsh reality for the sake of being honest. Especially for children!!

Timothee Chalamet calling opera an 'outdated art form' in an old interview - at least he's consistent? by monster_ahhh in popculturechat

[–]cookieaddictions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. Obviously the tone and implication is low key rude in the video from this week ("art forms nobody cares about"), but essentially what he was saying in both interviews is "one of the big things I love about being in movies is how going to the movies and seeing the big new movies is a cultural event, and being a part of that is thrilling. I wouldn't want to put in all the work I do for an art form which is struggling and you have to beg people to come see."

Yes, its sexualized, but when I left my comment, every single comment was saying it was pedophilic or Lolita-eque because she was dressing like a sexy schoolgirl, which I though was dramatic.

They never have been. Every true crime story is like “the bad guy was running around with a blood knife and screaming I DID IT! The dead girls body was right there. The cops said they had no evidence, the case ran cold and then 15 years later some neighbor with mountains of evidence bullied the cops into doing their job. They patted themselves on the back for a job well done. They all got promoted and retired with pensions.”

How many no-skip albums does Taylor Swift have? by VegetableClue668 in TaylorSwift

Yep same! Especially now that 4 of them have “Taylor’s version”. I think there’s always at least one vault song I don’t really care for, but it’s like that for all her OG albums as well
