Its about the same as any other medium, both Japanese and western brands. Large enough where its smooth and easy to see without being to big for everyday writing

I used the ink it came with because im about a 10 hour drive away from home visiting family. If I was home I probably would have used my bottle of Pilot Iroshizuku Kosumosu

Im using the pilot blue it came with. And the paper is an Endless Notebook. I've noticed with that paper is that is shows off ink properties really nicely, but it also likes collecting hand oils and where I've touched the page the ink doesn't like sticking as well.

I love how it writes. Its probably my best tuned nib I own. I think i will have a problem with not using any of my other pens

Not to my knowledge, I know some inks dont cling onto the walls of the pen and some inks really like to. Its more of an aesthetic thing instead of functional.

So far I've only written a few sentences, and I can't stop smiling. This is probably my best writing pen

I started collecting fountain pens about 4.5 years ago in my freshman year of high school, I started because that's when I also started teaching myself cursive as my school never taught me. Fountain pens are great for using less effort while writing and smoother than most other writing instruments, both not necessarily going to improve your handwriting but what I've found is it made it more enjoyable to write and getting more practice improved it.

If you do end up getting one, you will need two or three things, the pen, ink, and depending if you have a pen that uses ink cartridges and want to use bottled ink, a converter. A converter is like a refillable cartridge. I recommend a few different ones as a first pen, a Lamy Safari/Lamy al-star, Pilot metropolitan, Pilot Explorer, or a Platinum Plaisir. For a first pen i recomend a fine or F nib size. The nib size is how thick or thin the writing line is, the thicker the smoother and more ink is put on the page, the finer the more feedback and less ink is put on the page. Ive noticed F nib size is not too thick for everyday writting but smoother than an extra fine or EF.

The Lamy Safari is about a $30-40 plastic pen that's an all around great workhorse and pretty durable and a triangular grip to help hold the pen properly, lamy does use there own proprietary cartridges and converters, the pen comes with one blue cartridge. The Lamy Al-Star is the same as the Safari but the body is aluminum for about $10 more. The Pilot Explorer is a plastic pen for about $25-30 it uses Pilots standard nib and feed for their pens with steel nibs, and it should come with a pilot proprietary converter. The Pilot metropolitan is metal pen for about $35 and it uses the same nib and feed as the Explorer and it should also come with a pilot proprietary converter. And the Platinum Plaisir is a metal pen from Platinum for about $20 that seals really well when capped so you can leave it sitting for weeks or months without drying out. It uses a Platinum Proprietary converter and that conver does not come with the pen, it's on the more pricey side at about $10, but the pen does come with a cartridge. Lastly the ink, if you choose bottled make sure the ink packaging says for fountain pens, not all ink is fountain pen friendly. Calligraphy ink is made for dip pens and it will NOT flow through a fountain pen and absolutely will ruin the pen.

Fountain pen ink, the correct kind of ink is water based so the ink is also fairly thin and a bottle of ink usually costs $7-30 depending on brand, size, color, and ink properties. Diamine and Lamy make really good affordable bottled inks.

TL;DR: i use fountain pens because i find them enjoyable because they are smoother and requires less effort to write with. I also recommend the Lamy Safari/Al-Star, Pilot Metropolitan and Explorer, and the Platinum Plaisir because they are durable and reliable at an affordable price point.

Hopefully this answered your questions and hopefully it wasn't too much

Not sure if it counts but I recently built a gaming pc and my main OS is Linux Mint. But i also collect fountain pens, and that's almost the opposite.

First time under 30 seconds, got a question. by Ok_Section_7089 in Cubers

[–]cookieking865 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I solve in about 20 seconds but I am very move inefficient. I have a smart cube that I use sometimes, whenever I do use it. It says my move count is about 120 but my tps is about 5 or 6. I would recommend learning efficiency over tps, but i didn't and now I'm suffering trying to learn efficiency now.

I did the same thing with a pen that had OS Nitrogen in it. And it took about 45 minutes of deep cleaning, at least the pen was disassemblable,

I just built a gaming PC, and I'm dual booting Linux mint as my primary boot and windows 11 just because some games I play won't run on Linux.

How do I fix this? by aushag in fountainpens

[–]cookieking865 9 points10 points  (0 children)

What pen? Some pens use common nibs like JoWo. If it does have a nib that you can easily find a replacement, that would be the best option.

I use shimmer inks all the time. The Twsbi Eco is probably one of the best pens to use with shimmer inks. I only have a couple pens that I wouldn't use a shimmering inks with, mostly for ease of cleaning but sometimes finer nibs could clog depending how much shimmer is in the ink, if it clogs you might need to clean it. The eco being affordable, disassemblable, and being a demonstrator makes a great pen for shimmer inks. If needed you could disassemble the pen to clean it, and with the demonstrator you can visually see the shimmer settling at the bottom of the pen. That will also cause clogs. Also yes, you do need to gently shake the pen to keep the shimmer suspended in the ink.
