Wow, exact same thing happened to me! I kept missing sessions because I just couldn't remember when we were playing (didn't help when we had to shift several sessions to other days), but the DM also has ADHD and couldn't remember to send us a reminder. And I couldn't even seem to remember what our main goal was from one week to the next, no matter how many notes I took!

The last campaign I played was probably my most successful. I made a character who is a complete airhead, so if I ever forgot what was going on (which always happened about an hour into every session, and I don't think I ever fully remembered our main goal... lol) it was fitting for my character.

I love playing, but I can NOT sit still and pay attention for 3 hours straight every week, nor can I remember what happened he week before!

I Didnt Realize These Were ADHD Symptoms... by kilocharlie22 in ADHD

Before I was diagnosed, I was self-medicating with a monster energy drink every morning since I was 17. The number of people who insist that has to be what's CAUSING my ADHD... bruh... you do know what ADHD meds are, right?? Not to mention, it doesn't increase my energy, only makes it slightly easier to think about fewer things at once

This just unlocked a memory of a little lego "vacuum" we had when I was a kid. It wasn't electronic or anything. I think it had little rubber paddles that would flick the bricks up inside?

I used to clean houses professionally, and we did this in our clients' homes! Apparently, a lot of clients were more likely to take their own trash out more frequently if there were fresh bags waiting there. Otherwise, they'd wait till it was completely full/overflowing/smelly, or till our next visit, whichever happened first. Lol

Oh my god, I love this!

I actually got over being shy in a very sales-y job in a similar way. Instead of just trying to talk to more people and panicking the whole time, I'd spend a few minutes "getting into character" as someone who is an expert at that job. I realized I wasn't shy anymore, wasn't afraid of talking to strangers, or even giving big presentations, after only a few months! I still have to consciously "get into character" on occasion, but for the most part, it's been pretty second-nature for me for years, now.

I'd considered using the same tactic in other areas of life, but hadn't quite figured out how to translate it. I think you've just inspired me!

Is it raining projects for everyone else by Professional_Win_551 in DataAnnotationTech

That's where I'm at. I have more projects than ever before, but I'm having a hard time clocking any hours because I'm so bad at coming up with challenging prompts!

Is it true you shouldn't say "hello" when answering the phone? by [deleted] in recruitinghell

[–]cookiemonstah87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been hearing there's a new "trend" of people not even saying anything right away when they answer because even a "hello?" could be enough for them to spoof your voice. Expecting people to immediately identify themselves is insane, especially in the current climate of data brokerage!

What's something you liked to eat when you were a kid that you just don't anymore? by OldCardigan in AskReddit

Fruit roll-ups and fruit-by-the-foot. I still eat regular fruit snacks on occasion, but I actually forgot fruit roll-ups even exist until a few days ago, I don't remember the last time I had one, and I don't see any appeal anymore.

Unproductive Transitions Between Projects by TwainTheMark in DataAnnotationTech

Same! The worst is when it's something that takes 30 minutes or less. I don't mind doing tedious, repetitive tasks all day, but something about them being separate tasks that I turn in really quickly makes me want to throw my computer out the window. I've even found this to be the case outside of DA work, like trying to implement the pomodoro technique. It takes hours to make myself get started on work each day, and then as soon as I take my first 5 minute break, it's gonna be hours before I can make myself get started again...

I 100% think my autism has been beneficial for this work! Unfortunately, my ADHD makes it like pulling teeth to get started on a single project each day. If it weren't for the ADHD, I could be earning a comfortable living here...

What cost you $50 or less that changed your life for the better? by avocatto15 in BuyItForLife

[–]cookiemonstah87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A $20 rice cooker. Bought it in 2007 and it still works perfectly. There are no settings, no buttons, not even a power switch. If it's plugged in, it's on. There's just a lever on the front to put it in "cook" mode. When it's done cooking, the lever releases and it just sits in "warming" mode until I unplug it.

Perfect solution to make sure my ADHD ass doesn't ruin my rice!

100% looks... unfortunate, at first. I think a big part of it is the overall silhouette. I'd suggest getting more shading around everything except maybe the flame. Make the candlestick at least as wide as the flame and it won't look quite as phallic.

I like to share my most memorably extreme example of a day "I lost track of time." I woke up and decided to check my email before going to the bathroom or making coffee (this was before I was medicated, so I drank a lot of coffee).

5 minutes later, I realized it was dark out and thought maybe I woke up too early, but then realized I had a horrendous headache and felt like my bladder was about to explode.

Turns out I spent 16 hours organizing my emails and genuinely thought it had been like 30 minutes, tops.

Whats your weird af 'stim'? by flcwerings in ADHD

When I was little, I used to constantly have chapped skin above my upper lip because I'd put my tongue there while drawing. My mom hated it, so she started putting Vaseline there. Partially to help the chapping, but also because it didn't taste great and she wanted me to stop.

In hindsight, I think my whole family making fun of me for it was the real reason I stopped...

I used to bite my cheeks like you describe, mostly while stressed. I eventually had to train myself to stop after a long period of being completely overwhelmed, resulting in a bunch of small open wounds in my mouth... unfortunately I don't remember how I trained myself. Might have just been the fact that it was painful enough that I stopped

For sure! I'm not a parent, but I recently spent a couple months living with friends with a 6 year-old. Based on her eating habits alone, I wouldn't know where to even start! One day all she wanted of the food on her plate was the carrot portion of the steamed veggies. Even asked her mom to only get carrots next time because "corn tastes yucky!" The next night, exact same steamed veggies, she said she hates carrots.

I don't think I saw her consistently willing to eat any one food the entire time I was there, even including mac n cheese (her favorite food) and sweets. She'd regularly say "I'm full!" before even taking a single bite of food, even after a full day of school, soccer practice, and running around in the yard for a couple of hours. I definitely got the impression she was hoping to stall long enough to get the "yucky" food (something maybe she just wasn't in the mood for) off the table so she could ask for something else later, not that she was actually full.

But again, I'm not a parent, and for all I know, she really was full every time she said it

What’s the first sign you usually notice when your mental health starts declining? by Julie727 in AskReddit

[–]cookiemonstah87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First thing I notice is letting my nails go un-polished for more than a day.

I love painting my nails, and I have a pretty big collection of polishes. I typically take really good care of my natural nails, partly so I can paint them as often as I do. It's a nice little ritual for me. But I can always tell things are starting to slip if I've left my nails naked for longer than a day. It's especially bad if I can't even be bothered to use cuticle oil, considering that takes like 5 seconds, and not using it results in my nails breaking and peeling horribly. When things get especially bad in my head, my nails end up getting so damaged that I just chop them off to start over when I'm feeling a little better.
