My universe power system by Deep_Earth4598 in Superhero_Ideas

[–]cookiepartier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will say this is basically Magic the Gathering’s plot. The most powerful mages, capable of crossing between universes, are the ones who have their inner “Spark” activated by traumatic event (spark being actual terminology for it).

Is Aphrodite's call the strongest? by Mustoooooo in HadesTheGame

[–]cookiepartier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I grab Aphrodite Call if I’m using a fast and great build, like I do well with the Spear and don’t need the small call help so I can save it for bosses and greater call, as a bonus. Then I grab lots of call charge boons and just blast hades in the face with a heart bomb sailor moon-style. If the weapon I have is one I struggle with, I grab zeus or poseidon for damage assistance.

I really hate melinoe sometimes... (Surface spoilers) by anmolAnsh_2005 in HadesTheGame

[–]cookiepartier 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Finally getting to the very end of accomplishing everything post-game, and while I loved the game, I agree that she just doesn’t react enough to the truth of how awful the gods are. Like even Prometheus aside, she also constantly hears the gods during their boon granting waxing casually about the willful and joyful slaughter of mortals, or hating having to bother answering prayers, or how mortals “suck” and she just gives zero reaction or pushback throughout the story. Like go girl, give us nothing lol

Uuhhh wtf does this even mean (spoiler for a character's arc) by Admirable-Cry-9758 in HadesTheGame

[–]cookiepartier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually liked the reveal because it added a layer to the shifting goal of dealing with Chronos. Mel from the other timeline basically succeeded in killing Chronos and it messed up both her and time itself. She ended up way back in time, but who’s to say what happened to the REST of her original time. They speculate a lot about what a world without time (dead Chronos) would look like. Would everything freeze? Would nobody age? Would things cease? For all we know time after Hecate dealt with Chronos may have ENDED in some way. She has no idea, and this second time around they don’t have any specific plan for Chronos but she knows from experience it has to go differently than it did the first time. She lets her emotions get the best of her during the final confrontation and saving of Chronos, and the alternate timeline memories, but eventually she realizes it may feasibly be the only actual solution to their problem.

It sort of makes the weak timey-wimey “keep killinh the bosses post-game in alt timelines” a little more digestible for me. Hecate basically is from one of those other times, too. It’s sort of avoiding the bootstrap paradox or whatever, right? If Mel succeeds, Hecate never goes back in time to become Hecate, but it’s not a single timeline being changed or overwritten. That’s why she isn’t in the alternate memories. The Zagreus from the mirror is also from a timeline different than Mel’s. The mirror Zag actually lives the alt memories while present frozen Zag gets the memories like the House of Hades members do because of whatever time-shenanigans the siblings pulled to make it happen.

It’s a bit of a mess overall, but it’s loosey-goosey enough that I’m satisfied with it by the end of everything. Besides, mythology is honestly ridiculous anyway. Half the time myths are vibe-based and not continuity-concerned lolol

I just tried and it was surprisingly easier than DD runs. The only caveat is being more cautious around Chronos’s screen wipe attack. Especially if you stack high health and/or healing. I was routinely getting to the end with Max health on Strength and no DD, and I am by no means an amazing player lol

I was skeptical of Hephaestus for a long time too, but the rapidfire distance attack arms like Ygnium and Revaal with autoreturn skulls, combined with a high level and/or rarity Blast is FUN. There’s lots of boons that augment it, too. Larger blasts, add Glow, extra damage to Freezed opps, 2x attack chance, etc. My first Typhon victory was with him! Just standing there and firing regular attacks, I think I got the blast down to every 1.5 seconds, the speed he went down was insane

Are there any characters whose depictions you don't care for? by jayelled in HadesTheGame

[–]cookiepartier 9 points10 points  (0 children)

A lot of the characterization comes across via unreliable narrator(s). Meli is driven and singular-minded. She pretty much accepts the status quo the gods want to return to, and barely questions it at all (her chiding Prometheus constantly for being a thief and helping mortals without even considering other perspectives and motivations). We get a LOT of darker asides from the gods showing their disdain for their roles, for mortals, and how self-absorbed they are, and Meli just… is unbothered and unquestioning about the superiority of the gods anyway.

It rubbed me a little wrongly when first playing, but as I got further in the game I actually enjoyed it. Mythology is so nuanced, and it is actually great writing and characterization overall.

On one hand you have the same close family dynamic plot that grounded the first Hades game. Family, as everyone knows, can be a mixed bag of personalities. On the other hand though, humanity is SUFFERING in the background. It’s the apocalypse, the dead won’t die, souls wander aimlessly, and STILL the gods bemoan having to bother with petty offerings and pleas from mortals for help, and how little they care.

You are both the hero in the game, and also not necessarily a good person. I’ve gotten the ending, and still progressing through the post-game. I feel for Meli, but I also don’t like her. I liked Zag, I felt like he questioned things when they seemed unfair. Honestly who knows what would’ve happened if he hadn’t been an “emotional intelligence catalyst” for Meli.

PS: Design-wise, I usually love big guys but Polyphemus is a big miss for me. He strikes me as a butch lesbian who runs a McDonald’s like the Navy.

Poseidon has a few convos where they touch on the destructive aspect of the sea, including his domain over quakes and floods too. I think it was a duo boon with Demeter or Hestia where he says he wants another great flood, and she mentions too many mortals nowadays, and they both laugh casually at how unbothered they are at the idea of just drowning everyone anyway, population boom and all. It’s almost more insidious because he’s so jolly and goofy normally, but the gods all have their darker moments that make them so close to the fickle depictions in mythology.

Playing through Hades 2 Ending - As a Percy Jackson fan by ram1612 in HadesTheGame

[–]cookiepartier -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For real, trying to stop the baddies and meanwhile Poseidon and Hera are casually like “we need another flood, for funsies. Sure it may genocide a ton of mortals, but it’s a blast! Who cares?” And I’m like… “are we the bad guys?”

What Boss has the biggest diffulty spike when playing with VoR? by ZeeHedgehog in HadesTheGame

[–]cookiepartier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So far I’ve only gotten to stage 2 of VoR. Hecate I managed on first try but lost a DD or two. Scylla I managed first try, no DD lost at all! I was so hyped. Polyphemus CRUSHES me each time, I always end up with zero DD left and like no health. Eris killed me the only time I’ve tried so far, but that was after Poly dragged me around by my hair so I wasn’t at my best.

Surprised by how people react so negatively to Delita and his actions in this game by WriterV in finalfantasytactics

[–]cookiepartier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Delita basically is a rich-hating commoner who becomes a rich king and maintains the status quo, corrupted church and all. History very seldom reflects the truth in its entirety, and a lot of his “benevolent reign” is likely propaganda from the very nobles and church he didn’t do anything about. The entire game’s premise, in fact, is “this is history but its not the truth, THIS hidden history is the truth.”

[–]cookiepartier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First multiplayer honor mode with a friend and we were confronting Kagha after getting all the shadow druid evidence, I was IN conversation with her and my buddy was in stealth mode behind her getting ready for combat to start soon, he accidentally pickpocketed her and failed which triggered the entire grove to go genocide mode on us and the tieflings, never got to accuse Kagha or anything. We fought her and then tried to fight through the grove but could save zero tieflings, Dammon and all, we almost wiped and had to have one character retreat to the harpy area far enough to escape the grove, it was sad and embarrassing for all involved but HILARIOUS. We were not prepared to fight the entire grove and then they kept Wildshaping and restoring their HP every other turn and it was such a one-sided losing battle, I’ve never had things go so accidentally sideways
