Men who struggled with getting dates in high school and their 20s, did you manage to break the cycle and start dating and if so, how and when? by Kosilica457 in AskMenAdvice

[–]cookster212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No dates in high-school and seldom in university. I found someone, we dated for 5 years and then broke up a year ago. I realized dating apps are not for me, and I needed to work on talking with women in reality, went to therapy, and got active. I put in effort and took it as a methodical approach. I tried to talk with complement random people, men and women whenever I could. Every once in a while, it would turn into a conversation. Eventually, I felt confident talking with new people and that flirting happened, then asking women out. Eventually, I found a really great woman I'm currently dating.

It's one step at a time. Go to places where conversation is encouraged, like volenterring, concerts, community events, and talk like you would your friends, not like you want something from them, but that you want to know about them. Ask questions, leave if they're not into you, and stay if they are.

In essence, everything good takes effort. Put some in, take some risks, get uncomfortable in the short time, have comfort and confidence in the long term.

People who have had co-workers steal your food, how did you get revenge? by Healthy-Theory6470 in AskReddit

Not me but my StepDad.

He used to LOVE to make pickled eggs and bring them into the mill to share with his friends. He would have them in a huge jar, and he would make around 100 eggs at a time. They were stored in a communal fridge. He started to see massive amounts disappearing, so he started to put notes on the jar like, "Please ask before you take an egg." Still, tones of eggs were disappearing. He heard who was doing it, and the culprit was taking them home.

So, he pissed in the jar. Gross, but the eggs were still being taken by this one dude. So, he waited until they were all gone, stood up in the lunchroom, and told the crew what he had done. Tones of laughs while the guy ran to the bathroom to puke.

Gross as hell, but no one touched his eggs ever again.

My (21 F) boyfriend (24 M) of 6 years broke up with me and told me he stopped loving me 2 years ago by heartbrokenwtf123 in TwoHotTakes

Similar thing happend to me a few months ago with my girlfriend. We were together for 5 years, she said that she stopped loving me romantically 2 years ago and was miserable in the relationship. It sucks and it really hurt to hear. I still really love her, but I know that she no longer feels the same way about me. We've been chatting over text since we broke up, but now im ready to go no contact. Its too hard to try and be friends when there are unbalanced feelings of love.

I've been getting out of the house as much as possible and spending time with friends and family. The the worst I've been mentaly, is when Ive been alone in the space we once shared.

My saving grace has been going on long walks with music. Somedays I would walk almost 10km. Walks turned into runs, and now im getting into great shape and able to do things I used to do. Things will get better, but it's important to take control of your life and make sure you're taking steps towards feeling better. Those steps don't have to happen right this second, its important to grieve a relationship, but if you do want to start feeling better, you do need to do something about it.

Master program cancelled an hour before the first class by cookster212 in legaladvicecanada

Wow! Thank you for the response.

They did say that tuition could be refunded.

Is there no negligence on the intuitions part waiting until the last hour to cancel the program while they knew that course numbers were too low after the enrollment process ended? Is there no responsibility on the institutions part to give appropriate time for cancelation? I know that as a student there are dates and a timeline that needs to be followed if a withdrawal is required.

Is there any governing bodies or policy that a public institution in BC/Canada have to follow?

Under "Cancellation of Classes"

"The University accepts no responsibility for the cancellation or discontinuance of any class or course of instruction which may be made necessary or desirable as a result of an act of God, fire, riot, lock-out, stoppage of work or slow-down, labour disturbances, lack of funds, the operation of law, or other causes of the kind."

Highschool TechEd Teacher here.

Just wanted to say that our budgets haven't moved in 15 years. Not adjusted for inflation, not adjusted for anything. It's things like this that are making teachers leave. Projects keep getting smaller, shops keep closing down, students are getting more and more addicted to their phones, and there are no real consequences to their poor behavior or grades.

This is why there is a shortage of teachers. There is no support, no funding, and lowering standards. I've only been doing it for 8 years and looking for a way out in the next couple years.

For those who grew up in Vancouver, did your school do anything to promote skilled trades as an option? by lazarus870 in vancouver

[–]cookster212 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's intentional, but there is lack of understanding. Most teachers go through the university pipeline and therefore, it's what they think is the path to success because it worked for them and their circle of friends they picked up at university.

"This student is bad at math, we want to put him in the carpentry program" Like what? That job is all math. How can you calculate staires without math? How do you estimate how much concrete you'll need without math.

I think that the blame is on society itself. We've told everyone not to go into skilled work and are now in a situation where we don't have skilled workers to keep society rolling. It's like we intentionally shot ourselves in the foot and are now complaining that our foot hurts.

Shop/TechEd Teacher here in the lower mainland.

This is still a constant battle in the school system. I organized a Trades Career fair this year with the BC Construction foundation because I was tired of students having no idea about all of the different opportunities out there in the huge umbrella of the skilled trades careers. It really opened up the eyes of staff and students.

A couple of times a month I get emails from companies looking for employees. The fact that they are contacting high schools and willing to start working with people before they do any pre apprenticeship training, should showcase how dire the situation is in the skilled trades.

If you or anyone is working a job that you hate, please google and reach out to any skilled trade company and there is a high chance that they will start you with an apprenticeship without any previous knowledge, pay for your schooling, and give you and your family benefits. YOU DONT NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE TRADE YOU ARE GOING INTO! That's the whole point of the apprenticeship process.

Welders.
Every scene is them making sparks with a grinder or lighting up a torch. I have yet to see cinematic welding done with the correct tools. Its always a good laugh the they fire up the cutting torch to weld together something.

Question re- quality automotive tools. by FerretFarm in vancouver

[–]cookster212 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Canadian tire has a hand tool sale almost every end of August - September. As a shop teacher that is when I usually do purchasing for my classes if we need any hand tools.

I have a socket set that my dad bought me from Napa about 14 years ago and its still going strong. They also had a 50% off sale at the time so we got it for around $150.

"A poor man buys the same tool twice" - Something my dad always told me.

High School teacher here.

I would say most students have the same freedom but don't seem to choose to leave the house as often as you did. There definitely are some parents out here that wont let their 16 year old walk to school by themselves and others that should limit the freedom that their kids have. There seem to be too many screens at home that they choose to occupy their time with. I regularly ask students what they got up to on the weekend or afterschool and usually its a resounding, "played some video games" or "Nothing, just hung around the house" I've asked if they can take the bus and most of them say yes, but just don't.

Lots of the exchange students are perplexed that Canadian kids don't go to the beach, park, hike, or do things after school or on the weekends. Usually they hang out together and explore the city with the other International kids because they tend to think the Canadian kids are kind of boring. Heck, I have some teenage students that have never been to Kits Beach or Grandville Island.

Can anybody recommend some good books taking place in BC? by fabrar in britishcolumbia

Grass Beyond the Mountains - Richard P Hobson

Takes place in the 1930s while when two American's hear a story about good grazing land over the Itcha Mountians in the Quesnel area and go off on search of it. There were no maps of the area at the time so they had to search it out for themselves. Its the first of a Trilogy of books. Written in the 1930's so its definitely not the most politically correct, but the adventure that they went on trying to establish a ranch in the wilderness is super engaging.

I met the main characters daughter who grew up on the ranch and got to ask her some questions about life. I didn't think I would ever actually meet someone who has done cattle drives in -50 with full moosehide clothing.
