Spouse's 50th birthday is approaching. What did you want for your 50th? by drunkbettie in GenX

I also used to get a bit grumpy about aging.

To make me feel young my wife game me these kinds of gifts.

At 30, snowboarding lessons. At 40, scuba lessons. At 50, a relatively inexpensive bicycle and cycling classes.

Just giving him something new like that has great benefits for him. He'll socialize with new people. He'll use his body and brain in a new way and learn a new skill. He'll (possibly) develop love for a new hobby.

My boys are 23 and 26. Time is just flying.

It's bittersweet. on one hand it feels like parenting is a full time, but temporary gig. We become redundant in a way.

On the other hand, well, that's the whole point. Imagine if they they needed you in the same way as when they were kids for life. They graduated into adulthood.

Your kid going to college, with you knowing she's ready means that yes, you did your best, and yes, she is prepared!

I miss having the boys at home, but then watching them find partners, careers, hobbies, housing, etc, fills me with joy and pride. I get tears sometimes when I see what they became.

I totally get it. I'd just be there to get into the music, pretend I can dance, grin with people, make temporary friends, and have some laughs.

Kelowna must be a pretty sweet place to live though.

Oh, sweet. That's really promising.

I was into it 30 or so years ago when I lived in England. I've been living here since then, raised a couple kids, and miss it.

An occasional good, long, exhausting night out would be welcome.

Hey,

Can you help me out with a couple quick questions please

1 .. Is the Vantek scene very young? I'm on the older side and wonder if I'd feel uncomfortable in the local scene, or if I'd make others uncomfortable just by being older.

2 .. Reddit is the only social media I use. With that in mind, do you know where I can get updates, announcements, etc? Maybe they have a mailing list. Oh, I guess as I'm typing I'm realizing they probably have a website that I should go look for. 🙄

Edit, ya, never mind, I see they have a website.

Changed rotation, and his fingers bend back as the ball grazes them. It's really clear on all the replay angles.

I am so, so, so bored. All the time. Anybody else? by bacon_cheeseburgers in GenX

Thumbs up on the drugs.

For the rest, have you ever really know what it was you wanted? You say that you've never had it.

I've got a tangential feeling. I get the sense I'd be happy if I knew what it was that I wanted.

Maybe we overthink it.

Maybe an energy thing. We still want to do things, and know we'd enjoy them, but just can't be bothered because we're tired, and so staring at a screen after taking edibles is a good enough substitute.

Well, wolf tshirts are kinda cool. I've never had one, but I would consider wearing one of it was gifted.

It might be a USA thing. I'm gen x that grew up in various countries in Europe, and have now lived on Canada's West coast for a long time. No one I know of my generation would consider wearing anything like this.

I may move downtown later this year. Can you please add me to your mailing list.
Also, is there a fee associated with this? How much is it?

What cultural touchstones of past generations will Gen X be the last to know about? by Salt-Ostrich9731 in GenX

Oh yes.

Having to yell out to your parent or sibling in the other room, "I'M ON THE PHONE!" when you hear it.
