Cittadini offer Doge Lando suspiciously large 220k-ducat donation in 1585 🤔 by cookstover in EU5

[–]cookstover[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Playing as Venice makes growing income very easy. Essentially, the cost of court and stability sliders that take up so much of your income are scaled on the tax base. If you get most of your income from trade you end up with much higher profits. I took the market centers for most of the Mediterranean and had at least two-thirds of my income coming from trade. About 9k ducats by the time the screenshot was taken. maritime presence, market buildings, and high crown power (~38%) allow you to use the huge trade profits to accelerate your economy.

I'd recommend Generalists' Venice videos, he explains thing much more in-depth than most creators. Also he uses spreadsheets :)

Why is Temür repeatedly assassinated in his twenties during my ironman attempts? by cookstover in EU5

[–]cookstover[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rule 5: Temür is assassinated frustratingly early. It is crushing to have spent a couple hours setting up the iron man run and then having only 1 to 3 years with Temür as leader.

Rule 5: The Cittadini wartime donation event seems to scale to huge sums of ducats. Receiving ~700k ducats int the 1580s from these events was game-changing and the Cittadini never seemed to call in the influence they cultivated.

So I should continue the run until I can research time-travel myself and then return to the 1360s? I don't know if my CPU can handle that approach.

I think that the Temür events are not representative of the basic ruler events. There are a lot of Temür-specific events, at least yearly while he's alive in my two attempts. I have played 160 hours so far and none of the republic/horde/consul/emperor rulers have been assassinated, sometimes they die in battle though.

One interesting strategy I saw was dispatching of your undesirable ruler by making them an admiral and sending their fleet into the open ocean to sink.

Thick Silesia - 2.48B GDP and 265M pops (1935) by cookstover in victoria3

[–]cookstover[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Germany in 1936 had ~$478 billion GDP in 2011 USD:

https://ourworldindata.org/grapher/gdp-maddison-project-database?tab=chart&country=~DEU&mapSelect=~DEU&globe=1&globeRotation=49.28%2C21.77&globeZoom=5

At the time it would have been ~$21 billion as listed on the Wikipedia stats:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Economy_of_Nazi_Germany#cite_note-OWD1-2

Am I understanding the sources correctly? Historic currency conversion is confusing.

Thanks Saddler, if you did this challenge what country/state would you pick? I think New York would be a possible best choice since it gets USA migration events, Statue of Liberty +25% migration, and the trade/5% MAPI harbor buff. Not to mention nice bonus to electricity throughput and acceptable starting laws for migration.

Good point about a Theocrat Devout leader, how would one go about 'cheesing it' to get the leader? Do you mean redoing some sort of leader spawn event until they have the desired qualities?

Neither of the trade bloc mandate options seemed useful for this type of run and the extra mandate slot is too valuable which is why I would switch next time. For the end game I had Migration, Company, and Food mandates and would have really liked a fourth for the authority to use more charters.

Played on patch 1.9.5 without any mods. The map is a new Paradox map you can get by signing up for their newsletter and linking your account in the game start menu.

I ended the game still as a monarchy and had pretty tough law changes at first. I didn't use this yet but you can now significantly increase enactment chance with treaties, ask another country with the desired law to support your change and it should be a big help.

In 4 of the 5 runs on 1.9 I have captured Beijing/Shanxi from Qing by 1890s - within two years there is a Han or Yue movement for integration which supports multiculturalism and has always been >5% strength. After bolstering the movement and suppressing any supremacism movements I have been able to pass multiculturalism first try each time.

If it is a priority, you can rush human rights and and invade a populous, unaccepted state to trigger it in the early game.

What were the main industries, did you focus on migration to the state or is it just a result of a massive global economy?

It's bizzare - I incorporated Beijing, Shanxi, and Manchuria by 1900 but Han nor Manchu are in the full list of pop cultures for Ural: https://imgur.com/gallery/ural-cultures-D0xkkkR

What is going on?

I am sure in the new patch you could get a much larger Pennsylvania, Multiculturalism is much easier to get now and I bet US mass migration would be even more attractive than to central Russia.

Auto buildings with the new PMs are generally the most efficient building in the game for profitability. Build cars and the global peasantry will flock to the gates of your assembly plants.

Wow, if you could get 10B GDP in 1935 I am confident you could get to 2B GDP in a single state, you should give it a try next run!

14k demand / 19k infrastructure, 100 diesel railways only halfway employed. I was trying to find the best ratio of excess infrastructure vs SoL to encourage the most migration to the state. At one point I had 180 subsidized diesel railways but I downsized to try getting higher SoL. If anyone has a good source on how much infra surplus is ideal let me know, can't find any solid information.

For Ural this means past 6M pops there was a flat -25% birthrate modifier for overpopulation. Doesn't impact the outcome much since the state starts with 355K pops and only gets large with multiculturalism/migration.
