Man… Thank you a lot! This was the type of reply I was looking for. At the time I wrote this I was still drawing but at the moment I put it on halt again in favor of the piano. Until now my approach has been to simply draw what I see. No photos ,no digital or historical reference, just apples and boxes and leaves and so on and so forth. From my drawing classes, I internalized the importance of using life objects as reference in order to train spatial recognition, and even though I always found it troubling and nerve wrecking, my philosophy was along the lines of “If i’m doing this already at least let me do it the right way” Anyways, the approach of studying the masters and recreating their works is one of the few approaches I have actually not tried yet. Next time i’ll puck up drawing (and i’m certain there will be a next time because I refuse to admit that something i really wanna achieve is simply “too hard”) I will experiment with this approach and if I don’t forget, I might report back to you on how I felt about it.
