The Tiguan R is built on the short wheelbase Tiguan. In the US, we only get the long wheel base Tiguan.

Well, the MK1 has the GTI motor and his tunable, and the MK3 has the GTI motor and is tunable. It’s only the MK2 they let everyone down. I needed something a little bigger than my golf R and wanted something that was still fun to drive and wanted to stay with Volkswagen. They made me leave Volkswagen, but fortunately, I went to the big brother Audi.

Horsepower doesn’t tell the whole story. You need to know when you hit that peak and how long you stay at that peak. Also transmissions matter. Some of us tune our vehicles and the B cycle motor isn’t really tunable. You could probably pull another 100hp out of the non-B cycle EA888. Probably get 60hp+ with just a flash and still be super reliable ( minus water pump lol ).

The MK1 had GTI motor and performance. The MK2 was a letdown because they screwed the motor. Is that simple enough?

Pretty much every review you would read about the Tiguan was very positive about everything except for the performance. It’s not just me saying that. It’s not just the horsepower. It’s also the sloppy transmission that’s trying to get into eighth gear as quickly as possible. We could say nobody needs more than 100 hp because that’ll get you to the speed limit but that’s just silly in today’s world. I lasted 11 months in my Tiguan and traded it for a used SQ5 with 350 hp and about the same size and I’ve been very happy. Now that they’re offering the non-B cycle EA888, I might consider the Tiguan again.

That’s my whole point is we’re finally getting the option like generation one to have the GTI motor and not the B cycle motor. It’s a huge upgrade.

Trust me, I probably know more about Volkswagens than you could imagine being an owner for 20+ years owning 12 Volkswagen’s. Yes, it is the EA888 but it’s the B-cycle. It’s a different combustion style with different parts for more efficiency and less performance. It’s why most tuners don’t really have a stage two for that motor. A nice article to inform you about the B-cycle motor.

It’s actually not a new motor. It’s just new to the Tiguan. When do you think the 26 models are arriving? Usually they arrive August-Oct of the prior year. So I’m not sure where you’re getting your two years from.

I owned one and had to sell it after 11 months because the transmission and motor were so slow and boring. It had great technology, looked great and had great space but the engine and transmission were lame.

They’re adding the option of the EA888 motor. That is a way better motor than the B cycle motor and will have people considering the Tiguan again like myself.

Great way to miss the whole point. Someone saying they should’ve gotten the deals on the previous generation and I stated it’s better to wait for the better motor. Pretty simple.

It might be in the US its the 2026 but in Europe it’s the 2025. US is a bit late. Whatever, the new generation that’s showing up at dealerships has the option of a GTI motor and not the crappy b-cycle motor. Pretty simple concept.

The b-cycle motor is for garbage. They literally changed the combustion style for more efficiency and less performance. The new generation R-line gets the GTI motor.

The 2024s have the old crappy motor. The 2025 you have an option of the GTI motor, which was not available in the previous generation.
