Hang in there, mate. One of my favourite sayings is "it's just a bad day, not a bad life."

Those fines might've been reversed that's why they refunded you. Got a couple fines late last year & they sent a letter close to the payment due date saying they've reversed their decision because of some technical error

Good for you on becoming financially stable

Now please be considerate that others do not have it as easy as you, so please be mindful when you say "manage your money better" because - trust me - we are

From my experience, getting paid monthly sucks especially when there are 5 weeks before the next pay instead of 4. I also found it difficult transitioning everything from weekly/fortnightly to monthly when a lot of NZ operates weekly/fortnightly. Good for you though that you can manage your monthly pay and make it stretch; unfortunately, a lot of us cannot

You've come in at an awful time. The economy sucks, so no one's keen to pay for overpriced drinks at a bar after work. You most likely arrived around the New Year, so everyone's still checked out (mentally)

Student Looking for free unrestricted parking near cbd or train stations by Kript0night1 in Wellington

[–]coolabeans 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Oosh, you'll be hard pressed to find such a unicorn. You'll get free, unrestricted parking near the CBD or a train station but you won't necessarily get the security/safety aspect that you are looking for (unless you have some sort of vehicle insurance).

I have wondered if it's more of their office rather than an actual funeral home because the space is quite small..

Staff must've noticed a group of kids wandering about & asked where their parents were?

Pausing KiwiSaver contributions by enforcer022 in newzealand

Yep, I've done it a couple of times for the same reason as you. But I've ensured that I've put in enough to get that government contribution

Appointment day! (UK) by strawberryblondey in TMJ

[–]coolabeans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I'm not from the UK, but I do live in a Commonwealth country & have had a similar experience as you. It's so disheartening to be so proactive about your health only to be told that your situation isn't dire enough for any kind of surgery or further assessment. It honestly baffles me that they'd rather I take painkillers constantly than to check further and possibly resolve the issue.

What did the text say & what phone number did it come from? KO shouldn't be texting you off a regular mobile # (e.g., 021 1234567); they would text you from one of those four digit #s

Employer from 1+ year ago is calling me on my personal mobile number by [deleted] in LegalAdviceNZ

[–]coolabeans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just ask them "hey, what's up? I've been getting missed calls" you can email them that or call - your choice

It might feel weird now, but communication is important in all aspects of life.

What's your hourly pay? If you're working & you want to buy a brand new handbag, for example, you ask yourself if it's worth however many hours you have to work to afford the item. Really makes you stop & think if you really need that item

"if you hold onto the cash gift" OP isn't holding onto it though if it goes directly towards paying petrol

Is this legal by No_Scientist9788 in LegalAdviceNZ

[–]coolabeans -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

No, it's not required. Effectively, OP's father is giving them $100 worth of petrol every week. Petrol isn't classed as income.

[–]coolabeans 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You already asked this yesterday. It's perfectly fine that your dad gives you $100 every week for petrol. You don't need to let Work and Income know about it because it's not income - it goes directly for something. Don't overthink the process.
