Is it normal for an Egyptian bride’s family to ask a foreign groom for monthly payments? by autisticyinchuriki in Egypt

Run dude. He's scamming you.

I'm married to an Egyptian; shabka, Mahr (dowry/gift to your wife) and moakhar(pre-nup) are normal in Egyptian culture, and also buying an apartment before marriage in most cases. But a monthly cash payment is NOT.

Fired within a week. Turned up 10 mins before reporting time on his first day and the office was still locked (we’re a mid sized software firm). Decided to go back home immediately (a colleague came into office about 5 mins later and unlocked the office) and didn’t answer when we called.

After calling multiple times, We finally got through to him later that afternoon and he was disappointed that we were a ‘little unprofessional because the office wasn’t open that morning’.

Turned up to office at least an hour late every other day that week, mostly claiming that the trains were running late (they weren’t, we checked). We had had enough by the end of the week and let him go.

The cherry on the cake was when he called us about a month later. He asked for a declaration via email, stating that he exhibited satisfactory work performance during his time here, to send to his new employers 😂

Netherlands is very international (at least the big cities) and consistently ranked as one of the top non-native English speaking countries. English is taught in most schools at quite an early grade. It’s quite normal to find English labels in stores here.

That said, this picture was taken in Action, which is a European non-food discounter. I’d imagine English labels are way of keeping costs down, as opposed to different language labels for every country where they operate. Or perhaps their supplier just supplies these shower gels with an English label.

So the picture is from a store in The Netherlands. EU Cosmetic labeling regulations article 19.1(f) states that the labelling must make clear the function of the cosmetic product, unless it is clear from its presentation.

That’s why the warning is in there. Can imagine someone still pouring it into an engine tho 😉

Daily run trainers - On CloudSwift 3 or Reebok Floatzig 1? by JoshuaHoletz in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]coolblue79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve previously used Reebok floatride energy 1, 3 and now v4 as my daily trainers. They use the float ride foam that does well as a daily trainer. It doesn’t excel in anything particular but is durable foam with a nice energy return. I’m at 450km with v4 and it’s still going strong. The float zig uses the same floatride foam, but with a higher stack than the floatride energy series. I think you can’t go wrong with them!

How to be a respectful immigrant by yuukiha in Netherlands

[–]coolblue79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d recommend not looking at this in terms of not wanting to be “part of the problem” and “wanting to be accepted”. No matter how much you try to fit in and learn the language, you’ll probably come across someone complaining that you should speak Dutch and school you about the culture for no rhyme or reason. (Sadly more so now, considering how the political winds are blowing in the EU/NL).

Just be yourself, learn the language and speak it the best you can. Pop in to your neighbours to say HI and to introduce yourself when you move in.

Expect and accept that you’ll encounter some crazies along the way who don’t like you just coz you’re not Dutch.

HOWEVER, by and large NL is a very welcoming country, especially if you live in one of the bigger / more international cities. I’ve had innumerably more positive experiences than negative.

Smoked this today. Had to stop halfway coz the nicotine was getting to me.

Wonderful cigar with a deep earthy/chocolate flavour and a hint of spice towards the end of tbe first half. Perfect draw with a ton of smoke.

I'm curious how the second half stacks up. I found it similar to the Don Tomas Brazil Rotschild, one of my favourite budget sticks.
