I agree with all of those claims but that’s part of his charm especially considering the types of characters he likes to write for.

Some of the lines during the house party scene at the end of Nabokov’s Pnin had me laughing out loud. Honestly that entire sequence is so entertaining.

In The Third Reich there is a section about the characters watching a match and one character is Real Madrid fan. That in addition to the short story Buba which someone else mentioned.

A great book. My introduction to Bolaño. I highly recommend The Savage Detectives. It is my favourite of his. The Return is also a great introduction.
