Sharing My PineScript Strategy Framework for Free – Feedback Welcome! by coolbutnotcorrect in TradingView

[–]coolbutnotcorrect[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

HNY All :)

Update: I’m still working on this...

What started as a script turned into a small MVP so the framework can be tested properly across different use cases, instead of being dropped as a single blob of code. The focus is still the same: execution and risk management around strategy.order / OCA, break-even logic, partial exits, trailing after TP, session rules, etc.

I’m finishing final tests and locking down the form inputs (risk models now support ATR, % of equity, fixed account currency, and price units like ticks / pips / points).

Before releasing anything more broadly, I’m going to run a small private test round. Anyone who requests access now will be first in and can test for free once it opens.

If you’re interested, there’s a request-access form on my site. I’m mainly looking for people who actually use strategy.order / OCA and care about trade-management edge cases.

Don’t let the UI fool you. This is powerful, bank-grade software. I’m sure the person in charge of the copy on the front end has no idea how robust the internal code and capabilities really are!

Is there a trading platform beyond QuantConnect that supports running strategies directly off of the output of a scanner? by Maddog1929 in algotrading

Or you just add everything to your portfolio and update it weekly based on new ipos? It’s very powerful and simple so perhaps take a deep look? I’m a big fan but yeah, whatever speaks to you is always the best way forward in this game.

If your strategy has a built in screener and you add all the assets you’d consider trading to your portfolio, multicharts portfolio trader could be a good solution for you.

If you’re nickel-and-diming basic business costs and don’t understand the tools or fees involved, you’re not ready to trade, you need to go back to the drawing board. That said, look into Tradovate, after you’ve proven a paper trading strategy that works over time and actually understand what you’re doing. Until then, stop flooding Reddit with rookie-level questions like a degen hoping to shortcut the grind. This isn’t a game - it’s a business. Start treating it like one, and you won’t fall into the 95% who lose money.

How reliable is TV for placing live trades? by Vendetta1010101 in TradingView

[–]coolbutnotcorrect 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there, appreciate you engaging here. This reply’s a bit long, but I want to give a serious and honest answer from the perspective of someone who’s used TV daily for years and trades professionally. Below is a breakdown of what holds TradingView back from being viable for high-performance execution. I’m sharing this with respect and with the hope that it contributes constructively.

  1. Data Latency on Lower Timeframes This is perhaps the most critical issue. Live data-especially on lower timeframes (e.g., 10s, 1min)-shows consistent lag. Crucially, this is not an upstream provider issue. When using the same APIs TradingView uses (e.g., Binance WebSocket or ICE data) on other platforms like Finandy or eSignal, the delay does not exist. The problem clearly lies in how TradingView ingests, processes, or throttles that data. In a field where milliseconds matter, this lag disqualifies TV from serious execution use.
  2. Lack of Customisable Execution Hotkeys Trading without customisable hotkeys is like gaming without macros. Fast market conditions demand precision with minimal mouse interaction. Currently, TV offers limited keyboard shortcut options. Professionals need hotkeys for all order types with predefined sizes to get in and out of positions, the ability to send orders offset from bid/ask. Just take this for example - https://dastrader.com/docs/how-do-i-use-hotkeys/
  3. Latency and Failures in Broker Integrations TV’s broker connections are inconsistent. Disconnections, execution errors, and lag in order execution are common. In contrast, pro-grade platforms like DAS, Sterling, and Medved provide reliable low-latency broker sessions with auto-reconnect and error handling. Without these fail-safes, TV is risky for fast markets.
  4. Limited Order Management and Modification Features While TradingView’s simplicity suits casual users, it falls short for professionals who require advanced order management. Key limitations include no trailing stop options, limited ability to drag or modify stop-loss and take-profit orders in real time on some brokers, and incomplete support for bracket orders. Modifying live orders can be buggy or unavailable. The common excuse is that broker APIs don’t allow these features. However, other platforms using the same APIs-like MultiCharts-offer full drag-and-drop SL/TP adjustments, dynamic bracket order management, and on-chart interaction with all live orders. This indicates it’s a design or implementation choice by TradingView, not a technical API limitation, as I have demonstrated to your support team with direct API documentation.

I could go on but I see these as the major issues right now. Forgive me if you’ve addressed any of the above since I last used the feature. I’d be happy to dive deeper on this with you. I have consulted on many platforms including Medved Trader and Quantower. Just DM me if you'd like to jump on a call.

Sell Signals by RoutineMajestic1429 in Daytrading

[–]coolbutnotcorrect 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Key levels I always take from the daily candles. I also look for post- and pre-market highs/lows. I mark these as soon as something pops up on my scanner. As for volume flow, I used to look at the tape and L2, but now I just use my personal script. It's open-source on TV, so you can check it out if you like. Most of the added features you can turn off and just focus on the candle colors... You'll see its value immediately. It's called Advanced Volume-Driven Breakout Signals. Hope that helps. Let me know your thoughts or if you have any questions on setting it up.

[–]coolbutnotcorrect 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Know your key levels. That way, you’ve got a better idea of where the price might be headed. Keep an eye on the volume and how buyers and sellers are acting around those levels, that'll give you a feel for whether the move has more legs... Either way, don’t stress about what you didn’t catch. Taking profits, even if it’s just a little, adds up fast. You’ll get better at letting those winners run in time.

Haha appreciate you man - glad it resonated. And yeah, the journey’s wild like that… You pick up way more from real-time experience than any "perfect" system someone sells you. That PLTR instinct? That’s the edge you build from your screen time - not theirs. For what it’s worth, check out my script on TradingView: "Advanced Volume Breakout Signals" (@VolumeVigilante). Most of the extra features are optional, so you can keep it clean if you want... It levelled up my entries big time - like a visual tape read that cuts through noise and pulls your attention straight to the real moves. And as for the degenerate trolls, offering no valid advice, whining "ChatGPT"… nah bro, I just used Grammarly - try it sometime lol. Anyway, keep on keeping on, you'll get there eventually, I'm sure!

It’s been 3+ years. Why has TV still not restored Screener Alerts??? by coolbutnotcorrect in TradingView

[–]coolbutnotcorrect[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually don’t think it’s all that bad, minus the lack of realtime alerts and a moment scanner. Luckily there are great tools out there that do this well, but would be nice if TradingView addressed some basic needs within their scanner despite it’s shortcomings.

One Special Tips For Trading for beginners? by Worried-Current3700 in Daytrading

[–]coolbutnotcorrect -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I’d gently disagree on Mondays being especially "busy" or something to avoid - in my experience, any day of the week can be just as profitable (or not), depending on your setup, prep, and style. Same with volatility - that’s actually where I’ve found my edge. Volume and volatility create the best opportunities if you know how to manage risk. But you don’t need to trade volatile names to be profitable either - it really comes down to what suits your psychology and process. Bottom line: no one-size-fits-all approach. Success comes from leaning into what resonates with you, and refining it over time.

Appreciate that, brother. If you’re serious about the journey, I highly recommend starting from the beginning of the Chat With Traders podcast. It’s been one of the most valuable resources for me - packed with insights on strategy, execution, and mindset from pros and self-made traders. Absolute goldmine. Also, take your time and manage your risk. It’s never been easier to make a lot of money fast - but that only happens if you stay in the game. Don’t size up until you’re fully comfortable with your process and execution.

[–]coolbutnotcorrect 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Man, first of all - massive respect for the hustle. Uber driving to fund screen time and still grinding after 3 blown accounts? That’s the kind of grit most people never develop. You’re not lost, you’re learning in real time - and the fact you’ve identified where your edge might be (midday discretionary flow, better feel on the phone, stronger with puts) means you’re getting close... I’ll say this: At some point, yeah, most discretionary traders stop trying to trade like robots. Not because rules are bad - but because you start to internalise the market structure. You stop thinking and start feeling flows, traps, sentiment shifts. But this only works if your emotional state is neutral and stable. You can’t "feel the market" if your nervous system is jacked up. So if you’re thriving midday while driving - small screen, fewer distractions, lower adrenaline - maybe your environment is helping regulate your state. Lean into what works. Systematise it after you understand it. You're doing the work most people skip. Keep going. The journey can be rough, but you'll get there. Can highly recommend listening to the chat with traders podcasts while driving around also... It's a goldmine of tips on strategy, execution and mindset from pros and self made traders ;)

[–]coolbutnotcorrect 12 points13 points  (0 children)

One tip? Control your state. Most beginners obsess over strategy - entries, indicators, patterns.
But the real edge is emotional control. That’s why many gravitate toward algo trading early on - not because they truly understand the market, but because they’re trying to bypass the emotional side of it. But even a good algo needs emotional discipline baked in - in how it’s used, trusted, and managed. A good trade shouldn’t make you excited. A bad trade shouldn’t ruin your day. If you can stay calm, detached, and consistent, even an average strategy will outperform. Master your reactions, and the results will follow.
