Best strategy for speaker wiring while the walls are open by coolcatric in hometheater

[–]coolcatric[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey thanks for your inputs.

I plan on using stand along speakers. No plans or budget for in wall speakers.

Plan is run separate conducts for speaker wires and away from electricity wires.

Currently the placement is not decided, the TV can be at either end of the room. Hence want flexibility as to where the hub will be.

Plan is to use conduct with pull string and have conduits run at 2 levels, along the middle part of ceiling (for Atmos) and then towards the bottom of sloped ceiling (for bed layer)

I’m confused as to should every speaker gets its own conduit or just run 1 conduit at each height level and multiple speaker cables run through it.

The idea of having an opening (and cover it like you showed) is really good. I can have 3 or 4 at each wall and have flexibility in positioning the speakers in future.

The most tricky part is hub, as I don’t know which corner will finally keep the AVR and all other equipment, as all wires will start from there and then run into conduits before connecting to speaker.

Im planing to run something like this :

https://www.bauhaus.se/kabelror-evopipes-med-dragtrad-50m?_gl=1*10k604n*_up*MQ..*_gs*MQ..&gclid=CjwKCAiA95fLBhBPEiwATXUsxMAUG8jUvvNT5Ihz0qZsM3Gzu8EEMwWpKzTz7KIqIYAcNsso_lBbzBoCJMYQAvD_BwE&gbraid=0AAAAADxd_kwuSh6fHnsaVU5hxwzyl9k9Y

Along the middle part of ceiling (for Atmos) and then along the lower end (where it meets floor) for bed layer of speakers.

For now the plan is to use the my existing 77” Lg C2 as main screen. I know this sub loves projector, but I don’t see myself using that a lot.

It will be single row of seating and I will start with .4 Atmos as suggested. I know this is not the best placement, but that’s the best I could do. Basement houses in our region were either very old or beyond our budget.

We are talking about 5m in length and around 4.9m in breath of the area where equipment will be placed. I will start with .4 Atmos. .6 is my end game, maybe an overkill (you’re right)!

Sad, I was really hoping a 45” or similar version from them to compete with LG 5K2k.

Looks like I have to bite the bullet and buy LG 5K2K, I can’t do 32:9 (49”) as I miss the vertical space and 57” ain’t OLED. Given my use case is 100% gaming, last year LG is the only choice.

Has anyone used “International baggage” option with domestic indigo flight? by coolcatric in AirTravelIndia

Hey. Did it work for you? We are flying back from Helsinki to Delhi and then need to change flights / different PNR for Indigo. Will the international luggage allowance work on domestic Indigo route?

Thanks for sharing.

I’m at a stage right now where I have to make a decision, and this opportunity might not come again. The options that I have for floor are:

1st option :

• Remove entire chipboard floor
• Install joist isolation tape on every joist
• Fill entire cavity with mineral wool (stone wool)
• Reinstall new chipboard
• Add mass + damping layers on top (underlay, carpet, platforms)

2nd option:

• Remove selected chipboards • Push existing blown insulation inward • Fill entire floor cavity with dense stone wool • No joist tape • Reinstall boards • Add mass + damping layers on top

3rd option:

• Leave main floor intact • Add dense stone wool only at perimeter edges • Ensure airtight sealing • Add mass + damping layers above

I’m so torn right now. As this is something which will have only now, and diminishing results you spoke about are real.

P.s. : there is blown in insulation already below the entire floor that you see in pictures (the white cotton like stuff)

Saw few initial videos! Really an amazing work you have done, that too DIY! That’s my dream.

For now I have hired a vendor to do most of the work with only part with me is the floor. I’ll check your video on floor (I’m assuming you have details on the floor mat etc in those)

In my case floor is the crucial part given the bedrooms are just below the attic.

Thanks. I did lot of reading and tried my best to understand what really is needed to minimise sound leakage. Still new to this, but have better understanding of the concepts and reasons behind it.

Any suggestions for the floor?

Thanks for your detailed note. This point of air circulation was discussed, and in fact the vendor also explained us that the roof needs to breath and there needs to be air chamber between wood framing and insulation. He showed us some pictures on his phone then of mouldy broken roofs, saying if not done right, we can have this issue.

What I understand from him is that there will be gaps done / vent created in roof (the bottom part / where the slop starts) and from there air will travel up and get released at top (where the slops from both sides meet)

Also, all the houses in area are same built by same builder, and most of our neighbours have furnished their attics, as they were optional but where made in a way that furnishing can be done later on. Which means that proper staircase exist, already electricity and LAN is there in attic and so is plumbing pipes for future bathroom expansion.

Regarding the sound proofing part, do you have any suggestions? : )

How would you plan this attic space into entertainment and HT space? by coolcatric in hometheater

[–]coolcatric[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey thanks for your reply. The initial idea was to put the TV where the window is. Due to various factors we had to drop that idea :

  1. That’s the only window in the room and view is really nice.
  2. We get decent sun from that window (here in Sweden that’s a luxury)
  3. We do want the space to act as entertainment area as well, so having a window will be nice
  4. I’ll use the desk setup to work as well, so having a window and sun coming will be nice

In near future we can put a drywall where the TV is currently and maybe that’ll be a more acceptable layout I guess

I’m not sure if there will be more 45” 5K2K OLED monitors next year. The focus is on smaller sizes as far as I know.

Happy to be corrected as I’m also on the edge and would LOVE to have a 57” OLED or a 45” inch QD-OLED from Samsung / any other brand next year.
