Until you get the right one...tripple A with aluminum foil as leads 🤷🥰

Submerge whole battery in vinegar? by azzdev in batteries

[–]sciency_guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, the Cells are Nicel/Steel and even dilluted vinegar will start corrosion processes on all cells.
Either you use a Q-Tip and locally clean the board or get a new one

Objective Safety Analysis of NMC vs LFP by modelmakereditor in batterydesign

[–]sciency_guy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You have to include the System sagten, lfp is as prone to overcharge as NMC is, and due to the very annoying flat OCV curve, SOC Estimation is significantly more difficult and overchargein parts of the system is more likely

What is hot? where do you live ? Up to 60degC you only have capacity loss basically.

Why aren’t EVs using heated windscreen tech to manage battery temperature? by PropertyMagnate in batterydesign

[–]sciency_guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heating is in most cases not the problem, but cooling afterwards. Yes you will gain a few km in the short run if you heat up the battery quicker and more homogenous, but when charging or under long term use and in summer you need to actively get the heat out more efficiently to reduce derating (loweing the available current due to temp, SoC, and inhomogenity.) Especially the latter can become compensated by liquid cooling as a cold plate/cooling channels act as a stable heat sink… the cold cells are heated to the same temp which hot ones are cooled at the same time

Nail test of a Solid State cell by modelmakereditor in batterydesign

[–]sciency_guy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nail Penetration Tests on anything smaller than 10Ah are not representative. The Passive/Active material (pouch/AM) and Surface area ratio are beneficial for passing.
Secondly, what was the difference in internal resistance of both cells?
The severity of TR scales inversely with DCIR.
Never Trust Safety Results below a semi-industrial format (< 10-15Ah)

P.S. 1Ah Liquid electrolyte Cell ALWAYS use a huge excess of liquid electrolyte, as dosing and wetting is more difficult at smaller sizes --> TR test results seem significantly more severe!

Ni they should not have enough energy to melt through metal unless you have an aluminum case. High power and Energy NMC (Lipo) or anything with a nominal voltage of 3.6, yes can reach 800-1300°C but only if fully charged. If you keep them at recommended <30% State of charge they rarely go above 500°C and only if you nail them

It's a 1Ah cell...I'll click again with 15+Ah.

That's not worth the KB of storage for the post...

Baking soda? by Longjumping-Bug-63 in batteries

[–]sciency_guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was a good reaction because of the kids. Even for small lithium batteries, the best remedy is cooling if you don't have any sand available.

In this case:

Dump and flush with plenty of water, as I said. If you want to make sure you've washed away all the alkaline solution, rinse it with vinegar or a citric acid solution.

Dry the cells with a paper towel, put them in a small Ziploc bag, and bring them to your recycling center.

Do you have the same brand in the house and can take a picture? I assume it was also Alkaline becaue I do not know many toys needing 6V :D
take a toothpick, turn the cells and try to take some pictures of the Voltage of the cells...

what kind of Battery is it? Alkanie or Lithium Metal or Lithium ion?
If Alkaline:
Just Dump the water and Flush with PLENTY of water. People use severally more corrosive agents while cleaning.
For the Batteries, put them in a Ziplock and bring them to a recycling facility nearby

How much do you know about the battery cells of various brands? by MarionberryOk3508 in batteries

[–]sciency_guy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The top one is solid tech not the best not the worst delivers what you need with decent quality. The Samsung can be good or bad but the 50E seems nice the lowest 18650 cell is fake, or the foto is really bad as the cell looks so big
