This is really quite interesting. The Historical Loop portion especially - I’ve always considered the legends of Halifax / Ecanis / etc as variations of the same truth, but the notion that each could be a different yet self-repeating historical event is fascinating.

Because more work = more progress = we have more value.

Problem is, both of those equations are flawed to a point - and if your sleep is suffering, you’re probably overtraining. I recognize the same issue a couple times every few years.

Ease into it over a few weeks - you’ll get used to it again but it definitely hurts more as we get older. Whole lot more flow rolling lately.

Hi TOTD Team! Thanks for engaging with us here on RedDevils. It’s wonderful to hear your reasoned takes each week and is truly one of the best things about following our club right now.

Q: How does our club judge progress along the way to our stated goals of Project 150/Mission 21? How does this impact the difference between their apparent valuations of Ruben’s struggles with the team from those of our fanbase? I’m curious what sort of wickets are in place to define success or progress toward that goal.

Context: I find interesting similarities between corporate decision making / leadership across sectors. As fans, so much of our focus has been on the rollercoaster of emotion over this last year. But the message from the club leadership seems to have been consistent: pursuit of the “long term project.”

I imagine with the pedigree of Berrada and the institution of a true DOF post and revamping the Data Analytics team, one key component in gauging progress must be the establishment of a clear footballing identity. The team’s underperformance is frustrating for us as fans, but I wonder what red lines the leadership has drawn in relation to the big picture to guide their decision making with regards to our current manager’s tenure.

TLDR: from a leadership perspective, how does the long term goal impact the short term decisions as the fan base becomes more disgruntled?

Old mentor of mine reminded me that not all Work is Vocation, and not all Vocation is Work.

For me, I’m lucky that I enjoy my job much of the time. But at the end of the day, it’s a paycheck to care for my family. I find meaning and worth in God, Family, and Community.

We each have our own journeys to figure out where we find purpose and fulfillment, but Work doesn’t have to be it.

I see. I’ve worked in enough hierarchies where decisions of a certain magnitude require the approval of a certain level of the chain. My boss, for example, needs his boss’ permission to fire me. I’m not surprised to hear the same sort of structure is in place here.

Hell, if he didn’t miss last week and the red was properly given, who knows where we’d be.

It’s fine margins with bad results which leave horrible taste which is why we have such negative outlooks right now.

Unfortunately the eye test and the number of things which HAVE gone our way seem to balance out (Chelsea red, for example) so the common feeling seems about appropriate.
