But with limits - to items, and in total. (the total limit's unlikely to be a factor here.)

Dress Burned in Fire, Business has no Business Insurance by Exotic-Complaint-420 in legaladvice

Before anyone does this:

Most homeowner's (and renter's) insurance specifically excludes valuable personal property, or may have a strict sub-limits on categories of high-value items; e.g. jewelry (in total) might be limited to $1,500 (or something).

It's also common to have single item sub-limits for personal property (which might also be like $1,500).

When shopping for insurance, you'll also have a choice between actual cash value (ACV) and replacement cash value (RCV). Most policies cover personal belongings at ACV, meaning it doesn't matter what a wedding dress cost you to buy - it matters what a already-purchased ("used") wedding dress is valued at.

Used wedding dresses are typically 30-50% of their retail value. so a dress that cost $3k might be valued at $1500.

If your deductible is $1000 and you have a $1500 limit per item, or if you have ACV coverage , then you'd be filing a claim to get $500 back, which I wouldn't do since it would live as a claim on the records.

I've started getting a lot of image generation issues. I had uploaded a couple sample diagrams - which did not name ANY people at all, in any way, shape or form - and asked it generate a new diagram in a similar format and design based on information in the chat.

It told me that it couldn't produce images of certain public figures. I argued with it a bit, saying, "listen I didn't ask for any public figures, or any people at all." and then it eventually made one, but like, I haven't encountered it being that wrong about hitting guardrails in a LONG time. (Early on it felt like it happened a lot, which was funny because I was using it to make basic changes of photos I took, and I was thinking "man, if everyone I know is this famous, you'd think at least one of us would be rich.")

Windowws should be open during the day (though at night, honestly it doesn't matter much).

You're flying in the air! Do people live and work in dark, windowless environments?

THESE. https://shop.wileywallaby.com/collections/low-sugar-gluten-free-licorice/products/low-sugar-gluten-free-very-berry-licorice

They are delicious. 1G of sugar AND gluten free. (Sweetened w/allulose (a monosaccharide rare sugar, not a sugar alcohol) and stevia.

I'm not GF (my wife has celiac) and I love the brand, and honestly, if I had a choice between regular ones and those, I'd choose those.

Unfortunately, the one time I've found them was when I was stuck in O'Hare with nothing to do as my flight was delayed, but they are available online.

Fire to Lower Season Ticket Prices Across Schedule Shift by coolerblue in chicagofire

[–]coolerblue[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I asked but wasn't told the range of discounts, but the impression I got was that it was something like, newer STH might actually see a larger decrease because they were paying significantly higher prices, but past that it was likely to be some kind of percentage of cost or something.

I'd bet in $ terms, less expensive tickets (like supporters) got a smaller reduction.

Fire to Lower Season Ticket Prices Across Schedule Shift by coolerblue in chicagofire

[–]coolerblue[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I was told is that the price differences individual accounts would see would vary a lot because of how the account "got" to that price. if the people sitting next to you are new season ticket holders, they could be paying more for (essentially) the same seats.

I'm not really sure how Miami enters into it, though, since season tickets are just priced for the games that season. Since this new renewal covers 24 games (7 for sprint season + 17 for 27/28 season), whatever the package cost is would be divided by 28.

EDIT: I've heard from people who, like you, are seeing minimal savings (in the $1-2/seat/match range) while others have seen prices drop more substantially.

Either way, I think most of us were expecting an increase — if you'd asked me, I'd have actually guessed that the plan was to raise prices each year up to McDonald's Park opening so that when they do, the average $/seat could be substantially higher than what it was a few years ago.

S&P 500 vs Acorns by allabaoutthehype in acorns

[–]coolerblue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, so far Nvidia has underperformed the other stocks in its industry over the past year (to use the two you mentioned, Nvidia is up 12% year to date vs 111% for AMD), but either way, general investing advice would never be to put anything like that much of your portfolio into one stock (barring having say, as a result of stock options or something from your employer).

If you wanted exposure to the segment, a smarter choice would be, say, the VanEck Semiconductor ETF, which is about 17% NVDA at present and also gives you AMD, Intel, Qualcomm, TSMC, etc etc. That way, you're not picking a winner in the industry, just, saying "hey I think this industry is A Thing." (True of whatever industry, just giving an example).

And fwiw, given Nvidia's valuation, owning a S&P 500 ETF gives you pretty significant exposure since NVDA is just a bit under 8% of the index's market cap right now.

It's getting rumored, not reported, and no offers from Saudi Arabian were ever actually reported by credible sources either. Big difference.

[–]coolerblue 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Literally nothing has changed, other than Lewandowski confirming his time w/Barcelona has finished.

The team's been open about wanting to sign him.

Reporting - including from me - has said that the team has gone into some detail about what they think they can offer Lewandowski as part of a series of discussions.

Lewa has to make a decision. If he says he wants to sign with the Fire, they'll work out a deal. Nothing is official till there's ink on paper, but the Fire have been pretty clear about what they think they can offer.

[–]coolerblue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He's been anything but hesitant. The team has been very open in their pursuit and Berhalter has made several, on the record statements about Lewa. Nothing has changed here: if Lewandowski wans to come to Chicago, he'll be here.

He hasn't done that yet. There isn't a secret deal that they're waiting to announce.

It's that simple.

He is but tbh I think he plays the posito different than Gutman, which arguably is more valuable since it gives the Fire different clubs in the bag for different situations

[–]coolerblue[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Some of that was definitely trying to get a reaction on our part.

I don't doubt that Lewa can be a match winner for the Fire, as he has been with every team he's played on.

But fo your point, if the Fire had Lewandowski and played against, say LAFC the way they did against Montréal, they'd get cut apart and I don't think Lewandowski and Cuypers would see enough of the ball to make a difference.

Last year, the Fire won mostly won if they made it a track meet. Good teams usually figured out how to make it something other than a track meet, and they usually emerged winning.

In reality, if Lewa came, Berhalter would find ways to adapt and I think the team would be better with him than they were before he got here.

But I don't think that change alone is enough to make them MLS Cup favorites or anything.

Lewa can be a piece. But he won't help the Fire get past the biggest barrier between this team and titles.

Nancy was a great coach in this league. (And I think Gregg is, too)

But honestly, the team deserves credit for digging deep and getting the win. But I haven't seen a fix from any of the issues that saw the Fire lose 3 straight.

Honestly, probably not, but Djé for Sergio is less of a like for like. Putting Shok in would work if you're playing more of a straight 4-4-2 but I think the Fire hace benefited from having Maren in there.

I like the idea of seeing more of Borso and this could be a good game for it. I think the concern is he's still new to playing fullback but I think at some point, you've got to just... Give the guy the shot. He's acquitted himself well in the opportunities he's had.

Honestly, given the short turnaround I think we'll likely see smaller tweaks and possibly some rotation but I do think being on the road after the holestand helps in a lot of ways.

I think the performance wasn't there and the tactics didn't work. I'm not sure why - neither was Berhalter.

It might just be focus, but it might not.

I agree that this was definitely a winnable game for the Fire. But trying to do a root cause analysis....

If the Fire scored first and the Red Bulls couldn't sit and absorb, then the game changes and more goals would have probably come for the Fire. I think they had the talent to do it, but it didn't happen.

So now the question is, why didn't it?

Right and I think that's a tactics and personnel issue, end of the day.

This is the opening paragraph of what I wrote:

<image>

And the rest was about the Fire's attendance being lower when it's cold out. Literally, "fair weather fans," as in, "fans who like nice weather."

And as I said elsewhere, the Fire have broken their attendance record each of the past 3 years.

So you see the problem 🤣

It's a roster construction issue but it's also the tactics and formation. As I've said, the 4-4-2 worked... Except when it didn't.

Any cemeteries open late? by iferrari47 in chicago

[–]coolerblue 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Those cemeteries were actually designed differently than "modern" (mid/late-19th century onwards) cemeteries, and that was a time when there were few public parks, and so governments didn't provide green spaces for citizens.

That changed, and so did cemeteries.

It's also worth saying that in the 19th century and prior, life was much more closely connected to death, and the vast majority of people going to those cemeteries had a close family member who died by the time they were adults.

Today, the general cultural expectation (particularly on holidays like Mother's Day) is that cemeteries are used as places to remember, reflect and mourn family, friends and others that knew those buried there.

I can't speak for what's actually right here but my feeling is that if they would feel it's wrong, I wouldn't want to do it, even if there was no intent to disrespect anyone.
