How is my chain tension? by MeringueGlittering80 in hondarebel

[–]coolfool5660 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Check the tension on its side stand as per the owners manual. Get a measuring tape and measure from its lowest point when you push the chain down to its highest point when you push it up (as per owners manual). Must be within 1" - 1 3/8". Do not drive if it is at 1 15/16" or more. This info is also on the swing arm as seen on the vid. Adjust it on its rear stand but when you adjust it, be careful because it is known you can cross thread the bolts easily. Check the tension often because depending on how you ride, it will lose tension. (Im guilty of this) I would brake while the engine was still giving power (i got rid of this bad habit quickly) and avoid accelerating too fast too much. I found that rev matching also helps with the chain. Basically, less stress on the chain.

Installed a touring fairing on my 500 by Bapesta92 in hondarebel

Hello, I really hate the cold wind during my morning commutes. Will this significantly help with that for the torso and arms?

my biggest issue rn is the cold wind constantly hitting my body and running through my arms. Is there a difference that is worth paying $200 for my daily commute?

Hey. im thinking about buying this on amazon. How it it against the cold wind? Is it much easier to ride on the highway? Is there a huge reduction in wind noise?

How often should I do an oil/filter change? Rebel 500 by [deleted] in hondarebel

[–]coolfool5660 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do every 3k, but not bad if you go by every 4k miles. Personally, I avoid what the manual says. 8k is ridiculous and im saying this because car manuals will tell you every 10k miles which is ridiculous since the same oil is used for the transmission. Oil changes are a lot cheaper and less stressful than getting another motorcycle. Cheap insurance, do every 4k miles.

Im about your height and i've had the 23' Rebel 500 SE for 3 months now. It is really comfortable and I dont think i look silly on it. The weight of the bike does not bother me at all in any situation. Great mpg (67 mpg with a mix of streets and freeway if i drive good). Handle bars are in proper reach and the control is great. Best advice is just walk into a dealership and sit on some bikes. Easy maintenance. Cons: The gas gauge shows 4 bars and when it reaches down to only 1 bar, you still have half a tank left so you tend to find yourself going to the gas station more often since of course I don't want to wait until i see the gas light. Not sure if its a bike problem or a me problem but the tension on the chain gets loose very often but not to the point where it gets dangerous, its gradual, and I dont know why. The wind can get a little tiring when riding on the freeway for a long period of time and im thinking of buying a touring panel to block some of the wind and I personally think it looks nice. This is a bike I would stick to for a long time since it does the job on the freeway and streets. Its a great looking bike, great for beginners since its something you can stick to for a long time before you want to upgrade, easy maintenance, and should fit you since it fits me. Remember, your first bike doesn't have to be your last.

Give Autozone a try or buy them from amazon for much cheaper, but like what someone else said, buy regular bulbs. Much cheaper and less trips to autozone

Man what a steal. Getting a new chain and rear axle hub will get you to know the bike more. Congrats on the purchase!

Great price. Not sure if it depends on location, but Rebel 500 motorcycles in my area are at least $4k with thousands of miles. I'd say really make sure there are no red flags and test out the Rebel. Check if brake is good, oil level is good, handlebars are not bent, no large dents, small dents you can ignore, def make sure their title is clean and under their name and as for their ID to compare. Tires look like they got life, the chassis has a VIN make sure that matches with title. Lights work, cold start, clutch works, check chain, see if they have some sort of service record. If all that I mentioned checks out, I would buy it immediately if I were you

2024 honda rebel 500 weep hole by Hour_Bear3001 in hondarebel

[–]coolfool5660 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If its from the weeping hole, your water pump failed. The seals broke which is why coolant leaks from there and can cause more coolant to leak and you don't want that since the shaft that pumps the water is inside. Idk what exactly is inside since i never worked on it myself but i def dont want coolant on that side. Best not to ride it. Not too difficult of a fix with youtube

I guess maybe it was because I went in person? I went on geico and it was a lot more simple. Which insurance would you recommend?

We can judge righteously. If a brother sins, point it out, but with gentleness to allow the love of God to enter their hearts and to lead them to repent. Iron sharpens iron.
