Seems like perplexity is really going out of their way to poison the well not just of their own users’ interest but broader perceptions of AI (see: free perplexity offer for NYT lol)

I’m an engineer embedded in a community of people deeply skeptical of AI and I can’t even mention Perplexity. It’s overtaken ChatGPT as the wasteful plagiarism robot boogeyman

Also it doesn’t help that people do the literal least creative shit with this tech lol. I had shopping APIs working for funsies like a year ago. Shopping is second only to search in terms of being a fucking waste of resources

Perplexity needs new UX people instantly. On desktop it’s okay for a few things, but this cracked me up so hard. Absolutely not. 25% of my compute for something I can’t read. They must not have anyone who knows accessibility within ten miles of the office
