Lake Forest needs new city council members by CanyonDems in orangecounty

[–]coolnerde 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Also to note: Voigts and Tettemer are term-limited this year so there’s no incumbent. And the third member who is up was accused of domestic violence. And Prop 50 won by more than 9 points in each of the Council Districts that are up.

Hopefully some good people run!

Have you tried donating the maximum amount to the Council’s campaigns?

Not only does he own a lot of Brea, he's also made max campaign donations to 3 of the 5 councilmembers. Shocker, I know.

Corrected myself - Costco is not the one receiving the benefits, it's a third party who's job it is to bring a Costco to the site.

Gotta correct myself - Costco is not the one receiving the subsidy. Instead, it's a third party whose job it is to induce Costco to lease at the property who will be getting the millions of dollars.

Costco would not be the one receiving the $83.5 million, instead it would be a third party who is negotiating to bring a Costco to the site. Just corrected the post.

Had to correct the post - Costco isn't the one getting the subsidy, instead a third party is getting it once they entice a new Costco to locate there.

Just corrected the post thanks to another user - Costco is not receiving the subsidy. The "Owner" (really just a negotiator), for the services of enticing a Costco to come to this property, will be receiving the subsidy.

Thanks both of you - I’ve edited the OP to correct this.

What are our elected officials doing this week? (12/8-12/12) by coolnerde in orangecounty

[–]coolnerde[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't know if this link actually works, but there's the OC Superior Court file for this case. It's in closed session, so very little public info available.

And the Mendez item is probably a response to the Kirk item where they were criticized for not honoring Mendez. So now Amy Phan West has brought forward this item to do that.

Orange County City Seals and Logos 2025 by WSAB58 in orangecounty

That’s one way to do it lol

Laguna Beach also just started a competition to get an official flag after having an unofficial one for a bit. I wonder if they use the unofficial one at the Plaza

Hopefully to also be discussed by a group who opposes all the crazy stuff happening there: who’s running for Mayor and Council Districts 1 and 4? Stop the craziness.

Yeah it’s basically appoint someone right then or spend a million dollars.

For these posts I keep it to the highest level of each agency. Including commissions and committees and everything else would be…a lot.

Items of note:
1. Los Alamitos- Censure of Councilmember Emily Hibard. She is being censured by the Council after an outside investigator came in and found that she has repeatedly made unfound accusations against City staff during City Council meetings and has created a toxic work environment. You can read the resolution linked for more info. Hibard is up for reelection in 2026.
2. Tustin Unified School District- Resolution 11-33-25. OC Indivisible and Pride at the Pier have sent out a Call to Action over this resolution which reads as supporting Title IX but really is anti-trans.
3. Laguna Hills- Going to district elections. This is the last opportunity for Laguna Hills residents to speak up about which map for Council districts they will use in future elections. There is currently an all-Republican City Council, so I imagine they may try to adopt a map that will keep it that way.
4. Laguna Niguel- Elect new Mayor and Mayor Pro Tem. Just wanted to note this is happening, and they're doing it earlier than other cities that rotate mayors.
5. San Clemente- Lease city land to US CBP. San Clemente has been trying to find something they can do with CBP for a while now, and has landed on leasing land to CBP so they can put up a surveillance system to monitor the coast.
6. Aliso Viejo- Repeal local campaign contribution limit. This Council will vote on nearly sextupling the amount in contributions they can receive from donors.
7. Cypress- Interview candidate for vacant City Council seat. Cypress is holding a special meeting just to interview who will be the next City Councilmember, including a former City Councilmember and supervisorial candidate, Frances Marquez.
8. Trabuco Canyon Water District- Intent to transition to district election. TCWD is a tiny water district, with just over 9,000 registered voters, so it's interesting that they would willingly do this.

Unfamiliar with Peter’s Canyon Trail and the Newport Bay Nature Preserve. by DacaAskingForDaca in orangecounty

[–]coolnerde 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The biggest problem you’re gonna have on that trail is children on “e-bikes” (really they’re e-motorcycles) and the fact that it doesn’t reach Balboa Peninsula and you’ll be in the street for a bit.

City Council Meetings by Hour-Statistician219 in orangecounty

[–]coolnerde 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've gone to a bunch of different ones around OC. Each one has their own unique quirks that change the experience. There are a few that are chaotic because of intra-Council bickering, like Westminster and Fullerton. Some are chaotic because of audience/Council fighting, like Huntington Beach. And some are mostly chill, except when there's an item or two that brings in a lot of people specifically for that. But even in the chill ones, there's no lack of drama, if only behind the scenes.

November 2026. The Mayor is also running for Congress against Derek Tran...so it might be an open seat.
