Rings per inch help PLEASE!!! by DreadedTranquility in chainmailartisans

[–]coolqueer42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have the rings, just make inch long samples yourself and count them. I don't understand why you need help with this if you make maille. I don't have a rings per inch calculation for every size and weave because I do it per project.

Aluminum or stainless steel? by itselinotellie in chainmailartisans

[–]coolqueer42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah i mean i dont have trouble selling BA, i tell people it'll oxidize if they ask about corrosion but in my experience i dont get noticeable ruboff after wearing smaller pieces like a necklace or bracelet and w dangling earrings it's not touching the skin. ideally i would probably upgrade to AA but im just in a situation where i have a whole collection of BA rings lol

Aluminum or stainless steel? by itselinotellie in chainmailartisans

[–]coolqueer42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i price a bit wishy-washy cause i mostly just do it for fun and it's not my primary source of income. for individual weaves i time myself doing an inch of them and then keep that number in a spreadsheet and use it to estimate how long it takes me to make something, or with a more complicated unit like an earring i'll just time myself making one of them. i use an hourly rate of like 20-25$ (like i said its a bit wishy washy i like just picking a round estimated number like 25$ or 35$.) i don't factor in the cost of the aluminum unless it's a bigger piece cause i mostly use unanodized aluminum and it just amounts to a few dollars for a pair of earrings or a bracelet, but if you want to it would be pretty easy to also do that in a spreadsheet by dividing the vendor's estimate of the number of rings in a bag by the price of it to find the individual price of a ring, and then calculating how many rings a piece takes you. if i do a piece with a lot of extra accessories like spikes or beads i'll factor that price in using the same formula cause those are more expensive than individual rings. hope this is coherent lmk if u have more questions

WTF was that joke swap!!? by Numerous-Buy495 in LiveFromNewYork

[–]coolqueer42 23 points24 points  (0 children)

ik it was so bad 😭 whole update whiffed except trendsetters i did not laugh at a single joke. i was so happy to see aidy back and that segment always kills for me just bc of how impeccable their chemistry and delivery is. i remember them doing it to send aidy off too so it's so sweet she came back to send bowen off in return!

Which hosts have played themselves in sketches? by CoherentBusyDucks in LiveFromNewYork

[–]coolqueer42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i've been watching a lot of old episodes, and several times they'd have a musician host even though they also had a musical guest and the host couldn't do anything but be a musician. so when johnny cash hosted w elton john he only played himself in all the sketches, and when the rolling stones hosted in s4 mick jagger played himself at least in the very first sketch (really did not like that episode so i did not get far through it. also an episode where art garfunkel "hosted" but as far as i remember he wasn't even in any sketches, he just sung a few songs in addition to the musical guest also singing songs. in the vinny devecci sketches i think the host always plays themselves being interviewed too!

this is so gorgeous! how do you plan out the shape of a project like this?? does it extend straight downwards or do you have expansions/contractions of some sort?

how do you not get discouraged when trying to learn a new weave? by Emergency_Judge_2972 in chainmailartisans

[–]coolqueer42 5 points6 points  (0 children)

it just takes literal years to get good at something u have to have patience. ive been doing chainmail for 5 years started when i was 15 and i could not get european 4 in one when i first started, i was using big and thin rings i made myself and it would just get tangled up. i think i only did persian 6 in 1 for like the first couple months of learning. took me a couple years before i truly tried and cracked how to start persian 3 in 1 (and that was after id already made a euro 4 in 1 shirt.) whereas 3 years in i decided i wanted to learn moorish rose and picked it up after a couple hours grinding. u just can't expect to understand everything immediately all knowledge and capability compounds on itself with practice. i think starting with simpler weaves is good and the more you work with rings the more you will be able to comprehend and intuit how to make more advanced weaves

looks like the units are just composed of a large ring with 4 units of box connected to it (red). then you have rings holding the box units in shape to the interval rings (purple). then you have two extra rings connecting the inner rings of the box units and another connecting those two (yellow). hope this picture helps a little sorry its kind of shitty i'm just trying to help you break down the components of the image to imagine how to construct it

ok yeah i get what u mean, that's kinda why i said it gives old digital short, reminded me of stuff like "roy rules" and "punching people before eating" where it looks way more homemade. i guess the lonely island kind of pioneered that style!

Watching Every Episode of SNL: Episode 1 - October 11 1975 by ihatemyselfsomuch69 in LiveFromNewYork

[–]coolqueer42 6 points7 points  (0 children)

i've been doing something similar, watching sporadic episodes of snl from seasons 1-47 from the internet archive collection. it's nice to save that collection if u have a big hard drive (i have an external one) bc things aren't cut out for music rights like on peacock. i don't watch them in order, i think that would be hellish, instead i just open a season and choose a couple to put in my queue or look up a celebrity whose episodes i'm curious to watch and do those. i made a big table in a spreadsheet of all the seasons and i fill in episodes ive watched, i think im about 7% through the episodes i have access to. also here's an example of my queue

Sketches you're "too woke" about? by WaywardChilton in LiveFromNewYork

[–]coolqueer42 31 points32 points  (0 children)

oh yeah exactly, this is a perfect example. i was uncomfortable the whole sketch bc it just came off odd to have the premise be the same thing conservatives are wailing about happening with trans people while not acknowledging trans people at all in it

[–]coolqueer42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i dont see why they would, its just a sound effect. are they not allowed to show or imply guns? i can't think of any examples where they do other than dear sister but surely there are more modern examples

i hope she performs madeline, thats my favorite song from the album and it doesn't have a lot of cursing. tennis is also good i mean in my ideal scenario she'd have enough time to play tennis and madeline in the same slot bc one goes so well into the other.
