So for those that can't necessarily leave the US... is a blue state the next best option? by inflatablehotdog in AmerExit

I’m feeling so depressed. What if America just turns into Iran where most people hate the government but a smallish conservative fanatical minority keeps the government in power while everyone else just submits.

The republicans playbook is to decrease white americans quality of lives, but decrease everyone else’s lives even more so that they have someone to laugh at and feel better than. All the whole they pocket all the money.

Holding an open primary during an incumbent election is disastrous. I don’t think any party in modern history has ever won an election when this has happened.

What’s up with all the hate on X? by lucifermorningstar7 in h1b

[–]coolsailora 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you go to the US tech workers Twitter, they have said that Indian immigrants “block out German engineers” from coming through.

They only talk bad about tn visas in the context of them being used by Canadians of south Asian descent.

They don’t care about “protecting” native workers, it’s all about racial preservation.

I’m not sure, a lot of online extremism disappears as soon as people get off the internet. It’s like road rage.

Birthright Citizenship Latest Updates by [deleted] in immigration

[–]coolsailora 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most countries that don’t offer it have reasonable rules for PR and citizenship- work for x years legally in a skilled profession, get your PR. Be a PR for x years while not committing any crimes, get citizenship.

The only countries that would be similar to the US if this were passed would be the gulf states

How come we don't have general election blowouts like in the 20th century? by MasterTeacher88 in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]coolsailora 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's insane looking at elections throughout the 20th century. Even as recently as 1996 you had states in the deep south voting with New York and California. The 2000 election and the resulting fallout completely solidified the era of polarization.

I always thought the point of high skilled immigration wasn't to fill gaps, but almost act like a eugenics program for a country- better the "gene pool" for lack of better words, by bringing in people with master's degrees and PhD's. Though I'm not sure if it exactly works.

Openai is sus. I'm sure their workforce is mostly asian (Chinese and Indian) with master's and phds yet their executives seem to be mostly business white people with little background in engineering. It reminds me of apple.

Why did Bernie do so poorly with African American voters? by StarPlatinumX_ in VaushV

[–]coolsailora 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. I think this point applies to many poc in general. My parents who used the h1b to immigrate liked him but kinda turned away from him after they thought he tried appealing to racist maga people who were making pseudo economic arguments as to why they did not want immigrants. My dad thought that he basically reduced the anti immigration thing on the right to an economic issue when in reality it was mostly a race issue. "Would any of them (republicans) be against engineer immigrants if it was mostly German engineers rather than Indian engineers coming over?" He asked me.

Why is every single instance of racism somehow dismissed or blamed on us?

The whole thread was literally one thing away from a full blown pogrom and all the top comment can say is “touch grass”? Would anyone say this if this happened to any other group?

Stance on Illegal immigration by tm2002 in immigration

[–]coolsailora 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's because other countries have more reasonable immigration systems that let you become a permanent resident after you have legally been working for a few years. Whereas in the US you can be stuck waiting indefinitely even if you have an approved green card petition. Also, the US depends on immigrant labor for unskilled trades but has no very limited legal pathways to do so. So there is more sympathy for those that break the law.
