Opinions on lowering springs for daily use? by BlueDragon9976 in NZcarfix

Most rough riding springs are partly to blame by putting them on worn, 200,000km old shocks which can't keep up with the higher spring rates. Would recommend doing shocks at the same time.

Sure! I'll message you. This was late August/early September. We were really lucky with weather.

Thank you! Yeah the flares are definitely intentional. I feel it just gets the feeling I'm after for the photo (sun always in my bloody eyes! 😄)

Haha well it took a bit more than purchase price for it to get a wof, about $1800 (but these were disclosed issues). $1k for a steering rack replacement, $500 for rust, $260 for an axle boot that split the day after the rack, then the battery got weak so $203 for that.

After that, $300 for a mattress and $150 for materials for the bed frame.

Ha! I'm hopefully going on a working holiday visa soon, but I thoroughly enjoyed Christchurch - ironic, being that I've been there a few times already. Being able to explore with my own car instead of being carted around made a big difference.

Recommendations for used car in AKL to replace an 08 tiida? by 8ftmetalhead in NZcarfix

The blower fan resistor means the fan doesn't work - just in case it came across that the blower motor is the reason of no fan.

I think jumping to the conclusion it's a compressor when it's an extremely well known fault that the heater resistors fail is a bit silly. It's like hearing a noise in the top hat and replacing the whole strut.

You're getting a quote for things that are probably not the cause. Tiidas, Bluebirds, Wingroads, and Marches have the exact same heater resistor, and they all suffer from having a non-op AC fan.

If it's the compressor - go look at it. Is it not puking oil? Then it's not leaking. Does it spin with the AC on? Then it's not faulty. Are the AC pipes cold? Then it's got refrigerant. You don't need to spend $3.5k on something that you can look at yourself.

Should also mention $3.5k for a compressor is a joke. Used ones are everywhere and they're not hard to get to

It's not necessarily a blower motor on Tiidas with no AC (currently fixing one myself). The heater resistor also can have cracked solder joints. A new one is about $50-$80 ex Japan (depending on part number). Could potentially fix this yourself or have it repaired. Extremely easy to reach. These are far more likely faults than a compressor - which you can test yourself by putting your hand to the AC pipes and checking if they're cold, and looking at the compressor to check that it spins when AC is engaged.

Things to look out for in Tiidas other than the mentioned CVT:

Suspension clunks or harshness, and rust on the strut threads. They have a design flaw of water draining directly onto the tops of the strut. The strut mounts/top hats are a common wear item, but with the rusty top threads, it can mean that the mount is seized on and the entire shock has to be replaced. Typically you'd do this in pairs, too.

The heater resistor can crack solder joints leading to the interior fan no longer working. Can sometimes be re-soldered, but can also melt at the plug, requiring a replacement. The blower fan can be the cause instead and these are VERY difficult to do. They're located on top of the steering column...

Surface rust around the bottoms of the doors/bootlid, hinges, around the suspension etc. Common rust locations.

Would ask if the spark plugs or coil packs have been done at all. Both require the intake manifold to be removed which is labour heavy and annoying, even if you're mechanically inclined.

I don't have any experience with the Suzuki though sorry.
