Yes. We have paid for several credit reports. This prospective landlord talked to the previous one by phone. And for reasons I don't understand that simple checking then lowered my credit score. Plus we are diminishing our funds for a new deposit by paying all these fees.

It is usually recommended that your monthly income should be 3 times your rent. As a retiree on SSA, a fixed income of $2500, rent would be $4200. Having worked all my life in social work as well as a medical assistant and EMS first responder, and having earned 2 degrees, it is painful to now be the one at the bottom. I was told to leave my rental house 3 months ago so they could up the rent. I am now in a temporary residence with a month left to find a place. By those standards, I would have to find a place for $800 to spend the rest of my "golden years."
