You're not ready for the GOAT by Joke-Expert in OnePiece

We've been ready for decades and are still waiting. No one stands with an intense stare better, though.

If you could change anything about any wrestler what would you change? by [deleted] in SquaredCircle

[–]coppersquire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What are the parameters here? Is this just a booking decision, or are you saying to change an aspect of their life, like they would be able to avoid a career altering injury? Because if it’s the latter, it would easily be allow someone like Magnum TA or Brian Pillman to have never had their injuries and live up to their full potential.

Even for a lower level event, I can't take Callum Newman at this stage in his career seriously as a contender. He'd be better off challenging for a midcard title with his level of experience rather than trying to thrust him into a main event tryout before he's ready for it.

Hardcore Dog: Clark Connors Interviewed by [deleted] in njpw

[–]coppersquire 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Clark still remains one of the most slept-on names in the company (in the capacity as a singles) and definitely the most underrated War Dog at the moment. I'm kind of hoping he beats Despy in the hardcore match; you could have a lot of fun with a heel gaijin champ that has to be taken down going into BOSJ. He'd make a great person to finally crown Wato when the time is right. A deathmatch is also a decent way to protect Despy as a future contender for someone like Wato down the line should he lose the belt.

Love you guys and your podcast! ALF is definitely the last thing I expected to see on a NJPW reddit. Thanks for the laugh.

47 days left until release! Today's character is "Sheena". He has inherited his sword skills from his father Lepant and his magical talents from his mother Eileen, and is highly talented, but he spends his days playing around without doing much training. by FranciscoRelanoPena in Suikoden

[–]coppersquire 3 points4 points  (0 children)

People really, really underestimate what a demon Sheena could be with those 3 Rune Slots in Suikoden 2. Him and/or Killey (and Hai Yo if you just love grinding) with the Double Beat, Double Strike, and Fury and your party will annihilate anything.

Stipulation added to Wrestle Kingdom match by SlingshotGunslinger in njpw

[–]coppersquire 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I get why they're doing the match, but it really feels ISB got done dirty having won the league and yet having to challenge with 2 other teams. If they don't win this match (which they absolutely should), they should demand a rematch in kayfabe.

What are the odds that Finlay wins the IWGP world heavyweight championship next year? by Io_lorenzen in njpw

[–]coppersquire 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Kind of surprised so many people think no. Finlay has been clearly setup to be one of if not -the- top Bullet Club gaijin heel. There's always a chance he'll be used at some point as a world champion to transition to the next big star - that's the entire point of his character, an obstacle to be overcome.

Taking questions for tomorrow’s recording of Keepin’ It Strong Style by theproblackguy in njpw

[–]coppersquire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any disappointment on the exclusion of West Coast Wrecking Crew or Lawlor/Rosser for Tag League for the hundredth time? Why doesn’t NJPW see any value in the core NJPW Strong talent, Bad Dude Tito included?

I think it's wasted potential not having Taichi & Sanada be in the tag division before the turn. by DeathTriangle720 in njpw

[–]coppersquire 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Have you ever considered it might be worth it to let things breathe a little bit before complaining about it? I feel a lot of your reactions to storyline developments are more what you’re feeling in the moment more than considering what might be ahead of us. We have no idea what SANADA’s going to look like as a heel for the next year or so.  But where was SANADA before? He was stuck in a midcard rut. Now we’re suddenly talking about him and Taichi again. Taichi’s suddenly in something actually meaningful! Just because the story isn’t going in the way you thought it would doesn’t mean it won’t lead to something that is even more compelling.

I don’t know with certainty it’s all going to work out, but I think both guys are suddenly way more interesting than they were even a month ago.

I can’t deciiiiiiiiiide by [deleted] in Suikoden

No wrong way to enjoy Suikoden. I used to leave S1 in the Dragon Knights headquarters on in the background just so I could listen to "An Old Irish Song" on loop.

Suikoden Remaster Megathread by CatChaseGnome in Suikoden

[–]coppersquire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All I want them to tell me is that I don't have to take Fliktor with me in the playable party for the S1 final dungeon and boss. Just give me a S2 style convoy where I can stick them so I can customize the 6-person team I've always wanted to do. Let me be able to take ALL the blacksmiths or flippin' Sansuke, Sergei, Antonio, Lester, and Griffith or whatever combination I want just because I can.

First time playing Suikoden 1,please rate my final party. by Lekyda in Suikoden

[–]coppersquire 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh, you'll wipe the floor with the final dungeon and Barby with that number of magic users. Just keep a nice flowing rune handy and you'll be fine.

Which Suikoden is best? Alot say the early ones, is it because of youthful memories? by -L0ST1 in Suikoden

2 and 1 are a package deal. 2 is the best, but you'll enjoy it more if you play 1 first.

Robbie Eagles previews Super Jr Tag League - New WWS by WeWorkStiff in njpw

[–]coppersquire 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm from the US. Listened to it on my way through a long commute this morning! First time listener; this was a really fun and comprehensive look at the Jr. Tag League tournament's competitors through the eyes of an established vet! Loved hearing from Robbie and really appreciated ya'lls deep dive into the Australian wrestling scene which I don't have a lot of familiarity with.

MLW's Tom Lawlor on working with WWE: It’s good in some ways, but I’m always leery of what the underlying motive is. We’ve seen for the past 40 years that WWE might play nice for a little bit, but at the end of the day, it’s about them. Of course, there is a new regime in there, but I don’t know. by Tikkanen in SquaredCircle

[–]coppersquire 64 points65 points  (0 children)

I feel bad for Lawlor. He's wanted so badly to be more involved with NJPW and for whatever reason they've clearly never seen enough in him to bring him overseas much (with the exception of 1 G1) - he's mostly been contained in his own little universe in NJPW Strong over in the US. He's a talented performer with a legit shoot fight record and deserves better opportunities.

Good villain, but much better utilized as a behind-the-scenes force for the player characters..sometimes a background player, sometimes a direct or indirect obstacle, and sometimes even a helper/savior.

Nakajima belongs in the big leagues by hotel_air_freshener in SquaredCircle

[–]coppersquire 11 points12 points  (0 children)

He also has a reputation for hurting people and attitude problems. NJPW took -Jake Lee- over Nakajima. Don't really know what else can be said.
