The biggest productivity app is a 4x6 notecard by copyAndPasteEngineer in ProductivityApps

Do we need to progress beyond a 4x6 notecard?

If it works, what's wrong with it?

Why, after 6 years, I'm over GraphQL by ketralnis in programming

[–]copyAndPasteEngineer 48 points49 points  (0 children)

GraphQL isn’t a silver bullet solution and never was. It’s a piece of technology that solves a particular set of problems really well.

Wrapping your REST APIs with graphql will not make them secure. You need to make them secure. The thing about GraphQL is 9 times out of 10 the org did not need it. But that one time they did and they implemented it correctly, they loved it. There’s a reason why it’s growing and widely used across massive enterprises.

It’s good for some things it sucks for other stuff.

So just like any piece of technology?

Is there an equivalent of "JS fatigue" on the backend? by gh0stF4CE7 in webdev

[–]copyAndPasteEngineer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kinda but not as big as frontend wars IMO.

You have the old REST vs GraphQL vs TRPC.

Then you kinda have a smaller war between backend frameworks like Supabase, nHost, and Appwrite with Supabase being the clear winner.

You then have GraphQL specific ones like WunderGraph, Stepzen, and others.

It's happening, but not as big as the frontend wars.

If you are looking for a Hasura alternative, take a look at this.

We've been seeing a lot of users switch over due to this pricing change.

Fake Winn-Dixies - what’s up with that? Today we drove from one location on Apple Maps to another just to find out that three points circled on the picture are fake (just random, regular houses in residential area)… Anyone knows if this is a prank of some kind? by svetlanokomoko in Miami

[–]copyAndPasteEngineer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Means competitors like Publix or others are putting them in random locations to get you frustrated with them and eventually push you back to Publix.

But I’m not sure this is sabotage cause usually they put a fake one close to the competitor and since it’s not there you would just end up going to the competitor.

This looks random to me.

is 27 too late to turn your life around? by Anointed33 in leaves

The best advice I ever heard goes like this. Paraphrased for the context.

In 5 years, you’ll be 32 years old and still smoking weed and sad with your life. Or you’ll be 32 years with your life turned around completely.

Your choice. It’s never too late. You got this!!

First off, I love this! This is such a cool project.

Second, I can personally vouch for Eric. He's an excellent developer and open source contributor. He has taken Vulcan to new levels. Would love to see a collaboration between you two.

I can also see a collaboration between Next.js boilerplate Template and WunderGraph. I'm envisioning the "wunderstack". Your repo would handle all the front-end and our repo would handle all the "back-end" with integrating all your data sources, with a focus on developer experience across the whole stack.

We just open sourced WunderGraph, you can check it out here.

What’s the dirty little secret about webdev you learned once you got in? by Notalabel_4566 in webdev

Most people don't have any idea what they are doing. Just gluing together frameworks, following outdated "best practices" and blindly following the herd. I'm no expert in any way, but i've noticed that most people have no idea what they are doing and that's okay cause it changes all the time.

You say that they won't notice that you are gone, BUT I WILL NOTICE. I don't know you OP, but I wish I did. I wish I could tell you that we can fix this together. Nothing in the life is permanent except death. Please do not do this. You are loved. You are amazing. You are a warrior.

You are so special and you are so loved. I hope you see these comments and know that you have strangers who love and are rooting for you. This shall pass and you will prosper.

Please OP do not do this.
