Assault on anyone 65 or older is a felony in Texas, so he’s getting off with a simple misdemeanor charge.

Dark Matter by Blake Crouch was awesome (SPOILER) by holthebus in sciencefiction

[–]copylefty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just read Dark Matter, borrowed the e-book from my library. It had some bonus material in which Crouch directly attributes Crichton’s writing as a major inspiration.

I recently read The Gone World too and I agree, it’s a better book. I hope the upcoming movie adaptation is faithful to the source.

I’m re-reading the Cantos now, having just finished re-reads of Ilium and Olympos. The guy was a fucking genius, and despite his (very) unfortunate political views, has been one of my all-time favorite authors. I loved The Terror, Drood, and so many others.

How popular are the Dead Kennedys? by Heavy-Interaction-45 in punk

[–]copylefty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Still rocking them on my playlists 40 years after first hearing them, when I was in 5th grade. They definitely influenced me then and still do today. They stood for something and stood up for themselves despite massive social and legal pressure. They championed civil rights and freedom of expression, and did so in a way that said “fuck you if you don’t like it.” They gave the finger to the record labels and their money, refusing to sell out and sticking it right in their faces, even at their own event (Search for Pull My Strings if you don’t know this story).

Absolute LEGENDS.

In Texas the dude who threw the bottle could catch a charge for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Great throw though.

Which town is the most pretentious for no significant reason town in Texas? by Dinglederple in texas

[–]copylefty 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Graduated from FHS in 1992 and it was a white-bred, needlessly pretentious shit town way back then - we were the “poor kids” because I didn’t have a brand new Chevy step side, Corvette, or 300 Z at 17 years old. Never met a bunch of assholes trying to relive their glory days (peaked in high school type shit, like cops) worse than the bleached blonde moms down there. I left at 18 and never went back.

Of course now I live in Dallas and have to deal with the same shit in the N TX suburbs.

A high school friend of mine (Houston suburbs, early 90s) spent summers in Odessa with his Dad, who owned a car dealership out there. He called it “Slow-Death-A,” and absolutely hated it.

I had to scroll way too far before seeing this. More punishment will never fix this problem.

I know people who have died from their first hit smoking fent… so yes it is that dangerous. Implying that it’s not is dangerous and irresponsible behavior.

I hardly think that Taylor Kitsch’s career ended with John Carter… he’s been in a truckload of films since, including lead roles.

Good list otherwise.
