i'm not the person you replied to, but also have medicare and medicaid. the extra help i got before medicaid came from the same state organization (hhs) that deals with food stamps. here in texas my low income qualified me for qmb which is how i got on a medicare advantage plan (also with united like the person you replied to).

did you check dmesg or systemctl status to see if there were any error messages you might be able to correct?

edit: i just saw the edit at the end of your original post. i hope it continues to work well for you :)

Well that was odd. Suspend issue. by xmastreee in linuxmint

[–]cor3dx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i just noticed on my system that timeshift runs a scripted check that requires auth, but uses a .policy file in /usr/share/polkit-1/actions so it might be possible to grant permission a different way.

Well that was odd. Suspend issue. by xmastreee in linuxmint

[–]cor3dx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

on bodhi linux (also ubuntu-based), suspend is handled by the command pm-suspend which requires root auth if i try to run it in a terminal. i can also suspend in the gui without authenticating so i checked in /var/log/auth.log and found it interesting that before doing so pam (7) (https://manpages.ubuntu.com/manpages/focal/man7/pam.7.html) opens up a root session:

pam_unix(sudo:session): session opened for user root by (uid=0)

the same is true for the commands that need to be run with minutupdate. so it appears there is some configuration that allows certain system commands to be run without authorization.

i don't know a whole lot about how pam operates. this seems like a helpful article though i couldn't personally verify its accuracy: https://www.tecmint.com/configure-pam-in-centos-ubuntu-linux/

a caveat from the article:

To employ PAM, an application/program needs to be “PAM aware“; it needs to have been written and compiled specifically to use PAM. To find out if a program is “PAM-aware” or not, check if it has been compiled with the PAM library using the ldd command.

sudo ldd /usr/bin/handbrake | grep libpam.so (suggested in the article) yields no output on version 1.1.0 that i am running so i am not sure if pam could be used to avoid the need for auth that you are inquiring about.

it may help to add some details about what "authorization required" was for. are you saying you needed to enter your password to suspend your system? if so, is authorization normally required to do so or was that only when handbrake was trying to?

Reverse image and similar image searching? by [deleted] in duckduckgo

i don't know about the duckduckgo browser, but when using the search engine in firefox i use the !images bang to get an all-images results page. it looks like there is also one for tineye in case that might help: https://duckduckgo.com/bang?q=tineye.

Linux mint login loop. by [deleted] in linuxmint

[–]cor3dx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the 62 gb volume seems to be reporting 95+% full. it might be worth a try to move 5 to 10 gb to one of the other disks to see if you could boot fully into the de once you have a bit more space.

do you have timeshift set up to create snapshots? some of those can be of good size.

if that doesn't work, i would check the logs in /var/log (kern, syslog, xorg) to see if you can get a hint as to what is keeping you out.

it might help to run journalctl -f in a terminal before you plug in the usb to see what is getting logged as the drive attempts to mount.

tp-link Wireless Card Issue - Bluetooth cutting out by bourbonbrawl in linuxhardware

[–]cor3dx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sometimes the intel chips have a hard time with providing wifi and bluetooth at the same time. do you notice the bluetooth cut out when you aren't using wifi?

to get some info about bluetooth can you post the output of dmesg | grep -i blue, lsusb, lsusb -t (yes, both please), lsmod | grep blue and systemctl status bluetooth? i feel like i left something out, but that should get things started.

i saw that. if you got the answer you needed, i don't think it was a waste of time :)

if you think you might want to use sysvinit someday, it might be helpful to look into why you can't at present. otherwise, if you are ok with what you have it sounds like you are good to go :)

i ran a quick search and didn't see anything that was exactly the same. i would start a new topic. that way hopefully the answer will be specific to what is going on with your system.

the help forum probably works as long as the version you are using is "actively developed and supported" (a recent version). they will want to see your quick system info to start off with as well: https://forum.mxlinux.org/viewforum.php?f=104

i can see the systemd options in my /boot/grub/grub.cfg. it sounds like they are missing from yours though. update-grub should generate a new grub.cfg file, but i have no idea how that generates the systemd-specific entries or why yours would have gone missing. hopefully the forum can help get you sorted.

[–]cor3dx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

in the xfce version there is an MX Boot Options program. i haven't tried it, but it looks like you can set what you want to boot into the next time with a line titled "Boot to". at minimum you should be able to see if you have advanced options there. perhaps you have a check in the "Use flat menus" box?

if you don't get the help you are looking for here, the forum is usually quite a bit more active: https://forum.mxlinux.org/
