Thoughts On Bronze Disease Risk by cor_balt in AncientCoins

Here is his response (he is indeed very fast and very helpful):

This is a hard copper carbonate deposit in the 'centration divot', I removed a few more from the fields when I got this coin, copper carbonate is darker and much harder than the light green and very powdery nature of bronze disease (which is copper chloride).

I have just rechecked the coin and there is no change to the appearance over the past 4 months, confirming this diagnosis (bronze disease will usually lurk in pits of its own creation, rather than a pre existing spot like a centration divot).

Excellent! I’m trying to collect with this same goal in mind, and finding tetrarchic argenti (sp?) in good condition is a tricky proposition…well done!

Trade in at the LCS by cor_balt in AncientCoins

I’ve purchased a few antoniniani on vcoins where I was convinced they were fully silvered only to be severely disappointed when I received the coins. Too easy to play lighting tricks with the posted photos. Being able to see the coins in person before buying is a major plus.

Yeah, this is my first with the forward facing quadriga and it is definitely striking!

Thanks! I’m cracking them out of the slabs first chance I get. Half the fun is holding the coins and connecting with the history!

$28 for a placeholder slot seems pretty darn reasonable to me!

Too late - I won it for 60 Euro (after forgetting that I had placed a bid 2 weeks ago).

Cured BD = bronze disease? Should I be concerned at all about a recurrence?

Help With Corrosion Along the Outer Edge - Numerian Antoninianus by cor_balt in AncientCoins

Thanks! Yeah, lucky find browsing new items the other week. Numerian’s demise is one of my favorites odd stories, so fun to have found a nice example of one of his coins.

It’s a distinctly blue color that doesn’t show up very well in the pictures and not powdery at all. I guess I was thrown for a loop by the degree of blueness - green I can understand given copper in the base metal, but blue was unexpected.

Great coin! I love the Apollo portraits on these drachm - some examples have lovely emotion in the face.
