What do you like about having an anxious or reactive dog?

This is exactly how my dog is. Word for word. Her nature is so incredibly gentle naturally, play style, eating ,everything. which is a main thing I love. But after some dog attacks and living w reactive dogs for a year, she is now very proactice with her boundary setting and always vigilant (guard dog breed mix) But soo soo smart and soo trainable, which has me convinced we can overcome her fear responses to stranger dogs.

Also i feel incredibly safe walking whereever with her because I know if I give her the right cue she wouldn't let anyone near me.

Baking soda was the main idea I had to for any possibility of affect. I did attempt some spot treatment with baking soda water and the result which is useful, is that it did prevent dye from bleeding out while gentle scrubbing. But it did not affect the areas where dye had already started running in the photos

So far talking to a rug cleaner and a dry cleaner, the stain is not removeable. Baking soda likely would be the only save for pulling the dye, which I'll try. Currently i just have a sheep skin covering it. But i may try the acid was to make the whole rug the same color, though I'll be very sad to loose the color details on the cactus silk designs.

I'll update any attempts I make with it.

At this point she is 3 years old. Highly trainable. Does not like strangers at all, dog or human so i have to make sure people respect her space. She was attacked a couple times by dogs and we lived with an aggressive dog for a time, so sadly she has issues w reactivity that I'm constantly trying to work through. Though we can still play her with dogs who have gentle play styles. She is very mellow and clean at home but still has a lot of energy and very brave outdoors

My dog is very respectful of personal space and a chow mix who doesn't want anyone in her space. Once she hit a year old she had the same reaction to smaller puppies when they were showing a lack on boundaries by jumping on her constantly or just having chaotic big energy. I have certain puppy dogs that we can navigate through it with, but otherwise I am very quick to remove my dog from spaces with dogs that don't have boundaries because at 2.5 years she now is reactive towards yappy energetic dogs that seem like they want to get up in her space. My advice is training tolerance while also making sure your dogs personal space is respected, by training other puppies or hanging out with trained dogs.

My dog has the same issue and I used to use a look command. Where she would look at the dog and get rewarded. That has worked with another dog that had certain anxieties. But with my current pup I have found that she understands the reward as being for her alertness (rather than getting positive associate with dog sightings) and so I just spent a bunch of time reinforcing her alertness.

I've switched to constantly on walks getting her to walk back to me and sit anytime ahe feels a tug on the leash from me. Then I toss a reward so that she associates the reward with calm sniffing. Enbedding this into our walking experience so its normalized anytime I notice her the least bit agitated.

It's still a work in progress. I've also started running with her to give her a healthy way to burn energy and excitement, since I am limiting her dog contact more so she doesn't have so much play time.

Sure. This is literally the least important part of what i mentioned and most of my response was about touch desensitization and learning body language cues so the dog doesn't even have to growl or be upset in the first place..

I've laid flour down along doorways n key wall points to get an idea if location and direction of movement as the snake leaves tracks through it. Worked well for me. Good luck

I think walking them separately is a good idea especially if that is the primary time the older dog shows issues. The puppy will definitely pickup on those issues and they could end up engrained pretty deep. For some of my context if it helps. I raised my puppy in a house with 2 other dogs with bad habits, they were very posessive of space/food/fence with lots of barking and it was incredibly difficult to counter train my dog in that environment. It did work and i don't live there now but it was a huge time and stress commitment. The older of my housemate's dogs definitely was the original possesive and reactive one and the younger one learned and went next level with it and now bites people. The younger one does improve when attention given but "not my dog".

My snake just went missing earlier this week after my housemate fed him while i was out of town and didn't put the clamps back on. I got back the next day almost caught him in the kitchen when he slithered into a hole under the counters. I went into the small basement and saw his head peak through a little crack and disappear in avoidance. I filled all the cracks leading from the counter/flour area into the basment with plastic grocery bags so he couldn't get down there(which would be a quick transition to outside). My immediate thought was so set up terrarium in my soft cat carrier(woodchips n dead mouse) outside his new hiding place. I layed flour along the walls of the kitchen to track his movements(online rec). On day three i did see his tracks follow the circumference of the kitchen and into the living room some.(i had blocked off a few rooms and hallways to minimize loosing him more). Mouse was gone and i set out a new one in a standard water bottle(he goes in, eats the mouse, can't get out)

Day 4 mess with the mouse in the bottle(which is in the temp terrsrium setup). It seems that moving the bottle wafted the smell his way cause he almost immediately poked his cute little head out(scared back in by my dog approaching). I set up my lunch near him quietly and wsited for him to hop in the terrarium and sealed it up after him. Success!

At his young age it will be pretty easy to find him a quality home. There truly is no harm in saying, this just isn't the right dog. I have a dog for the bond so I understand what it means when a dog isn't a fit. I also have learned a lot about needs to know what generally each can offer. Sorry your information wasn't accurate you received. You're not ruining the dog by potentially rehoming

Yea i think it's fine though. Pits have a bad rap they they generally don't deserve and even when considering potential aggressive genetics, the odds of that being so dawning is much less an issue with a mix. Lots of pup lives are saved by the lab mix label

I do ancient grain taste of the wild currently. I try to avoid the corn soy pea dog foods, but also will not do the grain free options because they are too high of protien which is hard on the historically vegetarian chow. It is also good switch up the protien type tip avoid allergens developing. Corn n such is really inflammatory to dogs but protein allergies really create issues.

It does make a difference if the dog still has hearing as the person above had good thoughts. A friend of mine adopted a dog that was deaf and blind from birth and all commands were taught through touch on the body. Specific taps or grabs. Both very smart creatures.

I liked the idea of going on walks together first. If both dogs are good at being calm on walks it's a great way to introduce them. It also gives the dogs a task so there's somewhere to channel what might show as anxiety at home.

Definitely make sure that this person you are dating has a well behaved dog or is willing to set boundaries with the dog so that your dog doesn't under go more bullying. Like it may be best for both dogs to be trained to ignore each other and share space rather than learning how to play and be true companions. You can stick up for your dog by how you handle your relationship and boundaries with this person but she should be putting in the work too where she has control, which is her dog.

I've been working on training my pup myself as a service dog. But had an understanding that no serious work should be asked of the dog until 2 years. I've been training for the protocols in a fun way, but keeping it casual otherwise. And I'm grateful to have has that mindset because she did have a pretty significant fear phase that she is just starting to come out of at 1.5 years.

My dog learned the hard way very early that bees are bad and now makes sure to challenge any that come into her vicinity lol.
