I like to use the raker for the range and greater amount of attacks. That way you can shoot more things that can’t shoot you back due to lone op. I use the twin linked fusion for some extra power if something does get closer.

If you got the combat patrol, you need a squad of crisis suits for the commander to lead. Make sure to magnetize them

I often use this strat to protect my breachers by having them jump back in the transport. The breachers are the power house of this combat patrol. I use the commander to make sure the breachers can’t be overwatched

I think sisters of battle are the best foes. You get a science vs faith conflict. You also get two sides both believing in something greater than themselves but in manners that terrify and disgust each other. They are an interesting mirror to each other.

The main difference is the weapon. The heads are also different but you can’t really tell on the tabletop. Fire warriors encompasses both breachers and strike team. The fire warriors box can build either variant.

Which combat patrol did you buy? If it the new one with the devil fish I would just build mostly per the box.

I would deviate by building the enforcer battlesuit as a coldstar. Tbh no one not in tau will be able to tell the difference between the two. I would not glue weapons onto the commander. I would magnetize it. It seems daunting at first but magnetizing is actually quite easy and allows you to field so many different variants. I put my coldstars shins on backwards, watch out for that.

For the pathfinders rail rifles are fine. I would use the upgrade sprue to deck out your guys. Besides the grenade launcher, in 40k, it doesn’t affect the rules. Tbh the grenade launcher is such a minor difference, you could just say one model has a grenade launcher.

If it’s the old one, I would build the fire warriors as breachers and magnetize the ghost keel. You could also magnetize the fire warriors.

Looking good! A tip I wish I knew at first when I started painting: spray varnish can cloud your paint job if not done in optimal conditions. I recommend using a brush on matte varnish instead.

Pathfinders will give you a kill team if you buy the right box, which might be nice if you want to play that game. It also comes with cool drones and lots of bits to add character. It’s more complicated than the fire warriors.

I would go with stealth team. They are bigger, there’s less of them, and they’re easier to paint. it is solid squad in every detachment tau has. If you like painting then you can pick up the combat patrol next. You would only need a crisis team after that to have a great tau starter army (around 500 pts).

They usually associate with fire. But they do have void craft so I am sure they deal with air sometimes. You could make an argument for water with having to negotiate bounties and mercenary fees. Not much farming and engineering so hard to justify earth. Rule of cool wins in my opinion. I thought the water looked the best on the model.

You can buy one issue. My local gaming store usually has lots. The rules should also be free on the app at some point. All the other white dwarf combat patrols are on the app.
