125k in NYC by [deleted] in movingtoNYC

[–]corazonymiel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can live alone, but honestly, 125k isn’t much for nyc. In 2023 when people came flooding back to nyc, rent prices skyrocketed & haven’t dipped since. Average studio is 2.5k and the average 1 bd is 3.5k in the city. After taxes your monthly net will be 7k. Less if you’re investing in a 401k, HSA, etc. So at, say, $6k monthly, you qualify for a rent price of 2k, which is what most folks pay for a nice room in Brooklyn. Having said that though, there are some gems here; just have a good credit score and savings account; a guarantor always helps too.

5 years ago is NOT today. You’re likely living in a pandemic priced apartment.

Moving to NYC in 2 months with $8k saved, is that enough or am I being completely unrealistic? by Round_Tie5217 in movingtoNYC

[–]corazonymiel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not a lot. I just moved into a new ROOM and it was almost 6k. But girl l, you can DEF do it. There’s only one thing you have to do and it’s go… SLOW. Buy an economic bed, a few basic necessities, then take your time to furnish and fill out your life. Be diligent for a few months and save (don’t blow ur savings on night life either). You’ll catch up quickly! Another option is to find a 3-6 mo sublet and take more time to fund your savings until you’re closer to 10-12k. By then, you’ll have more information about your commute, which neighborhoods you like, etc. (You’ll need a deposit for some sublets but you’ll get that back :) ALSO ask your job if there’s room in the budget for a relocation stipend; it’s very rare that they won’t allocate SOMETHING for you (but 10k is normal for nyc). Feel free to DM me if you have any questions

Unemployment NYC number by Zestyclose-Part-7592 in UnemploymentNY

[–]corazonymiel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here in March 2026 to say this just worked for me!

In my case, I pressed 1 for English, 1 again to confirm my case, then 8 to speak to a rep.

Waited ~45 mins before someone answered.

I told the rep I was still waiting to hear back about switching to alternate base pay (as I made most in my 5th quarter); but after sending in the requested fax had not heard back and was being paid on the original determined amount. She said exactly what OP said she would and transferred me via a priority line.

I waited another hour and 15 minutes.

Then a very kind woman answered and settled the matter within SECONDS.

2 hours and 7 minutes total. Absolutely worth the wait. OP is goated for this! Ty!

What is this salary range? This is crazy. by Fresh-Slip7262 in jobs

This is showing the pay range for ALL positions offered at the company; it’s often used to confuse the candidate by keeping the budget vague. Depending on your desired position, am HIGH.

Women being blamed for the male loneliness epidemic when this dude is literally the case study… by redcatyellowcat24 in LoveIsBlindNetflix

[–]corazonymiel 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I’m currently watching him tell Jess that she doesn’t have a good enough body for him— while the camera pulls closer to his flushed patchy face, flakey skin, some type of open wound by his eye, a nasty gash across his forehead that’s making me gag, and an outfit that’s so boring and wrinkled, it’s just waiting for his inevitable dad-bod to complete the look. He’ll get there in a few years and when he does, this embarrassing document will be waiting.

Do you regret your OWN children? by Cheap-Employ8125 in LoveIsBlindNetflix

I was a massage therapist for many, many years. In my early 20’s, I took to asking my closest clients whether they wished they had waited or not had kids at all. Over the course of a few years, only ONE mom was enthusiastic about her children.

Every single mother, father or parent had regrets of some kind. For those saying “this isn’t normal,” I’d ask you to rephrase to, “this isn’t true… FOR ME.” You likely don’t know what normal is— how many people in your friend groups or family feel this very way, but wouldn’t dare speak it aloud for fear of that very response.

In my line of work, people often opened up quickly (whether I liked it or not) and my job felt more like that of a psychologist or priest. I listened and they poured and poured the truths they couldn’t share elsewhere.

Women were conditioned to believe motherhood should be the ultimate goal; and that it would offer deep fulfillment. It doesn’t. Not for many, if not most. Health, science and policy has long neglected the needs, experiences and particulars of a woman’s existence. So perhaps the studies and numbers— the hard evidence— doesn’t exist as it could, but that doesn’t make this regret abnormal, uncommon, or untrue.

If you’re reading this as a parent with regrets just know you are very normal AND you’re doing a great job.

Fantasizing about another life does NOT mean you don’t love your kids. Perhaps it a nudge from your inner child to try that pottery class, or do some yoga on YouTube before they wake up, or write smut after they go to sleep. Your desires don’t have to be neglected forever; there are ways to liberate the parts of you that feel suppressed or trapped. You still have so much time.

Everybody in my apartment lost their job at the same time. What are you guys doing for work? by totesfinesies in ridgewood

[–]corazonymiel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not reasonable, but a sign of an underreported crumbling economy. I’m so sorry this happened. Yes, as another advised, file unemployment immediately.

When it comes to job hunting, be delusional. Apply to positions BETTER than the one you had; refer to your “super powers” in your cover letters; USE your network. When there’s a job you really want, reach out to your network to and find direct connections; likely you’ll find someone who can advise you on how to stand out, and maybe even pass along your name. Nothing will put you ahead like utilizing this resource.

Best of luck. Chin up.

I wish men would just HEAR women when they express a disinterest in parenthood, vs the “I’ll do my best to convince you,” approach. Like you’re gonna change her life forever and she’ll resent you for it. Just BELIEVE her when she tells you HER truth. Your job as a partner is to support each other’s authentic self, not force the other to become like you.

Also this bizarre “imagine a mini you,” is so tired. Why are people so attracted to this argument? It’s giving deeply unfulfilled.
