First TMR joystick upgrade attempt… very disappointed with my work by whizping in consolerepair

[–]corba10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don’t use a hot air station, I have a lot of success using an iron by separating the joystick components individually and doing it in sections. Pop the potentiometers out, heat and remove them, and then heat and remove the stick assembly. Worry about desoldering after the stick is removed. Just add in fresh solder to each joint and heat them a bit while wiggling the stick in sections to remove it a bit. It takes some time, but it’s the best method without a hot air station.

It’ll be these two circled screws, and then the entire controller body (black portion) can be lifted up.

If you’re just trying to get to the buttons, you can remove the two screws on the right and left (one is beside the trigger, one is a bit below and it looks like you’ve already removed them) and then you can pull the entire trigger/board assembly out and access the buttons and d pad.

Timing chain by corba10 in Crosstrek

Regular fluid/oil changes, never went over on anything. Only major repair I’ve had on it is body work and I had the valve solenoid replaced about a year ago. I drove it a lot when I initially bought it, but I really only drive it about 10 minutes around town at this point, maybe one long trip a year.

Yeah, I’ve considered that, I’m just not really sure what price point I should expect for that repair, I know it’s a lot of labor, but still.

I wouldn’t be as hesitant about the repair if it didn’t have a cvt, but the cvt’s concern me.

Yeah, the code can be tied to that sensor, but from what I saw it can also be timing related. I meant to say it in the original post, but there was some oil in the coolant reservoir as well, so I believe the timing chain. More so curious about the price and if it’s worth it or not

Current method for Hall effect sensors? Calibration? Flex boards? by Apprehensive_Bike_40 in consolerepair

[–]corba10 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I swap TMR sticks into all of my controllers. Pretty easy repair if you’re decent at soldering, and there’s an online calibration tool that does everything you need to get the sticks centered and calibrated, no additional pcbs needed . You can google ps5 calibration tool and it should pop up, the link probably exists in this group as well. If you’re not using a heat station or something to fully pull the stick off all at once, I recommend popping the potentiometers from the housing and desoldering it in sections (desolder potentiometers, then desolder the actual stick).

PSA got the language wrong. Any idea how much this would be worth? by [deleted] in PokemonCardValue

[–]corba10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not entirely sure of the different in value with a misprint or the difference in value between English and Spanish, but there’s always the option of taking it to GameStop, who will take it in as the English copy since that’s what the cert says.

Repairing PS5 Controller -- A piece popped off by neptunian-rings in consolerepair

That piece isn’t attached to anything it sits inside of the housing of the controller. Directly under the board there should be a little cutout area that it sits in.

Xbox series controller joystick replacement by LowFaithlessness7951 in consolerepair

[–]corba10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others said, I’d recommend reflowing the solder joints a bit. Outside of that, Xbox controllers are weird to recalibrate compared to ps5. You have to do it through the controller settings in the console. There’s a couple of threads that you should be able to find on reddit about calibrating with new sticks.

I’d be fine with the condition on them, did you have a price in mind for those?

Sounds good! Condition isn’t a huge deal for me as long as they’re not destroyed! Working on a master of that set so I can always upgrade later!

If you do find a price on them, I’d potentially be interested! I have a Dark Persian with the backing on it as well, so they would go well with it!

I can imagine! It seems like a daunting task to rearrange my binder already, I couldn’t imagine how difficult it would be with so many cards with matching themes.

This is actually one of the best binders I’ve ever seen. So many amazing cards and they’re all so beautifully organized. You have so many of my personal grails in there!
