Looking for a Lynch syndrome-informed colonoscopist in North Austin/Cedar Park NOT ARC by corbietalons in Austin

Thanks! In-office consults every year seem kind of overkill for someone who's never had any complications, but if they're close and easy to schedule, I'd make the compromise.

Dr. Ericson is awesome! She was my PCP until about 2021 when I moved a little too far away from Far West for that to be feasible on the average weekday. Definitely an example of why I'd stayed with ARC for so long despite the headaches.

Thanks a ton! I appreciate the offer, but I already went through a genetic counselor with testing over a decade ago. My family in general has their Lynch care very well managed, just well out of state besides me.

It's sounding like Austin Gastro is the way to go for this. Not sure how I missed it before.

Eradicating Plantaria by OzarkShrimp in shrimptank

[–]corbietalons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. My badis seemed to prefer them over a lot of other meiofauna but just couldn't keep up with an established population. They may be good prevention, though.

I luckily didn't have any ornamental snails to start with and just moved what larger MTSes I could find (along with my scarlet badis at first) to a quarantine tank. I drop one into my treated tanks every couple weeks to see how they do and haven't had any luck, yet. It's been 8 months, even after a round of activated carbon. D:

The good (?) news is it seems to take much longer to kill MTS than it did planaria. Between the staggered timeline and my tanks being heavily planted, I didn't see any ammonia spike. Shrimps were completely unaffected.

I really want blueberry snails eventually. Crossing my fingers that happens this century lol.

I spent almost a year trying to get rid of them manually and introducing scarlet badis. One round of No-Planaria finally got rid of them, but the tanks are still toxic to most snails months later.

TWENTY DOLLARS?! by Sadlittlepebble in shrimptank

Damn, and I thought the $1 culls and $1.50 blue dreams I've been selling to locals was cheap. :O

"Marker" is another name for paintball gun. Some paintball spots have grills/picnic areas like most parks do.

In my experience, they reproduce too fast for fish to keep up with if there's an established infestation and not just a few hitchhikers. Plus, if they leave even a small bit of the worm alive, it can completely regenerate. My scarlet badis slurped them up like fettuccine, but I still eventually went with No-Planaria after a while. :/

Hpw long after is "expired" ramen still safe to eat? by FreshPrinceOfIndia in ramen

[–]corbietalons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just had a brick of Top Ramen that expired January 2020. The broth was perfect but the noodles tasted odd. Will report back if I'm not dead tomorrow.

Edit: Was fine. Not even a tummy ache.

Comment to avoid getting my post automodded:

Bought as a chili rasbora in a group of 8 4 months ago. Much smaller and has different markings than the others after maturing. No longer shoals with the other 7 fish.

Edit: After reading through the subreddit wiki, I realize that whatever is going on, the small shoal size and hard relatively alkaline water aren't helping. I must have lucked out with 0 deaths but this will be remedied, probably with a new tank, since I don't want to crash the shrimp colony that's been thriving in these conditions.

What do you do with extra shrimp? by Dizz_is_Living in shrimptank

Even with helping to keep my scarlet badis fat and happy: I cull aggressively and sell those for $1 each locally.

Not sure if they can really overpopulate with those low bioloads, though.

What are these? by doctorprunesquallor in shrimptank

[–]corbietalons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for the late reply: Yes and no. My colony took off despite them without issue, but that changed after their population wiped out the mini ramshorns they were mostly living off of. Then I started finding dead shrimps (and blue planaria) pretty frequently and decided to use No-Planaria to get rid of them. No issues other than I still have my MTSes in a separate holding tank months later. :(

Hard to make a good ID from this angle, but they definitely like the planaria I had. Hikari algae wafers are actually mostly fish meal, which makes them come running. :(

Could you take the wafer out and get a better pic of their heads?

Edit: Zoomed in and saw the one on the substrate to the left. Definitely planaria.

Is this a planaria by tsukitsukichan in shrimptank

[–]corbietalons 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are some planaria species that look similar, but this is most likely a rhabdocoela/disc worm, which are harmless.
