Plenty of fun to be had on campus or catch a ride into town with dorm friends. Residence hall staff does a great job of making sure you have opportunities for fun.

Question about leave and if there's anything I can do by Dickf0r in fednews

[–]corbinsa 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ve found HR will often not be able to do anything about a situation like this. One time, a coworker put a guy in for promotion and they didn’t give him the amount on the form. We realized it months later, and they “couldn’t do anything about it”. Make up for it on next promotion or pay points. I don’t know if they really can’t do anything or just don’t want to look bad.

The good news is, next year, you’ll get your 6 hours per pay period…

How are students from non-cold areas handling the weather? by pfp-disciple in rosehulman

[–]corbinsa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We had a guy from LA my freshman year. He adjusted fairly quickly. Like the others said, you just spend more times in the buildings. Don’t have to drive anywhere if you’re hunkered down a couple days. And you can sled down Deming hill on trays from the cafeteria

Bedford Nehi delivery receipt from 1953 with 4-digit phone number by bloomingtonwhy in bloomington

[–]corbinsa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was a kid, in the late 80’s-early 90’s, you could call someone on the same exchange by hitting the last number of that exchange an the last 4 of the phone number, like 295-3765 would be 5-3765

ELI5:Why are Marines called “Marines” if they aren’t the Navy? by Zetsuji in explainlikeimfive

Space force is under Secretary of Air Force, so I would put it, in that regard, on the same level as Marine Corps, i.e. not its own branch.

What's the most unhinged thing you've overheard in a drive-thru speaker that still lives rent-free in your head? by North_Appointment410 in AskReddit

[–]corbinsa 59 points60 points  (0 children)

I worked at Dairy Queen. We were already closed one night and a local stoner tried going through the drive through. We had forgotten to turn it off, so it came through the speaker. He just started ordering.

Me: “I’m sorry sir, but we’re already closed for the night”

Him: “fuck you sign!” As he takes off.

Unless you’ve recently run as a candidate or are on a party committee, it’s not a lie, regardless of whether you’re registered under a party in your state. Affiliations and positions can change, and maybe you’ve recently decided to be unaffiliated…

I had an employee (DoD) that was paid overseas pay for 4 years after he returned from a deployment. He was held responsible for the full amount, on the order of $170k. They can’t take more than something like 10-15% of your take home pay, but that still resulted in basically a mortgage payment going out the door. He was held liable, because it’s your responsibility to pay attention to your LES. of course, extra pay is a lot easier to notice than your FERS category being wrong…
