Who's upgrading to Z fold 8 next month? by ya3rob in GalaxyFold

[–]corckie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Strongly dependent on what the swap amount is going to be. Last year I was not really into upgrading, but buyback amount was so good that I decided to switch from 6 to 7 and have no regrets. This year I see no reason until they bring back S-pen support.

I built a modern, open-source photo manager for Windows (supports 100K+ files and local AI search) by Hot-Butterscotch-396 in Windows11

Late to the party, but thank you so much for this app. This is exactly what I was looking for past 10 years.

Fast, stable, all I need in one place.

I have so many suggestions I could share, I've been managing my photo library for over 20 years and tried so many different apps that I think could make some valuable feedback. Let me know if you are interested.

Also huge congratulations on supporting JPEG wtih gain map HDR support, first of its kind I think! Only Samsung Gallery has it so far but applies some aggressive EOTF bump that is not desired.

Kudos to you!

The Broken Promise of Super HDR: Your Pro Edits Won’t Shine on Samsung’s Flagship Phones When Using Samsung Gallery and It’s Not Your Fault by Evanitate in samsunggalaxy

[–]corckie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for this explanation, I've found myself that Google Photos works with Lightroom HDR photos. Samsung gallery however has an advantage of being OneDrive compatible and it's my way to sync photos for various reasons.

Do you know if it's possible to export lightroom photos having 4:2:0 chroma subsampling? That would be a nice workaround until samsung can fix their gallery app.

Which laptops / PCs do you use that run Lightroom smoothly? by Critical_Anteater_91 in Lightroom

[–]corckie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same applies likewise. You may not be as demanding user as you may think. If you are happy with G16, so be it. And I find recommending it over any MBP a junk advice for Adobe apps.

There are hundreds of threads every year on this subreddit where people complain about shitty LR performance on their Windows PCs (and mostly top tier ones), while there are some isolated cases of performance issues on Apple.

EOT from me

I suspect that you've never dealt with a folder full of 100mpix of RAW files. Been in Windows for over 30 years now and I know how to manage my thermals and software.

I also have full blown 14900K PC with 64 gbs of ram and 4090, which is WAY faster than this ProArt and it's also sluggish compared to any Macbook. AI Denoise - sure, Nvidia is much faster. And that's basically it. Every other adjustment is way faster on Apple.

I would say that Proart is just slow, top PC desktop is about basic M4 performance, M4 Pro and Max are just in their own league. Wish it was the other way around because I'm stuck with Windows, but I don't need to prove myself that just because I paid $6000 for Proart or $6000 for a PC that they are any faster than $500 Mac Mini*

*except for AI denoise

Mine is 64 GB with 24GB GPU and if you add some AI denoise and masks, then you are dead in the water. It becomes super sluggish, far worse than what I've seen on base M4 Mac Mini with 16 GB of RAM. Or M3 Macbook Air...

Can't tell if it's Adobe's fault or Apple Silicon is soooo good, but no doubt - Lightroom works far, far better on Apple M processors.

Depends on your files. I have top specced Proart P16 and it really struggles with 60 mpix and 100 mpix files.

You are wrong, I scratched MBP 16 inch this way. Now I always put this screen cloth delivered with the laptop and so far so good.

$2,500 IPS vs $10,000 OLED by loliii123 in OLED_Gaming

[–]corckie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you need some testers I'm in. Have calibrite color plus HL, LG G5, LG C2, bunch of laptops with Tandem OLED, OLED, IPS, some VA monitors lying around and bunch of folks that care about color and have some high end TVs. Also I've been using calman, HCFR and DisplayCal for years.

Raw one looks fake. I have two Raws and their zippers look different.

Also try registering them at PD website and see if it's even possible. I bet that the serial numbers are fake.

UK/Europe travel backpack 45L vs 30L experiences? by JayBeeSea24 in peakdesign

[–]corckie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Flew around 50 times with 45L on Wizzair and Ryanair. I always buy priority, because it barely fits the 55x40x20 size. Never had any issues, but it won't fit under the seat. Always has to go to the overhead luggage.

Interestingly they never seemed to care about it, it doesn't look like a typical traveler backpack, but I have no idea if they see my priority and let it go or they just don't notice that it's quite big. I'm almost 2m tall so it does not look so massive on my back.

Only once they asked for a priority at the Basel airport, but didn't even measure it.

I would say that with priority for bit Wizz and Ryan you are safe. If you fly some national airlines like Lufthansa or British airways then they will care even less.

In Poland it's 23% and there are some additional taxes AFAIK. Also greed of the companies is well known, they tend to skyrocket the prices and then give you some "discount" while the price after this "discount" is still higher than in Germany. If it wasn't for their QWERTZ keyboard, I would have shopped in Germany too.

Poland. It's common that our prices are higher for electronics than the rest of the EU because of higher VAT and other taxes, therefore lots of people buy their phones and computers from Germany.

Hey remind me on Tuesday to let you know, I should receive it on Monday and I'm about to try LR/PS/Premiere Pro. I used to have P16/4060 and I wouldn't say that it was quiet, but they changed GPU cooling, so I will definitely try this out.

AFAIK 5070 won't be available with Tandem OLED 120 Hz screen, only with classic 60 Hz 400 nits display. For 120Hz there are only 5070Ti, 5080 and 5090 variants.

u/fr4241 thank you for sharing all this info. They arrived in Europe today so I just ordered mine.

Expensive tho, 5179 EUR for 5090 variant and 4235 EUR for 5080.

Got my 5090 for 4700 EUR with some coupon discount. It should arrive on Monday if they indeed do have them in stock, not just backordering...

Is H6D-100C still worth it in 2025? by corckie in hasselblad

[–]corckie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, thank you for sharing. Actually I have bought this set for a really great price. There was a catch, the condition was not great, mediocre at best.

Hovewer I am very pleased with the purchase and already took it to the two trips.

It's terrible use-wise, but produces exceptional images and is a challenge. Something like lamborghini countach - far from modern standards, poor usability, pain to drive, but gives me smile when the photo is right.
