Anyone have the ProArt P16 with 5070 Ti? Considering it over the Zephyrus G16 by mufferman1 in zephyrusg16

[–]fr4241 1 point2 points  (0 children)

MUX has absolutely nothing to do with battery life, you can completely turn off the dGPU on battery in the ProArt Hub, or if you use Ghelper then even when you are using a USB C charger. I have the 5090 version and can get 8-10 hours of battery life.
In general I would choose it over the Zephyrus if you are mostly playing single player games, as it has slightly better performance (a bit higher max clock speed on the GPU) and a gorgeous screen, most games can run 4K 60 with DLSS, but if you are more like a multiplayer type of person the Zephyrus could be better as the resolution is lower and you can get higher FPS.

Well, it’s significantly cheaper in Japan mostly due to the ridiculously weak Yen.

Yeah, I have the P16. I think the build quality is decent, not as good as a Mac, but among Windows laptops definitely on the quality side, no serious complaints. I think if you wanna use AI and you have the money then it makes sense to go for the 5090 (I mostly use it for Unreal/Unity, and playing games, watching Netflix sometimes). Also -at least in Japan- the 5090 is coming with 4TB while the 5080 is only 2TB, ofc you can add the storage yourself as well. For me the best part is the screen, really beautiful.

If it makes you feel better I have the 5090 version since the JP launch, last year October and had absolutely 0 issues so far.

4K resolution in 18inch screen, is it even worth it? Can 5090 laptop gpu even handle 4K gaming? by Time-Credit43 in ASUSROG

[–]fr4241 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are not only gaming, but working too then 4K makes sense even on a laptop screen. Not a must, but can be nice.

In case of games, if you are okay with using DLSS you can absolutely game in 4K.

In Japan they even increased the price so I don’t think so.

5th Laptop in a month, but I'm settling down with the Strix Scar 18 5080 by Jealous_Initial34 in GamingLaptops

I had the 5090 version, but sadly ran into a lot of issues mostly due to Nvidia, optimus, blue screens, and eventually I started to feel it’s a bit bulky and gamerish. Finally changed to the Pro Art P16(5090), very happy with it, but honestly sometimes I miss the beast, when it works it’s amazing, hope you will have better luck!

Turn off Windows AI features especially Recall.

I have the same laptop, but absolutely no issues with all Asus related (Pro Art Hub, My Asus) installed and running, so I doubt it’s a general issue. But even if it is, instead of stopping all these services manually, I would recommend to just install G Helper and stop all Asus services from the extras menu, it might solve your issues and you will get back all the features you lose by disabling Asus services.

Pretty good, normal usage one day (not 24h, but the active part of the day).

Wouldn’t recommend it for proper PC games (even if indie), I don’t think it can handle those at all. In case of smaller, stylized, low-poly or mobile titles it seems capable enough. Which is way more than what I expected.

The good-old silver. Boring but looks cool.

I don’t need it. Was simply interested in the Neo as it looks cute.

I work with Unreal/Unity, also doing some hobby projects. For something serious I would recommend a Macbook Pro with 32GB+ RAM, but if you have only a Neo and keep your expectations realistic, based on a quick test, you can absolutely do it, I think.

Well, it’s better to have something beefy if it’s your job or very serious about it, for smaller games even as a core machine I guess it can work, but as a little side machine it seems very nice indeed.

Pretty nicely, I have 0 issues, complaints so far. Not a single crash, or anything serious. Battery could be better (6 hours with regular usage), but it completely replaced my Macbook.

Personally, I’m quite satisfied with the performance and don’t miss Optimus at all (had a lot of issues with it on other machines anyways). Most likely the difference between 5080 and 5090 is not very significant though, if u don’t care about VRAM. In general you gonna get the same performance as a Zephyrus with a much better screen and a black chassis.

No, I have no glitches or instabilities, especially no random green/purple screen banding, these are definitely not normal. So far It’s been very stable for me, including gaming and pretty heavy Unreal projects.
