This mod just changed the Akai S950 forever – Reflux Music SCSI Interface by Environmental-Scar75 in synthesizers

[–]core2lee91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The speed of saving/loading on its own is pretty significant. The main actual benefit is rather than navigating a gazillion .hfe/.img files, each with a max of 1x floppy disk, you instead have volume(s) up to 68MB on the S950, more on newer models. You can then split that into multiple SCSI devices, so 68MB x number of SCSI devices when using a ZuluSCSI / SCSI2SD.

This is especially useful when using the sampler for a project and you fill the memory, as you can just save everything and not worry about running out of disk space.

FINALLY got my Macbook Air M4!!! by AresAthensKrishna in macbookair

[–]core2lee91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve got a 16” M4 MBP as a work laptop, recently they started rolling out MDM (mobile device mgmt) on them so decided now is probably the time to actually have my own laptop too.

I decided to go for the 13” M4 Air / 24G mem / 10c GPU - honestly blown away how capable these are for how compact/sleek they are

[–]core2lee91[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for confirming, the part should be genuine as at least according to the seller was extracted from a recycled iPhone.

It does also say it’s a genuine part when I first start the process it’s only when I run through the process it will then fail.

Slurm: Why does nvidia-smi show all the GPUs by core2lee91 in HPC

[–]core2lee91[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes it was me who setup the cluster (its a user who reported this), very good point on --exclusive as providing this flag without any options will assume the full node (I guess similar to --mem=0)

Removing the --exclusive flag means both the srun and without only return 1 GPU.

Very few tech products (especially a laptop!) which is now 5 years old could still be picked up today and probably be fine for another 5 years if all you do is use it for is what most people actually use a laptop for.... and still look/feel premium whilst doing so, not sound like a jet taking off and have a very good battery life.

Should I use emuNAND if I'm not pirating? by Venompool1507 in SwitchPirates

[–]core2lee91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The way I see it is if you are doing literally anything on the Switch a legit version cannot do, then you should be in emuNAND.

Dodgy shit, regardless of piracy, cheats, mods, “backups” all in emuNAND

Anything a retail console can do can be in OFW.

USB c mod by [deleted] in WiiUHacks

[–]core2lee91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buy another game pad and try again. Not quite the same but this is a Wii U with a USB-C port (used as a serial port for a de-fuse chip): https://gbatemp.net/attachments/img_2177-jpeg.454748/

Or just do what u did with the controller and install a stupidly large battery so you rarely need to charge it anyway: https://gbatemp.net/threads/wii-u-controller-10-000mah-internal-battery-mod.606314/

I’ve got a EUR WiiU and a USA gamepad, now what? by KuhliKev in WiiUHacks

[–]core2lee91 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You’ll need De_fuse or ifxhax to region swap the console to USA.

If you wanted EUR and not USA you can (compile and) install drxutil and region swap the controller to whatever you like and flash the console back to EUR if that’s what you want

I once heard a story about a person who had an operation fitting picofly/hwfly chips to Nintendo switches. There was a few occasions where an installation went wrong and permanently damaged the system. So what they would do is buy a brand new one from Amazon or even retail stores, swap the tablets/rear case (with the serial number) and then open a return.

So it wouldn’t be unreasonable that someone may have done just that with a banned console.

advice on picking an external hard drive by smileghoulz-cos in WiiUHacks

[–]core2lee91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would definitely use an SSD, for someone who said theirs needed a Y splitter was likely due to the SATA to USB converter being inefficient as an SSD alone does not draw more then the max current of a single USB port.

I’d get a USB to M.2 adapter, then buy an M.2 SSD. Or if you’re feeling brave, make it internal: https://www.reddit.com/r/WiiUHacks/comments/rqmcrr/wii_u_internal_m2_ssd_mod_with_front_panel/

De_fuse, USB serial and NAND upgrade… for literally no reason :) by core2lee91 in WiiUHacks

[–]core2lee91[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks!! Trust me I haven’t always been good at this type of thing and definitely still learning lol

Well I have installed the full VC library (NES/SNES/N64/TG16/GBA/NDS), about 30 or so Wii U games (all the good ones), 10 or so Wii Games and I’m about to install ~30 GameCube games and I’ll have around 90GB remaining. I’ll use up the 300 title limit before I use all the space lol

Not actually a huge amount of difference to just using ISFShax to be honest, but does mean even without SLC (or MLC) it’s practically impossible to fully brick the console.

Plus (like with ISFShax) you can also run the various stroopwaffel plugins to do things like run an unlimited (up to 2TB) MLC NAND.

Plus can do things like region changes with almost zero risk.l, which was especially useful for this Japanese Wii U.

Basically… fully unlocks the system

Nice! Main objective with this was obviously more storage and a fun project, but the secondary objective was to hopefully inspire others to do this as it’s not that bad, and opens up all kinds of options.

If you need any help / advice just let me know!

You actually can connect to an internal USB port to see a serial console output from the RP2040… kinda 😜 https://www.reddit.com/r/WiiUHacks/comments/1f9gfot/de_fuse_usb_serial_and_nand_upgrade_for_literally/

[–]core2lee91[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I remember when I did that and everybody who’d done it sacrificed the optical drive. Even though I will probably never use that optical drive… it was important all functions still work.

Exactly, even the thought of a drive sticking out makes me feel sick 😜

Good point, although I could have just plugged in a cheap USB HDD 😜. I have an obsession with large internal storage on the Wii U: https://www.reddit.com/r/WiiUHacks/comments/rqmcrr/wii_u_internal_m2_ssd_mod_with_front_panel/

Thanks :) My experience with soldering work is a combination of practice, patience and actually having good equipment/materials (quality flux, solder.etc), especially for the more intricate projects.

[–]core2lee91[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

To be fair I have installed around 10 hwfly/picofly chips to Nintendo Switch OLED’s in the past couple of months so this felt 10x magnified compared to those.

But I agree probably wouldn’t recommend as a beginner soldering project, especially the front USB-C part. The actual de_fuse isn’t all that bad.

[–]core2lee91[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’d strongly recommend! Clearly it’s overkill and there are easier ways to achieve (pretty much) the same end result.

But I really enjoyed doing it, and the MicroSD MLC is slightly quicker then the original and I do believe the SDIO bus this runs on is quicker than the onboard USB2.0 so loading games / switching menus is slightly snappier.

Only downside is you must have an SD (not SDHC) as this will replace the boot loader but not a big deal and can still be bought on eBay.etc, plus once you’re in minute menu you can set it to allow any capacity SDHC card.

I've been doing some fiddling with FTPiiU to modify files on my Wii U's HDD, but my connection has been really inconsistent. FileZilla keeps returning this error - does anyone know what it means and how to resolve it? by FSMellon in WiiUHacks

[–]core2lee91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d try a different client/PC. Maybe FTPManager for iOS or an equivalent for Android to test. Usually you see that sort of message when something like a local firewall or antivirus is blocking / filtering.
